The reception area in this hotel is pretty nice, it all looks really nice and luxurious. However, don't let this fool you, this hotel has lived well past its expiration date. The rooms are okay quality wise, nothing too elegant and not too shabby, however there is only one setting on the heather on or off. We stayed during December and our room was boiling hot, even when turning the heating off. Furthermore, the paper "do not disturb" sign from our door mysteriously disappeared at the beginning of our stay after housekeeping had visited our room and we never received a new one. The staff seem to have given up on the hotel aswel and aren't even trying to offer any kind of service anymore, don't expect to get any kind of useful information from the information desk. There only seem to be two good things about the hotel, they have a pretty nice swimming pool and a great breakfast. While the breakfast was pretty good, dinner in the hotel restaurant was absolutely horrible! Staff took a long time to take your order (and in general tried to avoid customers) and deliver the food. Food was average on best. Do yourself a favor and take the 15 minute train ride to central Bonn to get dinner. In general I would advise people to avoid this hotel unless they would majorly drop their room prices.
The hotel itself is strange in its design and is fairly old, and the decor is testament to the age. However the patterned carpeting and wallpaper in the rooms can be overlooked since the bathrooms are newly refurbished with modern fittings. The winter months can be fairly warm in the rooms since the heating is centrally set and is usually too high for the mild winters in Bonn. Some of the housekeeping staff tend to be a bit slapdash with their service, not paying attention to the minor details (like dusting). Room service is reliable and the reception staff are helpful. Food quality is good however options are limited particularly if staying there for a while and more so if one has dietary requirements. For the length of time stayed at the hotel (circa 4 weeks), it was far better than other hotels I've used for shorter periods (under a week).
I was on a business trip ‘n had a meeting in Germany. All of a sudden jumped up with hammer noise. I was scared and saw the guy working in front of the windows. Discussed with reception but nothing happened...... Not recommanded
The hotel, while not centrally located, is of a good standard. Comfortable rooms are big with a sofa. It has an impressive entrance,with a swimming pool, sauna and fitness room. My visit which was for one night on 20th November was memorable for the wake up call at 9am on the morning of 21st November. I have stayed in many hotels but never have I been awoken by the deafening roar of a pneumatic drill which appeared to be drilling into concrete above my room on the 5th floor. There was no warning from reception staff and the drilling proceeded on and off (mostly on) for almost 2 1/2 hours. A colleague of mine in a nearby room rang reception and was told simply that there was construction work ongoing. At €150 for one night, I would expect better.
Everything about this Hotel is pretty ghastly. They endlessly apologise when they get bad reviews saying they are learning but in fact do nothing about it. Worst of all they charge extortionate prices because they know there is no other option in this part of Bonn for big conferences. Disgraceful. Downstairs is all bronze and glitz but from then on it is bad news. My room is laughably called a superior. A single cadet bed with a single stained pillow. Floor covered in stains with a light brown carpet that is probably 20 years old. Curtains will not close properly because somebody has broken the slide clips. Nasty bathroom. Shower in bath with a plastic wrap - yuk. Both the shampoo and gel (one inch bottles) already opened and used. Same with the bottle of water by the bed. Lifts never working and no stairs to use as large signs say open in emergency only. Breakfast a disaster. Toaster does not toast after two goes of 4 minutes each. Hot water for tea actually tepid. Asked for Hot water and even more tepid water produced. Scrambled eggs so overcooked and solid if you threw a lump against a wall it would bounce back. Wifi very poor. Weak and inconsistent. Takes ages to open a simple site like BBC.com. Avoid this place if at all possible. As I have said before they get away with it because there is no other option close to the Bonn Government buildings but it is out and out profiteering.
I stayed here for 7 nights in November 2017. I had a room on the 6th floor with plenty of space. Decent bed but no coffee/espresso machine or electric kettle, or complementary bottle of water for that matter. Not many shops/restaurants around but good access to multiple U-Bahn stations by walk. Gym facility has rather limited space and selection of equipment (1 multi-training machine and a few bikes/treadmills, no weights). A bit expensive for the quality of service and facility as I paid EUR212 per night.
I recently visited the 'Maritim Hotel' in Bonn as I was attended FedCon's convention (FearCon) due to company using the hotel as their chosen venue for convenience sake I book a room. From my research into the hotel before booking, everything looked top notch. Expecting to be met by a pleasant and even luxurious hotel was short lived. The almost gothic decadence of the decor depicted seemed to perfectly complement the conventions 'Horror theme'. In all honesty, I was disappointed with the my experience. Although the staff were all very friendly, making the hotel an altogether pleasant place to be, the establishments interiors did not evoke the same feeling as they had done on previously viewing the venue online. Instead of the warm and cosy feel that I had been expecting, was not there instead the hotel just seemed rather dated and I feel that this detracted from the whole experience. I also do not know if the room itself was worth its value. It had an uncomfortable cadet-style bed with a thin pillow and a strange blanket, giving the bedroom a cheap feeling and uncomfortable nights rest. I was also somewhat dismayed by the service we received from the hotel’s housekeeping team. Although my room was cleaned well, the maids evidently moved my personal belongs with a blatant disregard for their value. Again, this is not the service I would expect from a hotel of this calibre with people stating it was a five star establishment . Additionally, I feel as though we live in a world wherein WiFi connectivity has become an amenity for our modern society, so I was also disappointed by the poor quality of this service as it prevented me from being able to properly contact my loved ones and I feel as though this is something that such large establishment in the hospitality and tourism industry should be aware of. The pool really was the saving grace of the entire hotel, offering escape from my overwhelming feeling of disappointment. I am glad that the staff were so friendly and welcoming because this, at least, put my somewhat at ease during my stay. The meal I had in the hotel's restaurant was beautiful. The lady who served us was so lovely, welcoming and understanding that I was from London and did not know any German.
The room's furnitures are outdated and the cleaning is not done properly as the windows are let opened during the day and all the dust from the renovation's work at the balcony level are getting in the room. Also to be noted the noisy renovation work going on and not having been informed when checkin or even in the elevator a small notice would have been appreciated. I have had to call the reception 5 times about the noise before 8am and even though workers didn't stop to wait for an appropriate time to continue their noisy work. I have been very disappointed by this place and informed the "management" in order to improve the same in the future but it looks like it was just a chat for them and no action will be taken.
I stayed here for 9 nights and paid too much money for a very disappointing stay. The hotel seems like luxury with its fancy lobby and high prices, but does nothing to ensure real comfort. Items that are basics in many other hotels in similar price ranges aren't provided: no kettle in the room. There's a pool, but no robe or slippers. The wifi is terrible and only worked reliably if I stood in the bathroom. Shampoo is offered and not very nice shower gel, but no conditioner or body lotion. The light is poor, the carpet is old, shabby and not very clean. I stayed recently in an excellent small hotel in Stockholm, a very expensive city, and for half the price there was coffee and apples in the lobby offered all the time. This hotel in Bonn offers nothing. Impersonal, in need of renovation and over priced. It would be an acceptable basic hotel only if at half the price.
This hotel is the best for huge events for more than 1000 persons. Quite modern and convenient. There is considerable gala hall. But lunch prices are quite high. It's comfortable venue for trade fair.
