"We owe recovery of the Nauvoo Bell to the Lamoreaux family" (http://www.lds.org/ensign/1981/02/i-have-a-question). Come and find out more about the controversial (and conflicting) stories surrounding the rescue and transportation of the Nauvoo Bell—stories posted throughout the house.
Just down the street from the Nauvoo Temple, experience Nauvoo with this historic 1840s home as a base for all your adventures. Owned by the Lamoreaux family of Historic 1840s Nauvoo, sleeps ten comfortably, is within walking distance of the Nauvoo Temple, and has a modern addition with all the amenities. Perfect for large groups or small families.
The home sleeps ten comfortably with five bedrooms--four of them in the historic part of the house, and one in the loft. Two have king beds, and three queens. The large living room downstairs has lots of lounge and sitting room and a gas fireplace. The kitchen and separate dining area provide all the appliances and kitchen needs for a large family. A large, double-wide driveway for plenty of parking. The house addition includes a historic stairway that was moved from a 150-year-old bank and a full service bathroom with Jacuzzi (and shower) on the main floor. There is also a full bath in the basement (with shower), and a half bath in the loft. There is a washer and dryer for guest use downstairs, and the home is centrally heated and cooled for year-round comfort. High speed Internet access, cable TV, and DVD player all for guest use. The deck out back is a perfect place for a BBQ or for relaxing on those warm summer evenings while enjoying the gentle summer breeze.

Sibling retreat

This is a nice property for a family - but I would not recommend it for couples because you have to walk through bedrooms to get to other bedrooms and the bathroom. It would not be good for older people because of the steep stairs.

A great location, large home for our gamily

The location was close to the Nauvoo Temple. We walked to the temple for sunset most nights. It was a few minutes drive to Old Nauvoo. It was a great accommodation for our family.

Perfect

We stayed at this house as Nauvoo pageant family cast. It was the perfect thing for us with bathtub for our littles, washer/dryer for our costumes, comfortable beds for all 11 of us, and management that responded immediately to concerns.

Interesting historical house with modern conveniences

We enjoyed our stay here. The host was very responsive, and everything went smoothly. Being an older house, the light/dimmer switches were somewhat of an adventure. Guests should know that only two bedrooms are fully private, with two bedrooms passing through to other bedrooms and one being a loft area above the family room.

Awesome!

What a beautiful, and very comfortable house in a nice little town. There was six of us there and we had plenty of room! Plenty of room for parking too. We definitely look forward to staying next year when we pass through.

Staying in an historic home was definitely a great addition to our stay. We really enjoyed imagining what it would have been like in the 1840s. Because it is an historic home, it is not as roomy and convenient as some homes we have stayed in, but the history of the house was a good trade-off.

History with modern amenities

The main home was built when Nauvoo was just being established and an addition was added that included some upgraded space without detracting from the history for cozy family gatherings. We loved staying there with our family and would do it again in the future.
