Fly to Jinnah International Airport
When you fly to Jinnah International Airport (KHI), you'll probably want a hired car or taxi cab to navigate the urban streets of Karachi for you. The public transit system can be confusing for travelers, but you can hire a car to take you to anywhere you want for a good price.
Hints and Tips
Karachi is an eclectic and cosmopolitan mix of the best Pakistan has to offer. Located on the shores of the Arabian Sea, the vast city is the home of many Pakistanis looking to make something of themselves. The British Raj style architecture is a hallmark of Pakistan's colonial past, but the neoclassical and modern buildings tell of the city's future.
Buildings like the National Museum of Pakistan and the Sindh High Court in the city center are worth seeing. If you go northeast from the city center on M.A. Jinnah Road, you'll encounter the peculiar and altogether grandiose Quaid-i-Azam Mausoleum (dedicated to Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Pakistan's founder). You can check out the Flag Staff House, Jinnah's old British Raj mansion, to the south.
In between the Mausoleum and the mansion is another indicator of Pakistan's colonial past: St. Patrick's Cathedral. Built in the Gothic Revival style, the cathedral has been standing since the 1880s and is one of Karachi's most prized Christian landmarks. The Ziarat of Abdullah Shah Gazi, an important green-domed Islamic landmark in the city, sits on a hill above Clifton Beach.
