Fantastic family stay but sargasso covered beach and water, NO clean up.

We loved Playa Caribe, condo was very clean and spacious for our family of 5. The location was perfect with lots of nearby attractions and dining. Fly into Tulum as it’s smaller, closer and much easier than Cancun. The ONLY negative for our stay was the amount of sargasso (seaweed). It made both the beach and ocean completely inaccessible so we had to drive to get to a beach club which kept up with the seaweed. Guests should know there is NO clean up here and it is impossible to enter the ocean or access the beach due to lack of clean up.

Awesome stay in Akumal

We were extremely happy with the condo. It was in a great location and decorated beautifully in authentic Mexico style. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioner worked well and the covered balcony overlooking the ocean was spectacular. There were several restaurants within walking distance as well as a small market across the street for drinks and snacks. The welcome basket was a nice surprise. You definitely need water shoes before entering the ocean.

Spacious, comfortable, private and great view of the sea. Close proximity to wonderful restaurant as well as grocery stores so that we could easily cook in the fully functional kitchen. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The only drawback was that we had to make extra arrangements with transportation services because they didn’t know where it was.

We loved the area, beautiful and quiet. Walking distance to a convenience store, nice fun beach bar and restaurant, also a great massage place was nearby too. A short drive to a beautiful lagoon and just far enough away from Tulum and Cancun to be peaceful and relaxing. The property was well maintained with a beautiful atrium central to the building... great housekeeping and friendly, helpful staff all around. We loved the roman style tub/shower combo in the bathrooms, plentiful balconies and falling asleep to ocean wave sounds. We hope to return to Playa Caribe one day!

Home away from Home

A piece of heaven in wonderful Akumal! This condo was everything we hoped it would be, and more. The photos and description are quite accurate. My husband and I spent a wonderful week here and have no regrets whatsoever. The condo was spotlessly clean, attended by maid service each day, and had everything we needed in the kitchen and condo to make ourselves very comfortable. Now… About that mind blowing view of the ocean! We could not get enough of it! When we were not watching the waves on the balcony, we were down luxuriating on the beach. After beach time we could be found one of the several nearby wonderful restaurants, snorkelling, or riding our bikes through this quaint and lovely neighbourhood. You will never regret spending time here.

Best stay ever!

Our vacation was to celebrate my sister's 60th birthday and a number of family members stayed at other condos along Half Moon Bay. We spent time at each condo and I feel like this unit was head and shoulders above the rest.

Lovely

I can't say enough.about this.property. it is nicer than the photos can portray. The bedrooms are very spacious with large closets and wonderful bath. The design elements along with the attention to decor and lighting made the experience extra special. The common areas are spacious and well appointed. Everything you could ever need is at hand. The view is amazing and a constant source of pleasure. It is located in a nice area with a very nice and convenient beach bar nearby. We rented a.golf cart which I would recommend. It is not far from the main village but we did enough walking on the beach and a hot walk into town was not on my bucket list. The staff is very responsive and the housekeeper, Patricia is very sweet and took wonderful care of us. You will not be disappointed Enjoy it as much as we did. is a gem

A Slice Of Paradise

Arriving in Playa Caribe was easy. We felt safe as we left the freeway and entered the quaint town of Akumal. One two way road takes you though a hotel arch (yes, no typo), the town's square, the natural reserve building, the parking lot for all Akumal activities, and many restaurants on the side, to a security "casilla" and a friendly checkpoint, where you have to know your address. As instructed, we pulled into the Playa Caribe front parking lot, and a security guard checked us in, without delay. The apartment was clean and fresh (AC was on and there was music playing for us) The ocean front balcony was much more than I expected; the place where we had our first cup of coffee, or morning mate in my case. Speaking of breakfast, the small kitchen had all we needed to prepare an omelette or warm up the left over pizzas. I imagine you could cook there, I just don't understand that concept. There are many good places to eat out around Half Moon Bay. The two master suites are magnificent. The beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are spacious, and comfortable. Plenty of hot water, basic toiletries, clean towels. Throughout the apartment the decor is "Mexican eclectic" with native design masks and deities, local Christian touches (lots of miracle charms, you should google that), and ocean symbolism. If only once, you should go to Akumal Bay and swim with the turtles. Either way you have to pay a "certified snorkel guide" who will take you to the area where the turtles are. They provide some equipment and the mandatory flotation device. You do not need to go to the Parque Natural and pay a lot, by going to the Lol-Ha restaurant thru the Hotel Akumal Caribe (driveway between OXXO market and Chomak market) and paying 450M$ for a palapa for the day (includes two beach chairs and access to clean bathrooms and showers. The restaurant food is great! We really liked the ceviche mixto. Even though its not much advertised, and access is a bit rocky, snorkeling in the bay in front of the building is a wonderful surprise. Don't forget water shoes. The apartment is so quiet, the sound of the waves come though and lulls you. We all came back well rested and with happy hearts. We will most certainly be coming back to Playa Caribe.

