Beautiful room with nice size balcony, and great view of the city. Great breakfast buffet! Central train station is very close by and easy access to public transportation! There are also plenty of grocery stores within walking distance. Variety of dining restaurants are lacking, but there are plenty for a quick bite.

The hotel is a throwback to the 70s. Has not been updated since the Nixon administration. I really didn’t mind the old style, it was kind of charming actually. I did mind the fact that the tub drain wasn’t positioned properly and all the water draining from the tub wound up on the floor during my wife’s shower. I know it’s not my problem, but I can’t allow water to gratuitously drain on the floor….anyone’s floor. I was vexed by this problem. Luckily I have plumbing skills and I was able to take the two plates off of the access portion and I noticed that the pvc drainpipe from the tub was not squarely positioned over the separate floor drain. I carefully nudged the tub’s drain pipe so its end became positioned over that floor drain. Bingo! The problem was solved. The tub water then drained properly. No runs, drips or errors. I didn’t have to bug the staff and I was quite proud of myself for fixing it. That’s the German blood in me I suppose. If you want towels replaced, you need to pre-arrange that at the front desk. My wife was informed that she should have arranged this originally at check in. I think it was a bit of eco-shaming. Overall, the hotel has good karma I believe. Finland is a bit behind the times, but it’s all quite charming. We ate a reindeer for dinner in a nearby restaurant. There were many restaurants present in the surrounding area of the hotel. The Bolt/Uber is a bit crazy just outside of the hotel, but just send the driver a message you are at Sokos.

Corner of the building 6th floor “Railway station view room” was a stretch when the view was from side window and rest of the windows faced building across the road and room was on top of the tram line. Room itself was great, superior king, lots of space and nice retro vibe. Inside the hotel and hallways were quiet BUT trams outside kept me up and woke me up during the three night stay. Breakfast was sufficient and view from 10th room restaurant great. Special thank you to Adalina at front desk. We appreciated your help on the day we checked out.

Original Sokos Vaakuna is a gem near the train station in Helsinki. The decor is charmingly restored vintage, everything I. Great condition. Very worthwhile to get a superior room on the 9th floor for amazing views and your own balcony overlooking the city. The 10th floor bar has even more incredible views with slightly higher than average cocktail prices but totally worth it. You can order a few menu items there at the bar and I recommend the creamy salmon soup- a good portion of grilled salmon with cooked vegetables in a milk and butter broth. The location is great for arriving by train (or by commuter train from the airport) and for walks to the Esplanadi, the waterfront, shopping and dining and to the design district.

4.5 stars. Bad about this hotel is no pool and fitness facility. But you can walk 5 minutes across the street to use the facilities ant the Presidentti at no charge. Ice is only available from the bar in the restaurant on the 10th floor, and a server isn’t there all the time. Wifi is free but weak and patchy. Standard rooms are very small such that 2 guests would be tripping over one another. Bathroom is tiny with no counter space. Else, very convenient location with lots of shopping, eating and sightseeing opportunities within walking distance. Close to several public transportation hubs (bus, train and streetcar). Also a great pickup spot in front of the hotel main entrance for taxi or ride share pickup. I would highly recommend staying here and would not hesitate to stay again if in a larger room.

What a great location! The hotel is directly opposite the train station to the airport, as well as beside the metro & trams to other parts of Helsinki. It's within walking distance to many food options, shopping, cafes & more. The room was very spacious, comfortable and the breakfast was wonderful as well. The staff were friendly and helpful to answer any questions I had. Would gladly stay here again the next time I'm in Helsinki!

I reserved the 2 double beds with the 3rd bed option for my stay. The room had a "courtyard view" (i.e., overlooking the mall); it was quiet, spacious, spotless, had a nice sitting area, and the bathroom featured a deep soaking tub. Other room amenities included a mini fridge, coffee maker, safe, iron & board, desk, and generous clothing storage. I was not given a bathrobe or slippers - perhaps my room wasn't of that class? I didn't ask for them, either, as it simply wasn't that important to me, but YMMV. The breakfast was a bit chaotic during the weekend, but that isn't unusual. There were many options for vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free, as well as the usual fare. The sauna was delightful. If the opening hours were extended (earlier, later, or both) and morning hours were available for weekdays, I'd have used it more than I did. The hotel itself was very nice, looked well-maintained, and was clean. The staff were wonderful from check-in to check-out, and I appreciate that they extended my checkout time without fuss when I inquired, especially given that my request was last-minute. Proximity to Helsingin päärautatieasema was important as well. I didn't eat at Restaurant 10. Kerros, but Casa Largo was wonderful. Hesburger was wonderful as always; S-Market was a huge bonus, as was their huge assortment of Long Drink. Overall, my stay was excellent, and I would stay here again in the future. Kiitos!
