Wevery stayed at the hotel in Sept 2017, rooms are every day well cleaned and are very spacious. There is a little kitchen with microwave. Great balcony where (if you are on the garden side) every day the sunset view. Great food but only big problem FOOD NOT WARM ENOUGH!!! After a week I found out there is a microwave in the restaurant wish I used all the time to warm-up my food. Personel verry friendly and great pool. All-in not so good and in the bar you have to ask for a glas to drink the apero otherwise you get a pastic glas!!! All by all we had a great holiday.
This hotel is beautiful, really classy build, rooms massive, separated areas I.e bedroom separated by wall to lounge/kitchen area and a door could be used for cupboard or room door so separate off for privacy if more than a couple sharing. Food was fabulous, been to loads of all incs and for me the food was best ever. We were there for 10 nights and during that time, 2 bbq's themed nights Mexican, Portuguese, Moroccan, Spanish all top class and the salads were plentiful and delicious. I am never one for the synthetic desserts but here, wow amazing cakes/ mousses/ ice cream/ tarts yes ate the lot!!!' Ok- the pool area- amazing, biggest pool I've ever seen, pool scene was great plenty of sunbeds, grassed area and concrete area so your choice, pool bar great, yes a queue generally 3-4 people before you get served very quickly. Pool staff made it fun, joined in aqua aerobics (to shift the desserts!!) but no pushy staff if you wanted to chill. Afternoon sometimes DJ, trumpet player, glockenspiel player, dancers. If not your thing there were quiet areas . Staff were so helpful, security box cost 12 € and pool towel hire free but 20€ deposit which you get back when finished, we changed twice while there but it can be done daily. Don't worry about the bar that you pay, you can still use it just get your free drinks from pool bar or bar on lower floor Bars- pool bar 10a.m- 11p.m big area outside and some covered over area Downstairs bar was more of a sports bar and where the kiddy disco is and some entertainment. 10a.m till 12 midnight The bus that takes you too and from the beach is excellent service, always on time and big so never full. To sum it up (sorry been long winded)! This hotel is fab, 5 of us went had a ball but it just needs a few tweaks 1. Carpet to rooms is so stained as patrons take drinks to rooms and spill, I would recommend you replace with dark carpet That would solve it as it spoilt the classy look 2. Dining room, pots are cleared and clattered in front of you, bit canteen like, recommend you have a separate room to take them too. Would not let this put you off it was, other than this an amazing hotel Thankyou alvor baia xxx ❤️
Just returned home after a week's stay at this very nice hotel. We usually do Thompson AI Adult Only Hotels but found this hotel offered everything we wanted on our specific dates. It is a lovely hotel, very modern, clean and spacious. The staff were excellent from reception staff to cleaners. I always believe if you offer a smile when asking a question, they respond! Our room was very spacious with a large bedroom and lounge area. Plenty of space although storage could be better. There were extra pillows and blankets in the cupboards if required. TV in both bedroom and lounge with plenty of english speaking channels. I watched numerous english/america TV programmes/films once I retired for the evening. Shower was great although would suggest they maybe should put a shampoo/body lotion dispenser on wall rather than the very very tiny bottles. Sunbeds were plentiful and never fully occupied throughout the day which made a pleasant change from the normal scuffle at 6.00a.m. in the morning. It meant people were more relaxed knowing whatever time they came out to the pool area they would be able to get a sunbed. The daytime entertainment team were very friendly and hardworking and although most people just wanted to chill and relax so didn't join in, they were very playful. The pool bar area was fine, most days they had two staff serving and the queues weren't long and people were served quite quickly (don't understand the comments about long queues etc - we are happy to queue at bus stops/airports/banks etc but not a few minutes for drinks!} The AI was fine, we do mostly AI and the food is usually the same but we found the food very fresh, the range of meat and fish was freshly sourcedis and very tasty. Yes, they have the same some nights but that's AI for you. Some comments about the food can't understand. Where would you eat Blue Shark at home? Or fresh Veal or Tuna? There were mircowaves available if you wanted to heat anything, we always thought the food was hot enough, others didn't, again personal taste and copious drinks. Normally in Europe they don't tend to have the tea/coffee very hot and we have found that everywhere we have stayed across Europe so not specific to this hotel. Evening entertainment wasn't what we usually get from Thompson only hotels but they had very good singers on each evening but didn't really see much of the other entertainment. The Hollywood Classics night by the entertainment team was excellent. The pool was lovely. The reception staff couldn't be more helpful even to the extent of charging my ipad for me before I left for the airport. Alvor is a small fishing village but didn't really rock our boat to be honest. We went to Lagos which was lovely. Would make one negative comment. DON'T do the Best of the West Tour with Thompson, it was awful. Very old coach, we thought it may breakdown at any time during the tour. We went to areas spending 45 minutes at each stop with nothing therer! The only good part was visiting Lagos, which you can get a bus to from Alvor and spend more time there.. By the end of the tour, the whole coach of people were getting very frustrated and couldn't wait to get back to the hotel. They should rename this tour to: Bore of the West!
