The hotel was excellent, and the staff was very responsive. Air France lost my luggage, and Allison and Audrey called them several times - and finally got the luggage. Everything was excellent at the hotel.
The Novotel is located close to the downtown area, which is where you want to be. There is a shuttle (train) that runs frequently just one block from the Novotel hotel. Takes just 5-10mins. The price is right. The hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly. They offer a buffet breakfast which was good and the selections were plentiful.
I have deliberately delayed posting this review until the Manager at this hotel resolved a very serious problem, but I do have to share my concerns about what happened to us. I accidentally left a birthday present of a chateau wooden plank in a large gift bag carrier bag in our room It was a special birthday gift to celebrate our day in the wineries of St Emillion. I realised this shortly after checking out but as we were already out for the day, I assumed that the cleaners would find the bag and hand it to reception so we would simply collect it later in the day when we returned to collect the rest of our luggage. When we returned to the hotel at apx 1700hrs to collect our luggage, I checked with reception whether my bag had been handed in. She checked with the housekeeper, who said, nothing had been handed in, but that having personally checked with the cleaner, they had confirmed that they found no bag in the room. I was 100% sure that I had left my present in the room so with the receptionist we checked the room, which had obviously been cleaned and my bag was no longer there. I asked reception to check again with housekeeping. This time I was told, that the cleaners were already gone, but the head of housekeeping had personally phoned the cleaner because they had left and again was told 100% that they found nothing in the room. I was so upset that I even went through 2 of their industrial bins to check that my present hadn’t been ‘accidentally’ thrown away. I found nothing and returned to reception. My partner had been waiting in reception and said that he had just seen 3 women (reception confirmed they were cleaners) walking through reception and one of them had our bag from the chateau! Both my partner and I challenged her and she said that she had only put her fruit in the bag but she was unable to explain how she got the bag or what had happened to my special wooden plank from the chateau. My present was gone, but I took the bag off her as proof that it had been stolen from our room. It was also proof that the cleaner was lying when she said that nothing had been found in the room. We asked the hotel to call the police but there weren’t prepared to do so. We had to catch our flight home and so had to leave without a resolution. The receptionist sent an email to the General manager soon after we left and we wrote to him the following day. He responded by saying that he had spoken with the employees who were in the hotel on Sunday and assured us that it was being dealt with in a professional matter. We were told that “ It’s a sadly misunderstanding of my housekeeper who didn’t realize the importance of what she threw away, For her it was just a piece of wood in a bag as we can find frequently in Bordeaux.” I don’t believe this explanation for a second. The cleaner was given 3 separate opportunities to explain what had happened and simply lied by saying she had never found the bag in the first place. The manager has made real efforts to apologise and put this right by buying us another souvenir plank which arrived 2 days ago. But this does not make us for the upset caused by the actions of a thieving cleaner. So my advice is this. Stay at the Ibis next door. Or if you really want to stay here, make sure you lock everything up and don’t leave anything in the room which might “accidentally be thrown away (stolen). Other comments
We stayed a couple of nights in May 2017 and found it to be a typical business hotel, clean and comfortable, with excellent breakfast, all of which added up to good value in my book. What I recall most was the outstanding service and advice received from staff at the reception counter. They were excellent. I'd certainly stay there again if visiting Bordeaux.
This is an acceptable hotel in a city where prices seem high – or maybe it’s the post-Brexit exchange rate. It is about 10 minutes’ walk from the Cathedral and trams are frequent although there are not many restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The rooms are of reasonable size. Good points are excellent lighting, comfortable beds, windows that open. The bathroom (actually shower room) is also well lit with a nice walk-in shower and fluffy towels. There is a fridge with a bottle of water provided each day. The cleaning is good. Less good is the air conditioning, the rather mean tea, coffee and processed milk supplies and the lack of drawers. The small and rather uninviting bar with utilitarian furniture (see photo) does not encourage anyone to spend long there. The dining room is pleasant and there is a terrace where one can eat in fine weather. Breakfast was fairly standard hotel fare. Hot dishes were bacon, small sausages and, it has to be said, excellent scrambled egg. There was also an egg boiler which I have never seen before. It is a pity that the staff, who were willing and helpful, are not better trained. For example, there were either dessert spoons or teaspoons but never both. One day you eat cereal with a teaspoon, the next you stir your coffee with a dessert spoon. On two mornings they forgot to switch on the urn which provides the hot water for tea. Bowls were sometimes put out when dirty. I watched a waiter pick up a “clean” eggcup which still had the remains of egg on it, wipe it ineffectually with his finger and replace it! I was looking forward to having pancakes which had just been put out under the heater; they were literally stone cold as if they had been taken straight from the fridge. I am sorry to appear so critical especially when the staff are so pleasant but these are all elementary faults which could and should be addressed by the management. However it appears that Vincent G. replies only to reviews which are wholly complimentary – or will I be proved wrong?
Clean, well-organised,good breakfast, friendly front desk staff. Looked after 8 Brits very well.Close to tram stop and easy walking to town centre, with an outside terrace/bar that was very pleasant for drinks. Booked taxis etc for us.Good direction from front desk.
It is not a downtown hotel but it is very near to the tram route so you can go easily anywhere in Bordeaux. We stayed for 5 days. The room was clean and comfortable. Bath and bed were OK. Breakfast was served in the room and we love it. The staff was very friendly. Everything in the minibar was free and that was a surprise. The Nespresso machine in the room with new capsules daily was a real plus. Even the dinner in the hotel restaurant was fine when we were too tired to go out. I would return and strongly recommend!
Another night, another hotel. Rooms look good, but air conditioning is very limited. It's too warm to sleep comfortably. I've heard it's an energy conservation measure. If people don't come then they can save a lot of energy. No mold in this shower as in Paris Novotel Centre.
professional business style hotel, not a particularly attractive building on the outside and lacks character but it has everything you would need for short city break. Service is very good and staff are friendly and helpful. Its around 15 minutes walk from the centre of bordeaux. Good rooms and shower. very much substance over style kind of place.
Very friendly and competent welcome, if the room isn't ready they will store your luggage and give you an umbrella if rain is forecast! Location, location, location - less than 15 minutes easy walking to the city centre with some interesting places on the way! Room was very spacious, very quiet, with nice bathroom, toiletries and coffee and tea making facilities and an incredibly comfortable bed. Wifi worked everywhere really well! Didn't have breakfast there, instead went for coffee and croissant in the many breakfast cafes in the centre!
