History of Dane County Regional Airport

The original name for MSN airport was Truax Field, after the honorable Lieutenant Thomas l. Traux. The Lieutenant was a native to the Wisconsin area who was killed during training due to poor weather while operating a P-40 on November 4th, 1941, just before the United States entered into World War II.

Today the airport is home to the Wisconsin Army National Guard, as well as the 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