My boyfriend and I (mid-20s) enjoyed a relaxing 10 day stay at the Alvor Baia Resort this September. Our room was spacious and clean with a large bed which was comfy, nice bathroom and hairdryer wasn't half bad. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony playing cards enjoying the view. There's a living space with a sofa and telly (we found BBC) 4 person table and small kitchen area, which had some cups and saucers and glasses, an electric hob (but no pans), microwave and fridge. There's a small shop in reception which has newspapers, souvenirs, sun cream, hats, post cards etc. The pool is huge and very cold, but was great because it was so hot during our stay so very refreshing. Always managed to get a parasol and sun loungers in a good spot. We didn't partake in any of the games or entertainment, but the music around the pol was good and we enjoyed just watching. We mostly had beer (SuperBock) or 'snappy cola' when at the pool, I did try the sangria and white wine spritzer which were OK. They don't measure the spirits for mixers, so they are very strong! We enjoyed a few cocktails in the Grand Bar Cafe, which is near the restaurants which were pre-made but they were very nice. Had 5 different ones e.g. mojito or I would recommend the Avlor Sunset. These are included in all inclusive. We only woke up early enough one day to have the breakfast which is standard, eggs, bacon, sausages, toast cereal etc. We liked to go to the 10:30 - 12 snack time in the Grand Cafe where we could get a bacon sandwich and some cake - same in the afternoon except they did burgers and hot dogs. The blue restaurant is supposed to be for adults but we saw children in there sometimes but it wasn't really an issue. We really enjoyed the BBQ nights and Portuguese night. We always found something nice to eat, lots of fresh fish, they cook some of it in front of you e.g. sardines or turkey steaks. Always chips, rice, pasta and lots of fresh bread. The salad bar was always fresh and everything was always stocked up. The puddings were the highlight - all the cakes were delicious. It is a bit canteeny as its lots of cutlery and plates being cleared all the time - but that can't be helped as they keep it clean during dining times. We found the staff friendly, but somethings could get lost in translation (like milk for a tea!) but all their English is great. Its a nice walk to Alvor to the strip of restaurants and shops near the marina where there's lots of nice places to get a drink and look at the view. It takes about 15-20 mins and there's a supermarket just before you get to the main town. There's a shuttle from the hotel to the beach and vice versa, that goes every half an hour. Overall, we had a very relaxing time and came back feeling very full!
My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic holiday at this spacious resort. On arrival at 12ish our room was available immediately, we had lunch and went straight to the pool where there where loads of sun beds. Having read previous reviews this was a worry for me but there was plenty, I was down at the pool at 9am most days and a lot of people didn't surface there until 10/11am. Unless your traveling in school holidays getting a bed is not a problem no matter what time you arrive at the pool. The entertainments team where great very friendly and I did get involved in the aqua gym and stretching classes. This is your choice as they don't pester you to get involved. We flew with Thompson's and we could not fault our reps Wedge and MC, a big shout out to them as they were very helpful. The town itself is lovely and quaint with plenty of restaurants and bars if you want to try something other than the hotel, we did on 2 nights. To me the food was enjoyable at the hotel, particularly the lamb and beef which was really tender. Not much of a salad fan but there was a wide choice. We ate in the adults only section every night and saw no children in there. Yes sometimes there was a queue for the Buffett or drinks stations/ bars but this was not for a long at all and seriously some of these reviews complaining about it is unfair as you get queues everywhere you go including 5 star resorts. The pool was big and slightly on the cold side but you soon get used to it after a few days. The rooms were kept clean and whilst there was some scratch marks on sofa etc we never spent much time in the room so this was no problem to us. A must is a visit to the beach which is spectacular. The only reason I'm not giving the resort a 5 star is that on arrival our coach was full and they only initially had one receptionist on, which was poor as it took ages to check people in. Luckily we were near the front of the queue. The evening entertainment could also do with improving so if your traveling as just adults do take some playing cards to use in the evening. A final point to add is if you have booked this hotel or are thinking of booking it please don't be too concerned with all the negative reviews, as I was but had a brilliant time.
