We have done many day trips up the Mountain, but this was the first 3 night stay. There are SO MANY places to chose from, and I chose Golden Bear based upon Lisa who actually answered the phone with my questions. We didn't want a room in a hotel, and I needed a Non-Pet Friendly place to sleep. I can't speak for the other Cottages, but # 18 reminded me of places my family stayed back in the day in Wisconsin on fishing trips. It's an older rustic looking cabin, but it was clean, not a cobweb in the cottage, had enough room for two, and just what we needed. If you want a new hotel type place, then go there. but if you want a cool, historic place to stay, then I have no problem recommending this place. It's Glamping is what the Wife wanted, and Glamping is what we got. Bonus was the hot tub by the pool. Don was a pretty cool Guy too...

Spent the weekend, friendly helpful staff recommending "to-do's" in the area. beautiful rustic rooms close to the lake and a few varied hiking trails. Perfect place for a great weekend. Not to far from the shops and restaurants. Thanks.

We were referred to Golden Bear by a couple of friends and family. Awesome place for family getaways. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful cabins and property. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Golden Bear Cottages. Will definitely be returning.

The facilities are wonderful and we couldn't have asked for more. The staff and owners treated us like family and made our vacation one of the best we've ever had!!! We highly recommended to anyone looking for a great vacation in Big Bear, you won't regret it!!!

Just returned yesterday from a week at Golden Bear Cottages. We took time to enjoy harmony with the nature and history that permeates every part of this rustic resort property. The owners were once again helpful in recommending the best things to see and do while all the time treating us special. We had a large three bedroom cabin this time since we traveled with extended family. It was very clean and well decorated with mountain charm. We especially enjoyed all the new TempurPedic beds they changed a couple months ago. Our vacation was memorable and we will certainly return again.

We found the cabins to be very clean and well appointed with nice furniture and lots of room for our entire family. We took the large "retreat" 7 bedroom cabin and several of the other smaller ones. There were cabins of exactly the right size for every family. The large cabin served as our main meeting area as it has a large industrial sized refrigerator, stove, and plenty of room to seat everyone for all meals. We really enjoyed the recreation room a lot, playing foosball, pool, and just sitting around and visiting while listening to music. The grounds are beautiful. We especially enjoyed the pool and the overall friendly atmosphere among the staff and other guests.

The cottage we are staying in has carpet that looks as if it belongs in a mechanics garage. I don't think it has ever been cleaned. The windows and sills are filthy and the cabinets all feel tacky. It is located right next to the main highway and is terribly noisy. I can't believe it has a AAA approval. The worst place I have ever stayed at.

We were a party of 6. We booked a cottage that slept 10. We had a full kitchen with a 10 seat farm table. It was two story with 1 bath down stairs. These cottages are old, but well maintained. Up stairs there were two large bedrooms with 2 beds in each. Down stairs there was a comfortable couch that folded out into another bed. The fireplace made everything very cozy.

We brought a combined church youth group to Big Bear and these cabins fit our needs well. However, I was less than impressed with some of the attitudes we encountered, especially considering how much others on here rave about the owners. Good: The cottages did give us a group rate and they were well equipped with kitchen items. The maids were very good about bringing towels and other necessities. There were some other features (playground, volleyball) that would be nice when the snow was gone. Bad: We had some maintenance issues which were addressed. The cabins are located on the opposite end of town from most of the Big Bear attractions, but that does help the price. Ugly: The melting snow caused a significant river to flow through the house in the downstairs area which was marketed as a meeting/retreat space (it's actually a converted garage). The owner seemed to think this was normal, I disagree. Having grown up in the Sierras at a high altitude, I know that water flowing through the structure of the house and weep out of the concrete is definitely not normal. It made the space dank and musty. While I understand this is more snow than usual, it still doesn't it make it "normal". Overall I was unimpressed with the owner's attitude, which was essentially that he can't control the weather and this was just something we had to deal with. Maybe he was having a bad day.

There is so much I can say about the Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake CA. My family and I had the privilege of staying at one of their cabins this past week and it was a wonderful experience! To start the location is perfect! It is only minutes from the village, and downtown area! If you are wanting to hit the slopes you can find a variety of rental shops within walking distance which is super helpful too. Lisa and the staff were second to none! Not only were they welcoming and beyond accommodating, but they made you feel like you were at home! Each day the maid service did an excellent job too. The cabin itself was just magical! It was warm and inviting. The chair swing on the porch was the perfect spot to sip on some coffee and watch the day begin! The kitchen and bedroom were fully furnished and had everything you could want. Lastly the spa/jacuzzi inside was the perfect icing on the cake to an amazing stay. If all of that was not enough, the prices were not only lower than most places, frankly they give you so much bang for your buck! If you are visiting the Bear Valley you would be crazy not to stay here!
