Britannia Hotel Birmingham New Street Station

It needs some very serious remodeling. Carpet really needs to be replaced.

It does not rate a 3 star. 2 star perhaps. The hotel must be quite elegant in its prime but is old now. Much of the furnishing needs update but they do try to keep it clean and the housekeeping staff is very friendly. Can say the same for the reception. It is conveniently located just 2 min walk from the train station exit but also very noisy because of the pub activities on the road.

The location is the prime reason. It is within walking distance to the central train station. The hotel is old but reasonably clean. Amenities are not up to par with other 3 star hotels. I was able to access the web in my room though. The food in the restaurant has a reasonable price but choices are few.

it was great location - walking distance everything...clean and quiest...super!!!!!!

I was a little nervous staying at this hotel from the reviews I read. While seeming faint praise, the hotel was better than expected. The hotel looks like a certain type of English provincial hotel. but the location is good, near the rail station and the Bull Ring. My room was very basic but the bed was surprisingly comfortable (not a given in English hotels). I was a little embarrassed what I thought was a blackout was my not turning the fuse on, but, ironically, there WAS a blackout shortly before I checked out. The noise wasn't too bad and I slept well. I would stay again if my purpose (as it was) was a day in Birmingham to sightsee and just needed a place to sleep.

they make me wait for the room when i arrived and when i check out i ask if i could leave my baggage and they were a bit rude and said they didn't have space for that

Great location for the money. I highly recommend if you want to stay near by shopping locations

hotel has a very good location. close to train station and shopping centers

You cannot beat the location of this hotel. It's a few minutes walks to the New Street and Moor Street Train Stations and to many other cites in the Birmingham City Centre. My room was tiny (i have never styed in such a small room) but clean. The staff were helpful. This place was perfect for me as I am not one who spends much time in the hotel while on holiday. For me the value was exceptional.

I have stayed there multiple times. I find it an excellent value with many more positives than negatives. The location is excellent- near the New Street Station and all the shopping. The shower is also excellent- plenty of hot water and strong water flow. Their towels are also good (not thin). The room is clean. It is quiet (try not to face New Street). Their bar area is very comfortable and a good place to relax. The staff is very helpful. The negatives are that the the rooms are a bit shabby and rundown and they are small (common throughout the UK) compared to the US.. Not a problem for a single business traveler.

This hotel is a little worn, a little ragged around the edges, but the staff are friendly and it is in a terrific location. The room was comfortably sized compared to most hotel rooms in GB, and clean. For the price I think one can put up with older carpet and facilities. The staff was very good, very helpful. The price was fantastic for a dowtown hotel, very close to the train, right on New Street and the shopping district.

Spent eleven days at this hotel. Must start with the good points such as the staff being kind and helpful (especially Phil) The location of the hotel can't be beat, very close to New Street train, good shopping and fantastic restaurants. The negative points are the room mattress, after first night asked for a different mattress. New one was delivered ( but quality still not good) Internet service only in lobby and lounge, with a big group of teenagers in hotel. The wifi was very weak, lobby and lounge filled to capacity with very loud teens.

it was really good hotel.nice and clean...with the greatest location in the centre..walking 2 min distance from train statsion - the most important for travellers..reception staf gently, customer oriented..if i'll go another time in birmingham i wouldn't look for another hotels..stay there with the greatest pleasure

I was quite anxious about my stay due to the reviews I had read at various sites, and my expectations were low. However when I reached the hotel,I was surprised as to how I was proven wrong. The staff were friendly and the rooms were practical for my day stay in Birmingham. The hotel is located in the city center and the rail stations were nearby. The place did have an aged look which made it appear that the decor was installed in the 1950's.It certainly smelt odd at various places in the hotel( hallways and lifts). There was no fridge in my room. The only down side was the busker in the street who kept playing music which disturbed my sleep in the early morning. There was also a man who passed water into the middle of the alley way of the hotel in plain sight.Shameless, dirty man!Birmingham city council ought to install free toilets in the city center so that such people don't pass water in public and in the walkways, especially the way he did. Otherwise the hotel was nice, and a Chinese buffet was just across the hotel.I would definitely stay again and I would love to book this hotel for a friend without them knowing what they were getting into. This place is an adventure.

Nice shopping area location and walking distance from train station. Unfortunately at night, the walls would not prevent the noisy from the street (mainly party goers) to come to the rooms. No car noises, except for drunks returning to the hotel. It'll be quiet at around 7:00 am. Had two rooms, one was clean but the other had stained and dirty carpets. I would not choose the hotel again, sorry.

I had to visit a nursing home every day of my seven night stay, so this was not a vacation or a pleasure trip, and as I had got an economy deal I was not expecting luxury business accommodation. Though I could not recommend this hotel to people who expect full-service who are on a vacation, or a serious business trip. I would to people on a tight budget who want good plumbing with lots of hot water (a failing in the UK), clean towels and clean sheets. The bad thing was a musty smell in the corridors (not my room I hasten to add) and the good thing the staff, who make up for the lack of amenities with friendly suggestions and smiles - very nice people.

very good location, easy to access to most places, restaurants, etc. Hotel was smelling, lifts were not working regularly, tap in bath was leaking and nobody was taking care about, room cleaning was not good, wireless internet connection was available only at reception, my room key card was blocked twice without any acceptable reason

This is the first time we based ourselves out of one hotel and just took day trips by car. Easy access to motorways once you figured out their rings. Parking was discounted so not too bad and close by. Had a great time exploring!!

Invited to a friends wedding in Birmingham. This was a package with Orbitz. I had previously picked this hotel separately but then saw it as part of a package. Best deal in town. Half the price online. I arrived early in the morning and was given a room in minutes. When I had a small problem with my first room I was upgraded at no extra charge to a lovely double room with huge picture window that looked over a tree and pedestrian only shopping area that was quiet at night. All transportation and shopping of every kind was around me, including a fun open air food and discount market place. The staff was gracious, helpful and allowed me to use the hotel reception phone in order to contact my friends.
