great location, friendly staff. But be warned, the showers are horribly small and water will splatter everywhere.

Very nice hotel. Around a 7 minute walk from the Central Train Station and close to the tram stop. Great staff, very friendly and helpful.

Hotel very conveniently located about 5-10 min walk from Central Station when I left the airport. It's close to Dam Square and from the hotel location everything was walking distances. My room wasn't ready upon arrival, but was able to drop off my suitcase so I could explore, then my suitcase was brought up to my room. My only problem per se with the hotel was that the occupants in the surrounding rooms were very loud so if you are trying to sleep it could be annoying. Overall, would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. I loved the fact there was wifi in the hotel.

You are staying in one of the best located hotels, just steps away from the damm plaza and very close to red light district

Absolutely met my expectations. Very friendly staff

The room was for one and extremely tiny, but met my needs for a short term stay. I was under the weather during this trip so maybe this didn't help me feel less claustrophobic. But the staff were very kind and helpful...kept the room tidy and allowed me to borrow the restaurant's utensils, etc. for my soup.

Friendly staff and nice restaurant. Best coffee in town!

This was my second stay at the hotel. I chose it for a second stay because it enjoyed the view from our balcony facing De Bijenkorf and Dam Square. It has three tram lines running in front, AND almost every tram line returns through the front of the hotel (Because its on Damrak leading up to Centraal Station). Very easy to get back to if you get lost on your first trip. Breakfast is amazing, in fact, the hotel has a Michelin Star. Front desk was helpful on last trip with biking directions to other cities. I loved the simple mini bar of Verkade chocolates and san pellegrino. I have recommended others to stay here many times.

We loved the hotel! The location was great and the staff were all very friendly. The entire bathroom got wet whenever we took a shower, which was a little weird. There is a really good restaurant at the hotel and so much to do in the city. Can't wait to return!

Staff was extremely unhelpful. No internet connection.

The bathroom in the room is very small and very inconvenient. The commode is so close to the wall that one cannot sit on the toilet. You have to sit at an angle. The shower stall is very small. Even worse, there is no door or curtain on the shower stall. So you cannot take shower without getting the whole bathroom floor wet. If bathroom problems are fixed, hotel can get up to 3 stars or may be even 4. At present, it deserves no higher than a 2 star rating.

This was a very different hotel from my last stay in Amsterdam, when I was a few miles out in the museum district. Instead, you are right in the thick of things, next to the red light district, Madame Toussands, the Palais, which is great if you immediately want to walk or jump on the tram anywhere, but not so great if you are going to be in your room at all. It is extremely busy, and the rooms were tiny. It seemed overpriced to me, but maybe that's due to the location. The staff were extremely nice to us, but there wasn't much in terms of amenities, just a very tiny room which was 90% bed, a 'view' of a 3 ft. alley and then another brick wall, and loud pulsating music throughout the day and evening.

This is one of my favorite places to stay when I am in Amsterdam because it is perfectly located on the Dam, within very easy walking distance from the Central Station, and quite convenient to everything. Attentive staff; free wifi.

Hotel was centrally located and had a quick friendly staff.

Overall I would recommend staying at this hotel to anyone, particularly a first-time visitor to Amsterdam. I was able to check-in earlier than usual, after arriving on a red-eye flight. The hotel location was central to everything. The room was a bit cozy, but relatively large for European standards. Hotel staff was more than accommodating. Only marginal problem was the one and only elevator at the site - a bit slow and usually busy, and I found myself using the stairs now and then.

Rooms are clean and very modern. The bathtub is big which is unique for Europe. Even with the location your room is quiet. They are doing construction on the stairs but I'm not staying there for the stairs.

When we arrived there, it was freezing cold, and becuase we had stopped on the way tothe hotel and grabbed some food, we were told we could not bring it in the "hotel". So we stood outside finishing our food before we checked in. The hotel staff was not very helpful in finding out anything in the city, and was not even aware of where the nearest laundry was. I guess they expected me to spend $200.00 on their service. I found a local cleaner and had all my laundry done for $10.00. There was also construction in the hotel, which was not mentioned to us at all when we checked in, we found out the next morning when we heard the banging from above, and noticed all the workers in the lobby using the only elevator in the building, extremely unprofessional, and all this from a 4 star hotel! Never gain! Otherwise the location was good, a bit touristy but in walking distance to everything, but then again, Amsterdam is small and everything is close to everything.

English speaking staff. Good food at good prices. Near perfect location, close to everything, night life, shops, train station. Great experience. Would stay there again. Safe, clean, responsive to my needs.

The location of this hotel couldn't be better. (Just steps from Dam Square, two long blocks from Central Station). Nice hotel with Western Amenities. Just wish more hotels in Europe would use a shower curtain..

Small, simple hotel. Walking distance from the train station, hence no need to take a taxi to/from the airport. Although Damrak is an ugly tourist trap, the location couldn't be more convenient. Everything in the city is a short to medium walk away. The room was beautifully furnished and very clean. It seems to have been recently remodeled. The hotel staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and very diligent. We did not try the restaurant downstairs since breakfast ends at 10AM and the waiter was in a bad mood. The WIFI was slow (256kbps), but free. The room had a view to a commercial street, so there was a little bit of noise during the day (the brand new windows sealed off most of the noise). At night it was very quiet. The beds were very comfortable. Although I agree with the other reviewers in that it is more of a high 3-star than a 4-star experience, I thought it was a great value. I would definitely stay there again.
