We stayed here for a family holiday in October 2017 and this was my daughters first visit and she has now expressed that we stay at Rydges hotels everywhere we stay. The place is very family friendly, fantastic pool deck, really comfortable beds and really well prepared rooms. The associated restaurant is fantastic too for late night snacks, beautiful breakfasts and a great variety of dinners.
We were here for New Year's eve and it was pretty hectic booking in (which was to be expected). We had a corner suite, which was lovely (as we watched the midnight fireworks from our private balcony). But why was it so much more expensive than usual? I know it is a premium time, but the excess prices (when the hotel was 100% booked out) seemed a little like price gouging to me. That said, staff were friendly and helpful, we got a cute pot of camomile tea with "goodnight" written in chocolate on the plate and a couple of tiny melting moments (which were delicious), with slippers with the turn down service and it really was the MOST AMAZING spot from which to watch the fireworks!!! A once in a lifetime thing to do, I'd say.
Would highly recommend a visit to Rydges Southbank... would give them 10/10 for every aspect of stay... room was spacious and we overlooked Southbank not totally uninterrupted still gr8 tho, restaurants were fully booked by the time we decided where to go however where we did book was 2 mins from Rydges, we also overlooked pool deck, which turned into pool bar/party later in night, we had granddaughter with us and I thought music from pool party would be noisy hardly heard a sound, I looked over balcony at like 7am and wouldn’t have known anything had gone on, clean as and ready for swimmers to enjoy again. Cafe adjoining was inviting and staff very friendly. We did wait for the car next morning and when we checked statement Rydges had refunded car park charges!! When next at Southbank will definitely be staying at Rydges- thank you to all staff made out New Year’s Eve celebrations amazing 🥂
I have stayed twice at this hotel whilst on business to Brisbane (July and October 2017). It was a pretty consistent experience. The check-in and check-out processes are quick and seamless. The rooms are clean, generous, well-appointed and everything works as expected. I always sleep well, too. There isn't too much noise and the bed are comfortable. The location is fantastic. It's easy to get to from the airport, and I typically walk to meetings in the city. It is also easy to get out of the city and to where I need to be for work. There are good restaurants on site but also some good eateries nearby. The only drawback is the parking. It is valet only and therefore slightly expensive/inconvenient. I normally park at the convention centre which is a two minute walk away.
Spend 3 nights here for a conference. King suite was suburb. Room service excellent! Pool area is lovely in the evening for a couple of cheeky beers. Looking at coming back for a long weekend with the family rather then work. But the location is what really won me over. Lagoon area is so close, so may restaurants and bar within 5 min walk. Win win for me
Read reviews that have said looked tired. I’m not sure if we had updated twin room but it was very good. Came in to see Mammi Mia with our 18 year olds. Room had everything we would want and all the staff very friendly. Would definitely return
We stayed in room 526 which is a Superior Room. It was spacious and had a good sized balcony with chairs and tables. Everything was very clean and well presented and it had all the usual things as ell as a large TV and fully stocked mini bar. Its only a couple of minutes walk to Southbank and all the restaurants on Grey and Little Stanley Street. The hotel also has a bar and several restaurants as well as 24-hour room service.
This was my third stay and it was as good as I remembered. The location is perfect if you are going to an event at the convention centre, there is also a great range of restaurants nearby. An approx 25min walk across the river to the Queen St shopping. The room is clean, modern and a super comfy bed.
Visited for a family holiday and NYE. The Good: Our room had a fantastic view of the city from across the river and a balcony - ideal for fireworks. Location is very handy to the brilliant South Bank area of restaurants and family areas. The bedding and pillows were comfortable. Would be quite adequate if travelling for business or as a couple. The Not So Good: -Called ahead to ask when check in time was and was told they guarantee room availability from 2pm. Arrived at 2:30 and room wasn't ready - told to go get some drinks while we wait. Tired infant made that option impossible so we insisted and they radioed housekeeping and room was then ready anyway. -Parking is only valet style which necessitates getting everything out of the car out the front (quite a bit with kids). Unfortunately was told no trolleys available when we arrived as they were all being used to store group luggage which meant some tricky juggling required. Just needed someone to spot the problem and reorganise. -Couple of room minor issues were that there is no latch on the sliding bathroom door which our toddler figured out in two seconds, no towel provided for our child, shower is the type with half a fixed screen not fully enclosed so bathroom floor ends up wet. -Ordered some chips with aioli at the pool bar which arrived with mayonnaise instead. Wasn't told this when it was brought to me, just noticed and questioned it as the server was walking away and was told they'd run out. So the server person knew and just hoped we wouldn't notice. Poor form for $12? chips. Given tomato sauce after asking the question. Realised later they didn't ask if I was a rewards member either so missed out on the discount but will address on check out. Overall I would probably stay again when in town for business by myself but would probably look for another option first when with family.
Absolutely love Rydges Southbank, I have stayed several times and every time is great. Absolutely love the roof top pool bar, really nice to sit around and have lunch. Plenty of gluten free option and staff are very accommodating. Room service is amazing and reception staff are always happy and helpful. I highly recommend Rydges for a weekend away. Can’t wait to come back
