Renaissance Barcelona Hotel5.0 out of 5.0

The Renaissance is located centrally in the city so walking to restaurants, shops and attractions is easy. The lobby is nice, and there is a roof top bar, however, make sure to NOT get a room near the roof top as it is noisy with events almost every night. However, to be fair, the events are usually from 8 to 10, and if you are traveling then you are most likely outside the hotel anyway eating and drinking till midnight. The rooms are efficiency rooms, which means, do not plan on spending the day in the room, it is there for clean up, holding your suitcase and clothes, and for sleeping. The concierge, or negotiator as they are called, are very helpful. Have fun and enjoy Barcelona
We stayed at this hotel as part of my business trip to Becelona. We were really looking forward to staying in a 'luxury' hotel for our stay but what a disappointment: from the most unwelcome reception as the lady glared at my wife then said "the booking is for one person only" and even when I showed the email I received from the conference organiser saying that they had booked a room for us both, she just said that she'd have to check that on Monday (2 days later). We were so taken aback by this that we were literally speachless. There followed several other disappointments, from the small, dated, bedroom, the sinking mattress, the leaking aircon unit ("this often happens" we were told) and only one complimentary bottle of water for two people! We complained to the manager when checking out and did get a discount (from the very expensive rates!) but we will never stay at this hotel again.
its location was perfect for my trip, the reason I chose it. It is close to the train, not too far of a ride from the airport and also a taxi away from anything we visited. Upon arrival and check in one of the two rooms were available and we were told about an hour for the other. Having four on our party, the room was a little more than tight. The second room was not ready when we checked back in the hour, in fact it wasn't ready when I checked again after another hour. I questioned the desk clerk if in fact the room will ever be ready that day and she promised she would personally get back to me. She didn't get back to me however the manager Markus did call me and apologize for the delay. He sent the room keys along with a fresh fruit and juice tray up for to enjoy as a peace offering for our inconvenience. Other than that, the stay was pleasant and the staff was helpful and friendly. There was a nice breakfast in the lounge every morning as well. The rooftop was nice, not really much of view just city buildings.
Our room had an intense smell of mold. Neither the front desk nor management cared one bit. Even as a top-tier Marriott member, no difference was shown to an acceptable situation, no matter how hard we tried or how many people we spoke to. It is unfortunate that a world brand in a good location could be so poorly managed. Go elsewhere while in Barcelona.
Well designed room, with all the amenities you would need for a short break. Breakfast was varied although not the best I have had, it was sufficient to start the day off. Dinner was provided on our last night, that was awesome! Staff were pleasant in the main, did see an incident of frustration as I stayed there with some Thai ladies who were not used to sharing a bed. Very few twin rooms in this hotel. Must come back to use the facilities lots to do in Barcelona and a weekend isn't enough time.
Great location with walking distance of Casa Batllo and lots of shops. Staff was friendly. Rooftop bar has great views. The room was on the smaller side and the bathroom shape awkward. The staff was friendly.
Stayed at this property on Marriott points (lifetime platinum). Room was small but was comfortable. Location was excellent and within walking distance to top attractions or the metro station. No lounge here as many others have noted, so you received breakfast certificates upon check-in. This benefit is likely limited to Marriott gold/platinums. There isn't much negative to say about this property, though nothing will likely blow you away. The rooms are on the smaller side, even with an "upgrade" which we received at check in. The location is wonderful and is a definite plus for the property. If you're paying for the room there may be better values, though may not get the complimentary breakfast which was good and on par with other international Marriott's. We also received a half bottle of wine when arriving which was a nice touch. Overall if you're staying a few days in town this certainly is a good choice. Was also looking at the cotton signature hotel but did not end up staying since it was going to require an extra €200 euro. Picture is view from the room.
Location at the heart of the center, very comfortable room and bathroom. Friendly staff, efficient, bar, restaurant, great location. Care-free, everything you need as a business traveller. This is a Marriott group hotel so do not forget to use your customer card
This hotel is in the Centre of Barcelona. The rooftop bar give you great views of the cathedral, mountains and other attractions of Barcelona. It has a small pool where you can lay out or take a dip if it gets too hot. The nite I was there, they did a BBQ and the music was good. They have a DJ every Wednesday nite. Bier 5 Euro. The chambre are a welcoming site. This is an older building but the design & architect teams did a great job. The chambres are small but Great use of space allotted...for example their is a full length mirror on the back of the chambre door. The bathroom is done in Marble from ceiling to floor w/Teal Green-Aqua marble. The vanity is a 1 inch thick piece of glass holding the sink and their is a full length mirror behind the vanity from ceiling to floor so the allusion is that the bathroom is bigger than it is. I tired room service, my burger was cooked medium and was delicious. The chambre layout is good with the bed in the centre of the chambre, round carpet underneath, Two separate wardrobes, fridge but no minibar, desk and large flatscreen on the wall facing the bed. I was in Room 412. The only negative things I can mention is the Desk....its made out of glass & metal with a metal bar directly at our knee cap so you hit you knees every time if you push up to the desk. The curtains are not blackout curtains so the sun does come thru & it can be brite in your chambre as the sun is intense in Barcelona. Finally, do not depend on a wake up call. Reception simply said that their were "too many" wake up calls scheduled and they couldn't complete them all.....that's call an AUTOMATIC WAKE UP service.....most hotels have them. HELLO! Whatever you do, DO NOT ORDER the Eggs Benedict w/Salmon or Eggs Benedict as far as that goes. Arrived with cold bread, some sauce that was not Hollandaise sauce . Someone needs to teach these guyz how to make the sauce and serve it HOT. Breakfast buffet has a large selection of items from salmon to Patata cake. Over, its a good hotel. Central, modern, clean and personnel are good.
Check in was professional, smooth and friendly. The Executive, Guest Room, 1 King was big. Bathroom was big. Bed was super comfortable. Windows kept street noise out. Wifi was sufficiently fast, especially compared to the other hotels we stayed at in Catalonia. Could not see room door from bed: a plus for those of us who are distracted by light from under the door at night Color palette was subtle and tasteful— Rooftop bar had very nice views of the city and good drinks. There was a large convention going on nearby, with lots of attendees staying at the hotel. The hotel was very busy bit did not feel overcrowded most of the time. The exceptions as a Sunday breakfast, but the staff kept things moving with no long waits. Hotel lobby was quite large and had a lobby bar and multiple seating areas. Service at the lobby bar (CUIT) was my favorite aspect of the hotel. The two gentlemen bartenders were very efficient and knowledgable about local/regional brews and wines and places to buy Catalonian food products to take home. When I return to Barcelona, even if I don’t stay at the Renaissance, I will stop in for drinks. I don’t usually stay in luxury properties, with their expense account clientele, finding them too stuffy, but the Renaissance was not stuffy. This hotel was a very enjoyable place to stay.
