The Provincetown Inn was undoubtedly a grand place in the 1930s when it was built. It appears to have been updated a bit in the 1950s or '60s, but otherwise seems mired in the past. Our small room was adequate and fairly clean, but lacked modern amenities such as electrical outlets which aren't fully taken up by lamps, etc.. The nicest thing about our room is that it had a second door opening onto a back porch, with the pool and beach just a few steps away. The door also gave access without walking through the long circuitous corridors within the hotel. Those common areas are quite bizarre! Vast areas with a few pieces of funky old furniture, but mostly lots and lots of empty space. There are a couple of dysfunctional function rooms, a small coffee shop which had a few customers in the morning, and a stuffy old restaurant which seemed to be closed. Even the bar which supposedly was open until midnight looked closed or had no customers any time we passed by. A huge barber shop was also closed and seemingly abandoned. The throngs of people who frequent Provincetown would definitely not go there seeking a fashionable new look! Now, this was on the busiest day of the busiest week in Provincetown and the list price for our room was well over $1,000.00 a night. Every other business was packed, often with lines of people waiting to get in. Other than their high-priced rooms, no one wanted to be at the Provincetown Inn because they had nothing anyone would be attracted to.

This was my second year staying at The Brass Key, and there is a lot to love about the property. The grounds are beautiful and extremely well maintained, and the pool and hot tub are fantastic. The morning breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese are also wonderful added touches. Housekeeping consistently did an excellent job—our room was left clean, refreshed, and well cared for every day. I also stayed at their sister property, Crown Pointe, several years ago, so I was already familiar with the level of quality associated with these properties. Unfortunately, what significantly affected this stay was the bed. The mattress offered very little support, and the entire bed frequently felt wobbly. At times, I could hear and almost feel the springs in the box spring beneath me. Every night was restless, and after a full week staying here, I am leaving completely sore, with significant lower back and shoulder pain. The bed was so uncomfortable that I ultimately went to the BWell store in town to purchase CBD rub for my back just to get some relief. I did not bring this to the hotel’s attention during the stay because The Brass Key was sold out, as were most other resorts in Provincetown, so I did not believe there would realistically be another room available. The Brass Key is considered one of Provincetown’s premier properties and charges premium rates accordingly. At that price point, I think it is completely reasonable to expect a comfortable, supportive, high-quality mattres
