If you plan to fly from Melbourne to Auckland, the easiest way to get to the Melbourne Tullamarine Domestic & International Airport (MEL) is to take the Skybus service, which operates 24/7 and departs the city center every 10 minutes for the 25 kilometer ride. Once your flight is in the air, it's only three and a half hours before you reach your destination.
There are as many ways to get around Auckland as there are sites to see. You can take a coach tour to Christchurch, Queenstown, Waitomo Caves, and West Coast Glaciers, a Trikke tour of the waterfront, a scenic flight for a view from above, or a ferry to the Great Barrier Island. If you want to see the sights from a stationary viewpoint, try the top of the Sky Tower, the tallest man-made structure in New Zealand. With three viewing platforms and a SkyWalk around the pergola, you'll have a panoramic view. While you're up there, you can take advantage of the fine dining available.
Auckland enjoys warm summers with high humidity and mild winters. There are few extremes of temperature, so sunglasses, a raincoat and sunscreen should serve you well. For your return, there are many options to get to the Auckland Airport (AKL), which is located between Auckland and Manukau. All taxi and shuttle companies are able to drop you off at the airport.
