Dare to have the drive of your life in Daytona Beach

Famous for its drivable beach, action-packed festivals and sunny outlook, Daytona Beach lies along the east coast of Florida on the Atlantic Ocean. This friendly city is well known as part of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) series, where race enthusiasts mix with beachgoers and spring breakers. Along with a coastal lifestyle, Daytona Beach offers travelers the excitement of nearby theme parks as well as golf, sport fishing and all the fun of a retro beach town.

Things to see and do
Beaches

From people-watching and driving on the beach to secluded sunbathing, there is a stretch of sand for everyone. Check out the 1950s style boardwalk of Daytona Beach, enjoy the quiet of Ormond Beach, and visit New Smyrna Beach or the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse for a day of sightseeing and adventure.

Daytona International Speedway

When you feel the need for speed, there is no place better than the birthplace of NASCAR: Daytona International Speedway. While you can't drive an actual stock car, the trolley ride takes a spin around the track and lets you get up close to the banked curves and adrenaline of America's favorite raceway. The Living Legends of Auto Racing Museum, located in south Daytona, recognizes the pioneers of stock car racing with photos and memorabilia.

Theme parks

Daytona Beach hotels are only about an hour from the theme park capital of the world in Orlando. Here, travelers can enjoy all the fun of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld. Cape Canaveral is also just over an hour away from the Daytona Beach area.

Golf

A mild climate makes the Daytona Beach area a year-round destination for golfers. With numerous championship and award-winning golf courses designed by renowned golfers such as Robert Trent Jones, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, Daytona Beach is ranked among the top 15 places to play golf in the nation. Daytona Beach is also home to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).

Special events
Speedweeks

In early February, Speedweeks precedes the season-opening NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway. Nearly 200,000 fans descend upon the beach town for events such the Daytona 500 qualifying races, truck races and other racing events before “The Great American Race,” the Daytona 500.

Bike Week and Biketoberfest

If you're a motorcycle fan, Daytona Beach is the ultimate destination. In March, Bike Week offers motorcycle races, bike shows and biker reunions, while Biketoberfest in October brings street festivals, concerts, rides along scenic A1A and manufacturer exhibits.

Daytona Blues Festival

Held at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, the family-friendly Daytona Blues Festival features up-and-coming blues artists and well-known performers, with past guests including Tommy Castro, Otis Taylor, and Victor Wainwright and the WildRoots. Along with some of the best blues in the business, this three-day event features food vendors and craft beer selections. The festival raises health care funds for women and children through the Halifax Health Foundation.

Where to stay

Accommodations in Daytona Beach range from boutique hotels and luxury resorts to casual inns set along scenic waterways. If you're visiting on business, the El Caribe Resort and Conference Center offers a business center, along with conference, meeting and banquet facilities. Those looking for a more leisurely stay are given a warm welcome at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort, with spacious contemporary suites and four on-site bars.

Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) is within close proximity to most hotels. If you're combining your Daytona Beach vacation with an Orlando getaway, you may want to fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO), which has nonstop service to numerous U.S. cities.
