Hostel stay

My first time staying in a hostel and it wasn’t too bad. You obviously get what you pay for. If you’re looking for mod cons and an ultra cool hotel or something luxurious, this won’t be for you. However, if you want a nice cheap place to get your head down in a fairly good location then it’s Perfect. No real problems as I knew what I was getting when staying here, the only real issue I had were the noise of some kind of generator and the bed is extremely uncomfortable. That’s the only complaints I had.

Nice hostel

This is a nice hostel. I had a private room and was satisfied with the cleanliness and comfort. However, there was a constant bad smell emanating from the bathroom drain. I spoke with reception and was offered another room which was smaller and I declined. Upon request, I was given a can of room spray to help with the odor. It worked somewhat, but the smell still lingered. I got used to it, and it wasn't a huge problem. The pool, although small, is great, and the temperature is perfect. There is a kitchen area with everything need to prepare a meal and to keep things cold in the refrigerator. A hot kettle in the room is handy for instant coffee in the morning (which they provide) and to make instant soups and noodles. . The location is very good, located close to Komtar and the bus station. There is a free local bus for the central area, and it was great to be able to hop on and off to see the sights of Georgetown. The staff was helpful, friendly, and respectful. I would definitely stay there again.

Noisy downstair No toiletries

People partying downstairs until midnight. At our first night, people partying, jamming, singing, talking, laughing, shouting downstairs. But 2nd night, no more, 3rd night, party again.... One thing quite sad is no toiletries, only toilet paper available.

Good location

Encountered problem with checkin. It took a while for them to locate my booking. Turned out that my booking was under Expedia which I was unaware of. As the aircon of room i was supposed to stay in was spoilt, they kindly upgraded my room. So I had comfortable stay. Excellent location close to bus interchange and also Chowrasta market.

Great Location!

They let me come in early and hang out before my check-in time. Service was great. I had a private room and it was clean and functional with a working A/C. I did notice some bugs come out at night when I put an ice cream wrapper on the night table. They promptly disappeared when I threw it out. Other than that, wifi was good, place was clean and functional. Perfect location in the city. Close to the Komtar and on the hop on hop off bus service. 5 min walk to everything. Enjoyed my stay there.

The location is a bit difficult to find. Had to call the hotel few times to ask where i can park my car, but the hotel staff is very nice to answer and give direction clearly. The hotel is so nice! We had a surprise for my friend bcoz shes getting married.

My Stay At Wassup Youth Hostel

This is my fourth time staying at the hostel. The last time was 2 years ago and I really enjoyed my stay. Over the years, they have upgraded the facilities in the hostel and seems to be building up their brand. But when they started to upgrade the hostel facilities they neglected the room facilities are most essential to travellers. I was given room 115 and my window is below the staircase to level 2. The room cleanliness was at the worst state. The bedsheet was dirty, there was different hair of different lengths on the floor, the air con was leaking and the water pressure was terrible. On day 2, I requested for housekeeping. When I reached the hostel at night, my room was not tidy up and a new towel was left on my bed. The rubbish was still lying there and the toilet floor was still wet. I went down to the reception and was told that the housekeeping staff has left. On day 3, I decided not to ask for housekeeping and when reached the hostel at night the room was tidy up. The staff was no longer friendly except for the Chinese girl in glasses and I think she is one of the old staff I met 2 years ago. The rest of the counter staff has no smile, no greeting. I am disappointed and will not patronize the hostel again. Sorry Wassup Youth Hostel, you have failed me.

Friendly staff, great location, reasonable price.

I had to book Wassup Youth Hostel at the last moment and didn't have time to do much research into the hotel. As it turned out, this hotel was at the most convenient location to all of the malls and shopping on Penang Island. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the bus station, so you can conveniently go to anywhere on the island. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and spoke good English. Everything in the hotel was kept reasonably clean. Compared to three other hotels at the same price, this hotel was the cleanest, rooms were spacious, and was the most conveniently located. For anyone looking for convenience at a very reasonable price, I highly recommend this hotel. It also has a small spa swimming pool which most of the hotels in this area don't have. A real gem.
