Bilbao was our last stop on a month long tour of Spain. Loved the city. A HUGE part of what made it wonderful was Hotel Miró. I was disappointed that our view of the Guggenheim was obstructed by construction next door and voiced my concerns. Oncoming manager upgraded our room to a junior suite. Wonderful gesture, much appreciated by weary travelers. Great location....visit, enjoy the Guggenheim, the river walk, the old city, the pintxo experience and the beautiful Basque people.
Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Really friendly staff. The rooms are big with comfy beds. In a great location, you can walk to all major sights..There are cafes and restaurants outside the hotel, but you are so close to Jardines de Albia which is full of bars and restaurants like Cafe Iruna.
I enjoyed staying at this hotel overall. + very kind receptionists + good location close to many Pintxos restaurants, the old city, Bilbao train station + big, clean, and comfortable rooms. +bar open for 24 hours - there is a night club next to the hotel. It is super noisy even in 3am! I couldn't sleep. I had to call the reception. The receptionist kindly offered me a pair of free ear plugs. I think they should make the windows sound proof. It is a pity because I have nothing to complain about this hotel besides this point.
Stayed for a boys weekend ,presently surprised how good the hotel was for the price we paid. Room excellent, bed very comfy.big shower all good. Service in the bar superb prices very reasonable, comfy chairs. Nice position not far from the river and the squares with excellent tapas bars. Lucky to stay in the winter as kept the window closed but it was still a problem as there is a night club on the road to the side of the hotel that seemed to open at 1am and close at 5 or 6 in the morning. Could not hear any music but people in the street were a bit noisy. Would stay again but not in hot weather as like to open a window for fresh air.
This hotel is located behind a pretty tree lined square, just off the main shopping street and 10-15 minutes walk from the airport bus stop and major sights. We arrived around noon and our room was ready, staff were very helpful and spoke good English, we didn't eat breakfast there (bit expensive), but would happily stay there again.
There is a lot to like about this hotel. Check in is easy. The rooms are very big. The bathroom is sizeable and well appointed. The bed is huge. The proximity to the heart of the city is great. On paper, this is a four- or five-star experience. And the rates appear to offer excellent value. So what is there to dislike about it? It is built on top of a nightclub, and the bars across the road stay open very late, with most of their customers hanging about on the pavement. And there is nothing the hotel can do about people making a noise when it's not on hotel property. If the point of renting a hotel room is getting a good night's sleep, this is among the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The party outside went on until well after 3am and somebody has cut corners when soundproofing the bedrooms. Opening the window didn't make the noise any louder! So I fell asleep around 4am ... and the cleaner started vacuuming at 9am. If Mercure goes back to the drawing board and improves the soundproofing, this will be a great hotel, but until then stay well clear of it. Unless, of course, you are planning to be outside partying until 3am yourself
This hotel is really well located and has great restaurants and tourist interests within walking distance. Easy to find and has all you would need for a city break. Good Pinchos and wine choices in the small bar and staff who speak a wide range of languages and are eager to help. Close to bike hire, river cruises, the funicular, the tram, shopping and close to most of what you will see in Bilbao.
Bilbao is a very interesting town and the hotel was well located and well equipped for the visitor. It was walking distance to the Gugenhein, & the fine arts museum. We took a short taxi ride to the Basque museum (excellent) and to the old own. The staff was friendly and helpful with good advice .
This hotel is practically right on top of 2 or 3 nightclubs. It's 1:45am and I've been trying to sleep since 11pm. People are outside screaming, having a great old time and all I want to do is sleep. So much for that. You'd think the hotel staff would take into consideration that guests aren't 18 years old and don't want to hear this all night long.
Although this is a hotel of the Mercure brand, we didn't recognize it as such (well the shampoo bottles were the same). A modern, bright and open interior welcomes you. The building is constructed against the hill and the floors are spread from the lower street via the reception at the third floor up to the seventh floor. They have two entrances to be used if you want to go down to the river or more upscale to the Gran Via shopping area or where the restaurants are. Excellent equipped thus for exploring Bilbao. We were with a travel group and all had rooms with a view to the street. Not the best view of the city, but that is compensated a lot by the interior of the rooms. A spacious and light area. Modern facilities in the room, lots of closet space and a good shower/bathroom. Good and very wide bed with choice of pillows. One remark: the air-conditioning system was already set at heating and we couldn't cool down the room other than opening the window. The streets are relatively quiet in the Bilbao mornings so it didn't interfere with our sleep that much. The breakfast area is in an open area above the lobby. They serve quite a lot of different drinks and food, even fresh made eggs, but at first you are a bit wondering how things work. Some of our group couldn't work out the coffee machine that uses cups, whereas they also have a normal machine a bit hidden away. The tables are a bit small but they continuously clean them. One morning there were three groups at the same time, so they lacked seating space for some ten minutes. But staff is always helpful and friendly. Especially at the bar where there are always pinxtos and people to be found. This is really a good option for spending some nights in Bilbao. Close to all locations you want to visit, closer to public transport or the train station. Though frequented by groups or business men, it doesn't show so. Even couples will have a good time here and you can also use the restaurant and spa that are available inside the building.