My boyfriend and I returned from this hotel last week having stayed for 1 week. We arrived at around mid day, and on arrival we were told that our room was not ready and that we had to wait until 4pm to check in. We were told to leave our cases in the reception lobby and perhaps go to the pool. This immediately put us in a bad mood as we had been up travelling since 3am that morning and just wanted to check into our room. When we finally checked in, the room was large and spacious but very basic. The corridor carpets were also very stained which did not give us good first impressions. We found he food to be very repetitive throughout the week, we have 2 BBQ's and that was about the only different thing they did... if you like pasta, fish and bland tasteless food you'll be ok. Also, there as queues everywhere, even for drinks, it was a bit like a school canteen... drinks were also served in plastic cups throughout the day and evening. Entertainment was mostly for the children, not adults. Staff were also a bit arrogant. I wouldn't say this was a 4* platinum hotel. The only good things about this holiday was the beach and the weather. We would perhaps go back to alvor but not this hotel.
My husband and I visited here for my birthday, for 7 days. After landing at the airport at 5.20 it took us until 9.45pm until we actualky arrived at the hotel. They disnt ket us check-in straight away and instead chose to usher us to the restaurant instead. We just wanted to go to our room. When we eventually got to the room, we found it to be large, clean and modern. However found the bed, although large, to be very uncomfortable. Room cleaned to a good standard every day. Hotel it sent was clean and modern and very large. The pool area was nice, and although the water was quite cool, it was refreshing after having been sat in the sun for sometime. The poolside animation team did a good job and TBH, these seemed to be the only staff who had any personality as not one other memeber of staff shared a genuine smile or welcome greeting. The drinks in plastic cups throughout the day is acceptable, but really is it necessary on an evening? For us we found the whole dining experience a nightmare. 2 restaurants on site, one for families and one for adults yet staff continually allowed families to go into the adult one. I would not call this a restaurant at all but more of a canteen, having to queue to get in then queue for food which was of a poor standard, meats very dry, fish over cooked and other dishes very bland, tasteless and like warm. Ok could see staff testing the food with the temperature probes but their standard of hot food is obviously different to ours. It was self service for drinks in the restaurant too which I find is very unusual.the whole dining experience took away the enjoyment of going to have a nice meal. The onky food I found to be if an acceptable standard was breakfast and salads. To be honest, I was glad when it came to the end of my weeks stay here. I was more than happy to come home. The onky good part of this holiday, for us was the weather. Couldn't fault it. This hotel has no heart or soul, no personal touches and could go a long way to make your stay much more of an enjoyable experience. Starting with attentitive staff, improving the all inclusive experience, including food and drink and going that little extra step to ensure guests have a good time. For a 'Premier Hotel, it just doesn't live up to it. I won't be visiting this hotel again.
Stayed at the Alvor Baia all inclusive so Pleased we did as it's so expensive in the algarve to eat out staff lovely the food was average although ther salads fantastic I had fish most of the time ther was something for everyone and for vegans to
Group of 5 friends stayed at Alvor Baia September 2017 - i really cannot fault hotel - it was extremely friendly; clean and although large it was not over crowded - rooms were cleaned daily - we were All Inclusive and there was a good selection of food and drinks - pool area was lovely and the entertainment worked hard to provide something for everyone without being pushy - rooms were a good size and even though there were 3 of us in our room there was plenty of space so we didnt feel squashed - we had a fabulous week at Alvor Baia and would recommend to anyone - 10/10
After deciding that we needed a week away in the sun we booked the Alvor Baia In Portugal based on the price for all inclusive. Well that's exactly what we got, amazing weather in an amazing hotel with great facilities! The food was nice and varied and the drinks the same. The hotel is very modern and the room was more like an apartment, excellent! The pool is huge with plenty of beds and the animation team may not always be to our tastes (that is a preference not a criticism)they do try their best. Come on,don't let the little things spoil your holiday! Alvor town which is a short walk away is definitely worth a visit especially Bolan bar! Iain and Carol Patterson. Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
