As Italy's seventh-largest city and a hub of past and present cultural activity, Bologna makes for a valuable stop on anyone's itinerary. The Piazza Maggiore acts as a major focus of activity and is also home to the majestic Fountain of Neptune which has stood for nearly five centuries.
Just south of the Piazza Maggiore, you'll find the Basilica di San Petronio, which is the fifth largest church in the world. Head a little bit east and discover the iconic Due Torri (Two Towers); both are leaning and have been standing for over 900 years. These are just a few of the historic and fascinating constructions throughout Bologna.
Fly to Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) and find yourself just five or six miles from the city center. Most of Bologna's important sights can be found in the historic city center, including over 24 miles of architecturally astounding porticoes. A train or taxi ride can get you from the airport to Bologna's Central Station.
It wouldn't be a trip to Bologna without indulging in some of the city's most decadent cuisine. Known as the home of Bolognese sauce, Bologna's restaurants can be found around the Piazza Maggiore, near the train station and Montagnola Park, and virtually everywhere else throughout the city.
