George A. at the front desk in the BEST! So helpful with recommendations and is hilarious! Be sure to visit the Plaka area, close to the Acropolis. Lots of cute streets with a flee market. Ideal for tourists.
I stayed in Athens in Feb, next to Syntagma Square. The Candia was the other end of the city centre and a but far away. We walked every day and it was OK, but you couldn't really do it with small children, it's a but far to the City Centre. The Hotel staff were more than helpful and on arriving offered any information that we required. We were given two rooms instead of the Family room we had booked. The rooms were warm and clean, the hotel is dated and signs of general wear and tear are all over. However the breakfast was substantial and a varied choice for everyone, my daughter asked for Gluten free bread and got it. We used the bar when we returned after sightseeing all day and the bar staff were always helpful and friendly. The last evening before we returned we ordered and ate in the bar, we ordered the pizzas and they were really good. I would stay here again as it was fabulous value for money. Even though we were a little further out than expected we bought 2 day tickets for the Gray Line Tour bus and got off on the square around the corner form the hotel. Rooms were tidied and cleaned daily and fresh towels.
i stay here for two nights. near to train station but not much around the hotel when night. near to small mosque. they need to improve on food if they accept to provide halal food since my travel agent request for dinner at hotel. better to serve by course not not buffet. other was great. too bad cant get to rooftop to view the city due ti strong wind z😅
This hotel is at a reasonable location, walking distance between 2 train stations. We booked this as part of a BA Flight and Hotel deal to Greece and the location and packaged price was reasonable. There are however far better hotels. The hotel was undergoing renovation when we visited, so hopefully things have picked up. The look of the rooms is a bit old with the elevator/lift still the old model and creaking. The restaurant and the breakfast spread are a plus, this was included as part of the package deal. Room views were non-existent and the general food options nearby for vegetarians aren't that great !
We booked a super break trip to Athens for 3 nights for our 40th wedding anniversary. Tui specified a quiet double room . When we arrived the staff did not appear to know we were coming and we were put at the front of the hotel in a room with 3 single beds. The room overlooked a busy main road and a train track where the trains ran all night. The noise was horrendous and kept us awake all night. We asked to be moved and we were put on the 3rd floor but still near the road and with 3 single beds. The noise was still horrendous and we moved again a bit further from the road . The beds were rock hard and we thought we had been bitten by mosquitoes only to find from a friend who is a gp it was bed bug bites. Breakfast was good although the waiter whipped the plates and cleared the table as soon as we got up to get a drink. The hotel is not in a good part of Athens but I have to say that all the staff were helpful and really tried to help us. The hotel is not the best but the staff are lovely.
Staff at restaurant and roof terrace and housekeeping were very friendly! Rooms are clean but simple. Beds are uncomfortable. Nice terrace with good food options! Noisy inside the room due to location next to road, but ok.. you can expect that. However, there were groups of young people staying at the hotel and they "claimed" the roof terrace in the evening till 3 o'clock at night. Staff could not do anyting, but try to aks them to "keep it down", but it felft like a youth hostel. Did not get any sleep for last 3 nights... They were fully booked so when I complained for the second time and asked for another room, did they offer a smaller room, but it was our last day, so I did not bother (no time to repack, but decided to visit the city again) and put in earplugs... again a bad night sleep...
The hotel offers basic services and facilities, but was clean, comfortable and value-for-money. Breakfast offered a nice range and there was plenty of all options, sweet and savoury. The rooftop has a small pool, and views over the city and the Parthenon in the distance. The location is not the best, but nonetheless it's still reasonablky central, and a short walk to the nearest metro.
The hotel itself looks a bit tired but the staff are very friendly and very helpful when it comes to local attractions. Less than a 100 meters to the Metro to explore sites like the Acropolis. Hotel staff warned us about pickpockets on the Metro but it was far from crowded and just outside the holiday season, so we didn't see or experience any problems.
Well, I guess that we did leave it a little late to book in, a city as popular as Athens (no terrorists only tourists, although I sometimes wonder what the difference is!) and it was difficult to find. a hotel room at all. With the help of an Athenian friend however we found the Candia, centrally placed near Omonia square, not the nicest area but what could we expect? I wish I could say something positive about the. hotel but permanently overstretched staff, too many tour companies with exhausted tourists, and little patience on either side. But there was one delight- mesmerized we walked out onto the roof top and were stopped in our tracks - Athens lay before and around us from horizon to horizon and we watched the sun slowly sinking and turning the world black until the lights of the apartment blocks came pricking out. But there is something more important to be said concerning Athens and that is the lack of facilities - and concern - for handicapped people (which I am). To get into the Acropolis, as taxis are not allowed near the only lift (and what a lift) which one has to walk 400 meters to reach and then watch it drop down the cliff face scraping and rattling only to scrape and rattle back up carrying a very uncertain you. And when one gets to the top, the glassy, slippery marble of the surface is highly dangerous. Pedestrian lights do not allow enough time for a handicapped walker to cross; in fact nothing shows thought about the difficulties that. one might encounter; and these are only examples
Hotel situated near train and metro station, easy to reach from the airport and to visit the city. Friendly staff( most of them). Extensive breakfast with everything you need. The swimming pool on the roof with a rooftop bar is very nice. You have a view over the city and can see the Akropolis and Lycabettus hill. Rooms are clean but not very spacious for 3 adults. Bathroom was a little outdated. Our room had a little balcony.
