Olivia Plaza Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

Myself and my partner celebrated our 2 year anniversary in Barcelona at the Olivia Plaza and before we even got to the hotel, we were treat like royalty.. this started with a phone call whilst we were still in the UK due to fly out, asking us whether we would like Cava or Champagne as a 'welcome drink'.. we found this to be an amazing gesture, and it turns out that this was just the start of things to come... As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we were instantly checked in with smiling faces and were led up to our room with our welcome drink; a generous sized glass of Cava. On the way up to the room, we were told that we were "going to be looked after" for our 3 night stay with them and as we arrived to our room, our host explained that we had been upgraded at no charge, from our original booking, a Double room with view, to a Suite with view. This room was simply incredible.. it had a separate entrance area and living room, a jacuzzi bathtub and was topped off with incredible views overlooking the Place de Catalunya, simply breathtaking! As our host showed us around our room, we also spotted a full bottle of Cava sitting on a bed of ice accompanied with an assortment of chocolate-dipped strawberries, we had been in the hotel for 5 minutes and felt completely like VIP's! On our last night, we arrived back at the hotel and as we walked in, we were asked how our stay was going and we took the opportunity to thank them again for all of their hospitality to which we were then told "we have left a present" in your room. I actually thought that he had referred to the bottle of Cava from the first night, but as we got up to the room, we couldn't believe that we had been gifted with yet another bottle of Cava, chilling in a bucket of Ice! We were exhausted from a full day of walking around Barcelona so this went down a treat with the jacuzzi! To top off the top-level customer service, due to our late flight time on our day of checkout, we enquired about keeping the room on for a late-checkout and without hesitation we were told "you are our special guests, that wont be a problem" and the room was kept on until 3pm without any charge, yet another endless example of the staff going above and beyond. I honestly cannot thank the staff at Hotel Olivia Plaza enough for their hospitality. The care and attention given by the hotel to their guests goes unrivalled and they proved time and time again that they truly want their guests to enjoy their time at the hotel. The location of the hotel was exceptional, right at the top of Las Ramblas and in the heart of the Place de Catalunya. The hotel itself was stunning, furnishings were modern and the entire hotel was decorated very tastefully. Even though our room looked directly down onto the Place de Catalunya, we heard no noise at all from the square during the time we were in the room. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the rainfall like shower was amazing! This has been our first time to Barcelona and Hotel Olivia but it certainly wont be the last, it is an amazing city with an ton of character and Hotel Olivia made our stay as amazing as we hoped it would be. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Complementary room upgrade. The hotel was very modern and excellent location. Near metro and airport transport. The room was spacious with very comfortable bed. Breakfast was good. Staff was very kind and helpful.
Tripadvisor reviewers raved about the location of this hotel - and they were right! it is smack in the middle of everything: Las Ramblas, Gothic Quarter, stores, buses, subways ... and unfortunately hordes of other tourists like us. Hotel staff was extremely helpful with our FREE early check-in. "Sammy" the go-to-guy (I think that was his name) was always there to help with bags, reset the room safe, get you a cab. So why only four stars for this hotel? We are in our 70's and found the toilet and bath on the small side, the modern shower faucets hard on arthritic hands, and there was no provision for a night light for frequent nocturnal toilet trips. Being jetlagged we woke up late every day and couldn't avail of the breakfast so cannot comment on that. But the hotel's location made it VERY easy for us to get around on foot, by bus and use the excellent subway system. Buses to and from the airport are just around the corner (though the taxi ride from BCN was less than 30 euros for two of us, and the driver helped with the bags). We would definitely stay here again and perhaps ask for an upgrade next time. A bigger bathroom maybe?
This hotel is located right in the middle of Catalunya square. The place is excellent a few steps from las Ramblas and Passeig de gracias and all important points of Barcelona. The room is small but nice and comfortable. The breakfast is good and the staff very helpful.
Right along Plaza Catalunya & La Ramblas - quite perfect - except we were arriving and staying during a period of debate on Catalonia's bid for independence. As first-time visitors we were quite anxious before arriving and there was actually nothing to worry about. And then we find out that we were leaving on Spain's National Day and again anxiety as we checked out - no taxis - road closed - big rally at the other end of Plaza Catalunya - lots of people walking about draped with their flags - so how? The Concierge loaded all our bags onto his trusty trolley and we walked with him for one block to the next nearest street with traffic & he flagged a big taxi for us all and we got to the airport in good time - whew! The hotel staff were very helpful and told us not to worry and there was nothing to worry about. The location of the hotel is excellent for a walk into the Gothic quarter and also to catch the hop on hop off buses and walking tours starting point. We had upgraded rooms (tip: book on their website) overlooking the Santa Ana Cathedral - lovely view. Only downside - no drawers or cupboards to unload much. All in all a lovely hotel with a very good location with very friendly and helpful staff.
Right on Plaza Catalyuna and just metres from La Rambla this hotel could not be better located in Barcelona. More than that, we were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived and our room with terrace overlooking the square was very well appointed, modern and comfortable. Amazing experience and very highly recommended. Tip: Only a few rooms have a balcony and the few extra euros are well worth spending.
The hotel is located very centrally , can walk to a lot of shopping area and the cathedral , the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with a lot of delicious things Room was also neat and good The only think which was not that great was the bedsheets , pillow covers were worn out and old . The hotel should some new ones , apart from this every thing was good
Before staying here, I read reviews and looked at photos. I was disappointed that there was no pool on site as photos showed because after a very busy morning of sight seeing, my husband and I find it relaxing to enjoy about two hours in the afternoon at our pool to rest up before going out late afternoon and evening. The room was very quiet and dark, great for sleeping. I was worried it might be noisy because it faced the plaza but it was not. The bathroom was odd and it was difficult for the person who woke up first to be quiet and not wake up other. Lighting added to the difficulty. With all that said, it was worth the price, the staff couldn't be more pleasant and the location was idea. It was right in the middle of Barcelona and within walking distance, perhaps a long walk of almost everything.
My partner and I visited Barcelona last week and we stayed three nights in the Olivia Plaza Hotel. The hotel is centrally located with train station, and bus stop right in front of the property. La Rambla and Gothic Quarters are literally few metres away from the hotel. You can also walk to the Columbus Monument and Maremagnum shopping mall which is located at the southern end of La Rambla. The hotel rooms are clean and spacious. Staff is friendly and courteous. Only thing which we find lacking in the room was availability of electric kettle and coffee machine but a coffee shop is right next to the hotel which opens till late. Overall if you want to walk to most of the iconic buildings within Barcelona CBD or catch train, bus or taxi to any location then stay in this hotel. Right in front of the hotel you will also find buses going to airport Terminals 1 and 2 after every ten minutes.
We had a wonderful stay here. The location is superb for easily walking to restaurants, bus stops and many sights. The staff were very helpful, and there is a delightful patio that makes a great place to sit outside for drinks.
