I am really sorry to say this but I haven't been in any hotel where the staff and way of doing business is this incompetent. We arrived and had large luggage with us as we were just finished with a cruise of Alaska and getting ready to do our land portion. There was a pretty good line for the registration and I was looking for the SPG line or section and didn't see anything. Went up to the gal and asked if they had people who could help with the luggage and she said of course we have 7 guys and we waited for someone to come my buddy had managed to bring all the luggage in. I asked the gal at the front desk where the SPG section was and was immediately told they didn't have one. When I asked why she said because of the merger with Marriott they couldn't have one. I said so you used to have one and she said no. I asked to speak with the front desk Manager who comes out and I asked the same question and she said the same thing..they never had one and because of the merger with Marriott (who she says doesn't have one in their hotels) they didn't have one either. I was dumbfounded! Half the staff was new and had no clue what they were doing. So.i got my room and asked if I got an upgrade as a platinum member and the gal said no.thats it. Until then she didn't even say anything about my status. The next morning we had breakfast in the restaurant and my friend asked for eggs over medium, the gal doing the cooking after putting I'm the evhs in and then asked him if he wanted her to turn the ehhs over.. really?? I am now finished with the land portion of our trip and heading back to the same hotel. I can't say I am looking forward to this experience again.. I have given just a small portion of what occurred because I'm on a train and don't have the time to give the other gory details.. stay away if you are looking for intelligent people to enhance your hotel stay.. definitely the worst Sheraton hotel I have ever been in.
We were visiting anchorage for 3 days and found Sheraton to be really a very good place to stay. The rooms were big, with queen beds and a great view. The staff was courteous and friendly. Next time we are in anchorage I would definitely like to stay here!
It was really the most comfortable bed I had during my entire trip. Of course after 10 days of travel I was bushed. Beside the bed, the room was very clean. It was very centrally located although, we still had to drive to most of the places we wanted to visit. We ate some appetizers in the bar one night. The food was really good. It seemed to be apparent that a lot of the staff were new during our visit. Our check-in got off to a bumpy start. We got there at 2:30 but we told check in wasn't until 3pm and that was true. Went back to front desk at 3 and they said come back at 3:30. So I decided to just go to the lounge and have a drink or 2. My son came in from shopping around 4:30 and got us our rooms without a hitch.
Recently stayed here twice 1 night before going to denali and then another night after Denali National Park and then flying home, we were greeted by Michael on reception the first time and he was great, gave us a lovely room on the club floor with a great view of the mountains, the reception area and bar and restaurant is very well decorated and furnished with big comfy chairs that you don’t have in many other places, so when we returned a week later Michael remembered us straight away and even gave us the room we had enjoyed so very much the week before, couldn’t have asked for better service, the only downfall is that it’s slightly out of the way a bit and a taxi is needed for less able people to get to the restaurant and shops etc... but that’s not a negative on the establishment and we would still stay there again if we were in anchorage again. Thank you.
I would recommend staying here, but you should do your eating and drinking somewhere else. The restaurant and bar staff don't deserve even 1 star. Poorly trained restaurant staff in both restaurant and bar. They don't know what they are doing. I would have fired the restaurant manager and the trainer and then retrained remaining staff. That being said, all the hotel staff were very good.
Unfortunately the worst Sheraton service I have ever experienced. New staff that we're poorly trained everywhere in the hotel. Girl on front desk during check in sent us to a room with one bed rather than a double room as per booking. When I went back down to reception her response was I'm sorry,my mistake, bring your bags back down here & I'll fix it. We dragged our bags back down to be given a new room. Luckily this time a bell hop was there to assist with the luggage. Staff on front desk did not know about booking taxi for early morning departure for people with a lot of luggage. Luckily an experienced person came to the desk that could assist. Ordered 3 meals. Two arrived, one didn't. When questioned we were told that they had ran out of the pork. When asked why we weren't told earlier, rather than waiting for the other meals to be served, we got I'm sorry. Will never be back. Will inform travel agent back in Australia to never use for future clients.
Older hotel, needs updates. Tv did not work, but they did fix it. There is no drug store within walking distance and hotel “store” is limited so plan accordingly. Staff could not recommend anywhere? Happy hour in the business lounge does not include alcohol and was rarely stocked fully with the food, often an empty chaffing dish. Overcharged for my coffee, but they fixed it.
The room was nice and this was a great pre-cruise hotel. The bar was great and made a really good old fashioned. The bar staff was really informative on recommendations for dinner. We were also able to take a tour of the City of Anchorage via Viator prior to meeting up with our cruise representatives. The tour picked us up right at the hotel.
My room was comfortable and service was very good. The location is a few blocks from downtown but still within easy reach, even by walking. The breakfast was, like all food in Alaska, on the pricey side. Overall, it was a good stop.
My stay at Sheraton Anchorage was very disappointing. The staff were less than helpful when the guests in the room next to me were being extremely noisy late into the night. Also I called the hotel after I checked out as I believed I left something in my room and the front desk did not know the policy for lost property and she was quite rude. I was told to call back and speak with house keeping.
