While staying for +20 years in five star hotels, I have never experienced this. This hotel is in an old historic building yet management/owners have never invested in a soundproof infrastructure. But this doesn’t stop them from organising parties during the weekend with such loud music that the floors and walls two levels high are trembling and which make you feel in your bedroom as if you’re on the dance floor. After having called reception twice and having gone downstairs at 00.15, reception says they’ve asked the dj to keep the music down but to no avail because “they have to keep the party service happy as well”. Extremely poor management to put your reception staff in such a catch 22 situation. The hotel should have great potential but don’t stay there as long as they organise parties, marriages, etc because you won’t be able to sleep. I’m very sorry having stayed here and I will never return here.
The Steigenberger is a wonderfull hotel located in a former building of the government. It's like a palace. The rooms are spacious with a astonishing vieu over the Rine. In the summer you can have dinner on the terrace overlooking the valley and the Rhine. The swimmingpool( indoor) is a bit old , but will be renovated. There is also a greatt parc around the hotel , nice to walk around.
Very helpful staff and excellent english. The room was very comfortable and clean. Sadly the weather didn't give us an good view form the hotel, but otherwise comfortable. There was some noise from the band on Friday night but it stopped early and did not stop us getting to sleep.
Really good service!! The restaurant was excellent. The waiter Mr. Kain was such a sweetheart. 10/10 would recommend. This was not my last visit. The reconstructions are over now and the hotel has never been better. The wellness area is opened again and it’s such a blessing.
The staff, from check-in to dining, was nothing short of fantastic. Very friendly, professional and helpful. The room was spacious, beautiful and gorgeous but for the life of me I couldn't figure out the air conditioning system in the room. Fortunately the temps were more moderate during our stay and sleeping was tolerable with windows open at night, which I don't think would have been possible during the heat wave a few weeks prior. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner with a wonderful view from the outdoor patio of Bill's restaurant. Unfortunately we were somewhat disappointed with our dinner at Bill's since it took 3 hours (not due to any delay in ordering or lingering on our part) and mixed reviews on the food - higher marks for presentation than preparation. I would definitely recommend the hotel for a stay but might advise having dinner elsewhere.
The hotel is nice and with lots of heritage. The walk to the restaurant is long and quiet and because of that a bit unpleasant. It gives you the feeling the hotel is empty. The terrace with view is great and overwhelming. The escalators are very old and noisy.
The hotel was finishing it's renovation at the time we stayed in Königswinter and we had a wonderful renovated room in the north wing looking upon the Rhein. And no noice or other disturbance from the builders. We booked the "Romantic diner" arrangement so when entering the room we were greeted with a bottle of bubbles, a tray of delicious chocolate and a fantastic flower bouquet. From the grounds of the hotel you can start a very nice walk around the hills on which the hotel is located. Breakfast was impeccable so we curiously anticipated our "Romantic diner"... And the quality of the various courses was great, the only letdown was our seating. Of course we didn't expect to have a separate table with violins etc. but we were seated at a high table very close to the bar. Which we found not very romantic and when my wife left the table for a few minutes they promptly delivered the main course, which is not done. Apart from that the staff was very helpfull and friendly. Résumé: great hotel with a wonderful view over the Rhein so do ask for a room with a view on the valley and enjoy the visit.
Very nice stay and staff very friendly. Some facilities are closed because of renovations, like swimming pool, but not big impact. The restaurant is more meat oriented, breakfast is perfect in quality and diversity.
A "Grand Hotel" should be "Excellent", so only "Very Good" is below expectations. Some of the building needs refurbishing. In particular, one lift wasn't working and the other one makes strange noises. It looks like something from the DDR, not the capital of West Germany. Before my arrival I received a long email in German, which I don't understand. I was not warned that I should book in advance to get a table at the Ferdinand Restaurant, so I was relegated to the Grill Room which has only a limited menu. Since the Ferdinand is very small, the menu at the Grill Room really needs to be improved. My room was very comfortable but the Panasonic controls for the air conditioning were incomprehensible and appeared to have little effect. I switched it off and opened the window. Despite these shortcomings, the staff at Reception and in the restaurants were all very friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English, which made my stay more pleasant.