Playa Caribe #4 - A holiday treat in beautiful Akumal, Mexico

As great as our anticipation of our experience and the beautiful pictorial provided of Playa Caribe #4, justice was served. This place was majestic and magnificent by all accounts. Our condo was warm and inviting. We couldn't have been more comfortable in this "no place like home" environment. To wake up to the spectacular view of the beautiful sunrise out on the horizon and each crystal clear night with the stars touching the sea, it couldn't have been more beautiful. The on-site management staff was very warm and always eager to help. The cleaning staff was reliable and kept our condo and grounds spotless. We found the property location to be as good as it gets sitting in the middle of Half Moon Bay. Very quiet and peaceful. At the same time, only minutes away from all the activity one might desire without ever leaving Akumal. Our family of four really felt as though we were treated as VIPs. We truly can't wait to return to Akumal and will do everything possible to plan around the availability to once again stay at Playa Caribe #4

Great week at Playa Caribe #9

We had booked Playa Caribe #4 for our family of 4 in Akumal. Upon arrival, we discovered that the air conditioning in that unit was not working but Agustin, the property manager was able to offer us unit #9 to ensure that our visit would be comfortable. Unit #9 was owned by the same person, making it very easy. From the time we booked our stay, the owner, Shari, was incredibly responsive and helpful. She provided a wealth of information, to ensure that our trip was enjoyable and proactively provided answers to common questions. When I had concerns, she also put our minds at ease about renting a car for our time there (turned out to be a great call). The condo was beautifully appointed and clean (note that if you are going with a family, the master doesn't offer complete privacy due to the sliding doors that open into the living room and are not solid...although in unit #9 there is a curtain you can also close). The location was perfect, within walking distance to many restaurants. The staff at the condos were incredibly friendly and helpful. The only downfall we had during our visit was the sargassum, making the beach and water directly in front of the condo unusable. In spite of that, we found many other places to enjoy the beaches and would definitely return again. Thank you Shari and the team at Playa Carible for a lovely vacation.

Wonderful Experience

This was our first vacation to Akumal and Playa Caribe #4 was ideal. Shari's guide to the property and many nearby excursions was extremely helpful. The condo was clean, well kept, and spacious. Additionally, Shari has a wonderful collection of Mayan art and has several of her own excellent paintings displayed as well. The building manager and his staff take excellent care of the property and each individual unit. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable place to stay as well as close proximity to many of the unique experiences that the Mayan Riviera has to offer, Playa Caribe #4 is it.

Get away from the tourists!

We were looking for a relaxing tropical vacation, but wanted one on our own terms and not at a theme-park-like resort. Playa Caribe, in the middle of Half Moon Bay in Akumal delivered just that. The condo is beautiful and right on the sand. We had a great time exploring and snorkeling on our own and sampling the restaurants in Akumal Village and the Pueblo. We’d recommend a private tour of the Santa Cruz Cenote, the only privately-owned Cenote in the region. JP took my family and I through this amazing experience in a private setting—not a cattle call like the big resorts put people through. The pre-stay communication and the great service by Manager Agustin was fantastic. We will definitely be returning some day.

Instead throwing out the life story you often find on Pinterest, I decided to bullet point key highlights and qualities about the property. * Walking through the door provides visitors the opportunity to experience that the property is quite beyond the photos viewed online. * The easiest check-in/checkout ever (in my experience)! * WiFi and air conditioning are on point (excellent)! * Was able to access my apps on the television. * Great communication between management. (If I needed anything all I had to do was request, and someone returned my query quickly and efficiently.) * Bedding and furniture were very comfortable. * Groceries delivery service was able to bring groceries directly to condo. * Beach staff worked tirelessly to maintain beach and make sure all surroundings were clean without being too noticeable. **** Housekeeping service was discreet, professional and quick. (In and out like ninjas. You’d be hard pressed to see them in action, and were just greeted with a sparkling clean condo when returning for another drink etc.) * Several options of activities/sightseeing in area. * I can’t wait to return!!!

Great family vacation!

Condo is beautiful and in a great location for exploring the area. Our only complaint is that we didn’t stay longer. The condo has everything you need for a comfortable stay and the staff at the Playa Caribe are very accommodating and friendly. A huge benefit for us, being first time visitors to this area, was the wealth of knowledge that Shari shared with us about the area. It made it very efficient for us to learn the ropes and make the most of our stay in Akumal.

