STAY FAR AWAY FROM ANY OFFERS OF THIS HOTEL

STAY FAR AWAY FROM ANY OFFERS OF THIS HOTEL. We were literally kicked out of the hotel the first evening we arrived, without ANY explanation whatsoever. Even when Expedia spoke to the hotel management, the management of the hotel gave them no explanation. In Istanbul we had to find a first hotel that had a room available and paid way more than we would have if we booked another hotel on Expedia. Book your stay at Monarch Hotel only if you are adventurous and you want to find out what it feels like to be kicked out of a hotel on your arrival to Istanbul. Another thing, in the hotel description it is indicated that the staff of the hotel is multilingual. This is a lie. They do not speak any other language than Turkish, and very likely poor Turkish also (because we had Turks from Expedia communicate with them and they could not get any answers). Once again, stay away from this hotel. If I could I would give them a negative 10 out of 10. My serious advice to Expedia is to remove the listing of this hotel from their website.

Worst hotel in Istanbul

Unfortunately we had a bad experience at monarch hotel. On arrival our taxi driver got lost numerous times, when we said we are not paying for the full fare he made a scene and then went inside to try and get the hotel to charge us more for the room so he could get the money out of us that way, which they did. Lucky I had proof of payment for the extra bed. When the taxi driver tried to take my father outside to fight him I just gave him the extra cash to get him out. Everyone that night was on the taxi drivers side. To turn the lights off in our room we had to take the card out of the socket, which meant we had no power or air conditioning that night. We didn't bother asking to fix it. The room also stank like a sewer. The next morning we asked for a map of istanbul, they of course had none. Unfortunately I had already booked and payed the same hotel for the end of our tour around Turkey, and when we got to the hotel late at night there was troubles again. There was no extra bed in the room, the bed had been layed in, there was an ashtray full of cigarette butts next to the bed and food in the fridge and rubbish in the bins. The young lad on who was new put me and my sister in a new room and put my dad in another room free of charge. When I asked him what time checkout was he had no idea. The next day the owner tried to charge us for the extra room, but when I showed him my proof of paying for the extra bed he backed off. When we left he told us to rate his hotel 10/10.

Great location, excellent hotel, nice staff

Location of this hotel is great, area is really nice, colourful and there's everything you can think of. It's also cheaper because it's less touristy. Great transport connections too. We were lucky to be on the 4th floor facing the Bosphorus- the best view of Istanbul I've had.

First put me in a room that the door wouldn't lock at all. Then put me in a room occupied by another guest. Then gave me a keycard that wouldn't work on the third room. Finally got a manual key for the third room on the fourth attempt to check in. Once I got in this room the bed was located right in the middle of the room occupying the full width, so that I literally had to crawl over the bed to get to the far half of the room with the closet. Also, the shower stall was partially disassembled when I got into the room such that the door had about a 2 inch gap. When trying to call my airport shuttle before leaving I learned that the room phones cannot call outside of the building. Also the front desk wouldn't let me use the main phone for this quick local call and could not tell me where any nearby pay phones were. Their advice was to ask at some of the other hotels on the street.
