this property is owned and operated by a family who takes great pride and time in their resort. My family and I stayed three night and I enjoyed every minute of it!!Each cabin has a homey feel to them and a fireplace in each. There are plenty of outdoor activities to do,we signed out rackets and sport balls in the front office. My Grand kids and myself felt relaxed and at home here,
We booked a cabin here in the last minute and expected very little from it but in the end, we concluded that this is a great resort. The whole complex is very well thought with many amenities that even in winter you will find them appealing. The hot jacuzzi was still on even though it was snowing outside! That is something!! They accept pets and that is also a big plus. The cabin itself was bigger than we expected, we were only 3 people but the cabin could accommodate easily 6 or more. Fireplace, TV and kitchen appliances, they all worked well and they were very useful during our stay. Just a few things to note: we stayed in cabin 7 (knotty pine?). The kitchen tools and pans were very few and not the most appropriate. The electrical outlets in the kitchen were misplaced, the cords were not long enough, you had to make the coffee on the floor, and so on. There was no basic condiments here, like salt and pepper. Cooking oil would have been nice too, but no such thing. Not enough glasses, if you happen to have full capacity, bring your own cups. Our feeling was that the cabin need a major revisiting, in terms of what needs to be added/fixed. The location is not close to downtown attractions nor to the ski resorts, you have to drive there. In summertime, Boulder Bark proximity is a big plus, but in winter, not many attractions nearby. Overall it was a very good stay, we enjoyed it and we look forward to come back (now that we know what to bring with us).
We had a family reunion last summer at Golden Bear Cottages. It was so wonderful that our entire family decided to return in the winter during the snow season. We booked seven cabins for this weekend and have been holding our breath due to low amounts of snow this winter. Much to the excitement of all of our families it's snowing like crazy this weekend! Once again all of the children are having a fabulous time at Golden Bear! There is plenty of room on Golden Bear's property to sled. Some of the older kids are snow boarding today at the mountain - a real treat for kids from states that never see snow. As for a lot of the adults, they are staying in by the fireplaces, relaxing and having a great time visiting. You just don't get any better than Golden Bear Cottages. Our entire family has already made plans to be back early next summer! We love Golden Bear!!
Our family stayed in their beautiful 5 bedroom two story cabin called Bearberry Manor for the long MLK holiday weekend. We had a fabulous experience. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook and serve our meals (fresh coffee, utensils and dishes, not food), the TempurPedic beds were very warm and so very comfortable. Both of the bathrooms had a large Jacuzzi tub and shower. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the location was close to everything in Big Bear that we wanted to do. We will recommend the owners and clean mountain cabins at Golden Bear Cottages to all our friends and family.
The concept of being in a small cottage enjoying a open fire was amazing. Our family of 17 had a blast at 9k elevation surrounded by nothing but trees and cold air. We were hoping for a white Christmas, but that did not happen this year. Lisa and her staff we very helpful. Our visit started off a bit rough, but they came through at every call to accommodate our stay.
The cabins are well decorated and very clean. They are close by to the center of town for shopping and restaurants. They usually have a special if you spend a few nights with them. They offer good parking if you have a big family or group gathering. Very enjoyable place to stay in Big Bear.
It's a great place to go as a couple or with family. Very warm and peaceful. Beautiful location and great staff! Been here 4 times and hoping for many more visits. Beautiful scenery. We went in the slow season and was given a wonderful upgrade without even asking.
I can't tell you how many times my spouse and I have stayed in Big Bear, but we only book a room at the Golden Bear Cottages. Why! because it is like coming home to your very own vacation cabin. Once we check in, the serenity is second to none. There are many cabins to choose from. I have enjoyed every cabin I have ever had. My most like cabin is the Honey Pot, not sure why, but it is lovely for romantic getaways. It is a family owned and ran business, but the only business they really care about is making you feel as if you are family - you almost never want to leave. I highly recommend any family to stay at the Golden Bear Cottages, it is the best place on the mountain for so many reasons.
Just checked out of our cozy cabin that my wife and I️ stayed in for 4 nights. The cabin was quaint and clean. We had all of the necessities plus more. The cabin even had a large Rick fireplace that we enjoyed every evening after dinner. The front office staff was really helpful and gave us great suggestions on where to eat and explore. We will definitely be good my back to Golden Bear Cottages. It is our new favorite spot in the mountains!
We booked three nights at this hotel at the beginning of November. I noticed that the rates were very good and the photos of the room we supposedly booked seemed very nice. When we checked in we were given a cabin (number 20) that was in terrible disrepair. This was not what I thought I booked. The cabin is being lifted up by a huge tree just outside the door and the entry and front windows are angled and seem to be ready to collapse. The entry door is hard to open because of the lifting from the tree. The carpet was also filthy and looked like it hadn't been changed in 50 years. The room also had illegal electrical connections everywhere. There were extension cords running all over the unit to accommodate power needs in other rooms. The living room had a small table and a futon. The futon was so uncomfortable it seemed to have no padding at all. I spent most of my time on the bed because there was no other comfortable place to sit. We also killed several spiders in the cabin. The kitchen floor sloped so drastically that the items we put in the refrigerator were leaning to one side. Finally there is a huge hole in the living room floor under the carpet that we tripped on several times. I tolerated all of this the first night because I reasoned that we did not pay a lot for the room. But on the second night we went to the office to complain and ask if we could be moved to another cabin. The attendant said that she could do this but she would have to charge us another 60 dollars per night. Keep in mind that we were the only people staying at this hotel. They had no other guests. So moving us to a better unit would not have impacted anyone else. They simply did not care. I will never stay here again. Cabin 20 is not habitable. It should be condemned by the City of Big Bear Building Dept. It is likely that I will file a complaint with the City.