Beautiful, clean condo, great location

We had a great week! Highlights included snorkeling in the bay out front and several other places nearby, walking to the great nearby restaurants, swimming in the pool, and a ceynote tour. The condo was very clean, totally bug free, and very spacious for our family of 4! The information from the owner, sent to us before our trip, was very helpful for our packing and planning. A great place -- we would definitely stay there again! (Other reviewers have noted that there a seaweed issue throughout Half Moon Bay, but it was not a big deal for us -- several workers persistently worked at clearing it out. For us, it meant that we walked 1-2 minutes north where there were fewer rocks and less seaweed to enter the water for snorkeling. During our visit, there was no terrible smell like some others have reported.)

Great Condo Great Location

We are hesitant to write this review because we are scared the secret of Playa Caribe #4 will get out. We have been to Akumal several times in the past 10 years and watched it change from a sleepy beach town to Akumal Bay becoming a turtle tourist trap. We were so relieved to find that Half Moon Bay has retained the charm we came to love so dearly about Akumal. The north end of Akumal is just as quiet and lovely as we remember. Shari's condo is so comfortable and beautifully appointed- from the great kitchen equipment to water you can drink out of the tap!! Her recommendations for a magical stay are spot on- Cenote Santa Cruz was our favorite cenote experience ever and the snorkeling in front of the condo is spectacular. Thank you. We'll be back!

Spectacular condo in a spectacular location

My family had a truly wonderful week staying in Playa Caribe #4. The condo is beautiful, spacious and with a spectacular view. Really appreciated the fruit, coffee, tortillas and salsa welcome basket. All the restaurants are in walking distance. However, if you want to book a golf cart for the week, I suggest you book it prior to your arrival if you are visiting at a popular time (as none were available for rent during our stay between Christmas and New Year). However, I am glad as we really enjoyed walking to and from our dinners - super safe area. Make sure to bring water shoe for swimming on Half Moon Bay so that the coral is not an issue. Highly recommend for a relaxing week.

Perfecto!

Our vacation at Akumal was great. Staying at Playa Caribe #4 was a perfect addition to that great experience. The staff was so friendly and very helpful. We felt so welcome as soon as we set foot in the property. Agustin was awesome, and he is always smiling. Our maid was Patricia and she was very always on time and made sure our place was always clean and organized everyday. The condo is a paradise. The view from the deck was amazing. We watched the sunrise and the full moon relaxing on the deck.The kids enjoyed the pool which was very clean. They enjoyed watching the three little iguanas that roamed around the pool. They even named them Brad, Gary and Pedro. We will miss them. The property is so safe and secure as there is a security guard on duty each night. Well Akumal is very safe in the first place. The condo is pretty stacked with all the things you need. The beds are really comfy and place has ample space for the 5 of us. It is a walking distance to La Buena Vida restaurant, and we ate there almost everyday. We biked to Yalku lagoon, to town, and to Turtle beach. Its a great way to ride a bike around town as traffic and parking can be a hassle in town. I truly recommend Playa Caribe #4 to anyone who wants to stay in Akumal. And the owner Shari is great, accommodating, prompt communicator, and has lots of ideas and suggestion to add to your great vacation.

Wonderful Accommodations!

We stayed in Playa Caribe #4 for almost a full 2 weeks in late June-July. The condo itself was everything as pictured and more. The owners have taken very good care of this property and have it decorated very nicely. The layout was perfect for our family and was very comfortable. Speaking of comfortable, the master bed was wonderful and not too firm or soft with high quality linens. We also loved the privacy wooden doors and curtains in the bedroom which made it (sometimes too easy) to sleep in late. We also had a great view right out the balcony; however, the sargassum was terrible while we were there and the view was like looking right down at a muddy swamp. They did have people cleaning up the sargassum, but unfortunately that only made the smell worse so we didn't spend much time on the balcony or right out in front of Playa Caribe. We were able to find a small spot north of the condo where we would go snorkeling and enjoy the water. The staff at Playa Caribe are very friendly and helpful as well; we especially loved Jose the security guard. Although we never saw any turtles hatching, Jose was very sweet to our kids and even knocked down some coconuts and cut them open for the kids to enjoy! Shari's itinerary and suggestions also came in very handy and she was very easy to work with. We hope to visit the area sometime in the future when there are no major sargassum issues! Otherwise it was a beautiful, tranquil vacation and very much recommended for those who are looking for peace and quiet.

Plenty of fun

Despite Mother Nature having some fun with us, we never slowed down. Akumal is an easy drive to many side trips; Tulum, Coba, Playa del Carmen, even Puinta Allen. The one draw back was our ease to get onto Akumal Bay. Seems public access was very difficult. We managed to go through a dive shop, no problem, but thought there would be a more public way in. Half Moon bay, like most of the peninsula (Cancun to Punta Allen), was fighting the sargassum seaweed issue so going to the main beach made getting in the water less of a fight to get through the seaweed along the bay. We also enjoyed a day at the lagoon at the end of the road in Half Moon bay area. While snorkeling on on first day we did see a few turtles at the main beach. We enjoyed our stay! The apartment served us well. Clean, comfortable, well equipped, well maintained.
