Gran Derby Suite Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

The staff was kind, but my experience overall was disappointing. The room was divided in 2 areas communicated by stairs: in the bottom place the light was tickling and going off and on. I ordered some dinner to the room, and the burger I had was cold, with a bread hard as a rock. The TV was a disaster, with very low quality image and impossible to find the channels I was interested in (normal spanish ones, nothing special) During breakfast I ordered some eggs with ham and bacon, and they came without the ham. The room upstairs was quite nice, though.
Faced with a very early start to catch a flight from Barcelona I took the easy option and decided to stay in Barcelona the night before. I had stayed in the Gran Derby Suites about 2 years ago and enjoyed my stay so decided to book in for the night. I think this hotel represents great value for money. My room/suite was on 2 levels with plenty of space at a very reasonable price. It ticked all the boxes on cleanliness and comfort with a good wifi connection. There is secure parking at the sister hotel across the road. In terms of local amenities there is a very nice bar restaurant two doors away and other restaurants and bars within a 5 minute walk. It is not near the main tourist area of Las Ramblas - it's just off Agenda Diagonal - which I regard as a bonus as the restaurants have to sell themselves to locals on service and value, not to transients just on location and cheap food. The staff were very nice and helpful. to the extent that with two more trips planned in December I booked this hotel again for the two nights before my flights out of Barcelona.
The name is completely misleading. It's not grand and the room I was allocated did not qualify as a Suite. My main issue with this hotel is the policy they have in place at reception. My reservation and payment of the room was taken a week prior to arrival with a company card that does not belong to me. Immediately after check-in I was asked to source and authorisation which I found completely our of place an unnecessary and which caused me to feel unwelcome and meant a waste of time contacting my office to have this arranged, especially when in the end the reception staff accepted that I had provided them with the company registration details and they had received an email from my MD.
Quiet location with good rooms. Reasonable toiletries and well planned space for bathroom and walk in wardrobe so plenty of space. About 10 min walk from Hospital Clinic subway stop so convenient to get around. Staff speak good English and are very helpful. Breakfast was above average for ten euros and staff try hard to accommodate personal requests. Also very close to taxi rank and about thirty euro to airport on a Sunday morning.
A beautiful hotel with very helpful staff. Rooms very clean and lovely decor. Location a little out of the way, not within walking distance to the main attractions or beach but fine if you don't mind getting the bus or metro. Overall a great experience.
Staff could not be more helpful - from answering queries by email before I booked to suggesting places to go with our 1 year old. Room was very comfortable and clean. Cot was provided free of charge. Loved the split level which allowed us to put our toddler in the cot upstairs and then go downstairs to get comfy on the sofa. Pool and loungers on the roof were nice - deserted when we were there. Everything you could need near by - small local supermarket over the road, a restaurant next door, metro station about 5 mins walk. We walked to Passeig de Gracia one afternoon which took about 30 mins. Breakfast buffet of fruit, cereals, yoghurt, meats and cheeses with hot food to order. The omelette was excellent. Will definitely stay here again next time we are in Barcelona.
This hotel is nice for people wishing to stay close to the centre of Barcelona and chill out during the hot periods of the day. The breakfast is simple but hits the spot. All the staff are friendly and speak good English. They were all helpful when giving suggestions on where to go and eat. The room itself was spacious for 3 people although it was difficult using the shower with your mum and dad in the room as there is no door or wall to allow privacy. The shutter leading to our outdoor alcove was broken and wouldn't raise higher then waist height. Also on our third night the sofa bed sheets were replaced with stained sheets which was unpleasant. However overall a pleasant stay and I would return if in Barcelona again.
We've just returned from our holiday in Barcelona; this being our fifth consecutive year staying at the Gran Derby. The hotel staff are genuinely helpful, the family rooms excellent with plenty of space and the hotel cleanliness exemplary. Would definitely recommend!
The hotel was about 40 mins walk to university area. Very close to the diagonal shopping centre. Lots of choices for restaurants. Staff was very pleasant. Though the pool is small with only 5 loungers and some tables and chairs. Breakfast was not worth the €11 pp per day. We found an Aldi close by for baked breads and croissants. Overall comfortable stay. The pool def made the trip. Staff was all very helpful and friendly. Room service was expensive for what you get. We didn't order room service but menu was expensive. The little touches in the room was nice. Slippers, robes, London white company toiletry sets. Choc on pillow each day.
We booked a family room and were very impressed with it! We were expecting one room with 2 or 3 beds, but instead got two rooms - one upstairs and one downstairs, like a mini apartment, which gave us lots of space as a family. The reception staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly. It was lovely having a pool there to relax by in the hot afternoons. It was also in a great location. We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again.
