Escalante Casita with Breathtaking Views
The SaltBrush Casita is an art-filled retreat tucked beneath cliffs less than a half mile from the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Enjoy comfort, breathtaking scenery, and solitude within a five-minute drive to Escalante town.
Completed in 2025 and built around a great room with a soaring 18-foot ceiling, the home blends seamlessly with the native landscape. The great room’s plush sofa and comfortable armchairs are arranged around enormous windows framing the National Monument and the red cliffs of Boulder Mountain.
A spiral staircase takes you to the open loft. With a full-height ceiling and its own bank of huge windows, the loft provides panoramic views of the Monument and our famous high-desert landscape. Sleep beneath soft cotton sheets in its comfortable queen bed. There’s also a closet for your clothing and gear.
The main-floor bedroom has a cozy queen bed with soft cotton bedding, its own heat and air conditioning, and a designer ceiling fan overhead. Wake up to the morning sun climbing the cliffs rising directly behind the house.
The full kitchen is stocked with everything you’ll need to prepare meals when not dining out. The kitchen has quartz counters, fridge, dining table, and stainless steel appliances, including a range, microwave, and dishwasher. We also provide a Nespresso machine with coffee pods, tea kettle and tea, French press, toaster, cutlery, cooking utensils, stainless steel cookware, and barbecue tools. Spices, oils, vinegars, and sugar are in the cupboard. We even provide some snacks and cold beverages. Dine on stoneware made by Brett, the owner and an Escalante potter who has a studio on the property.
The full bathroom is a great place to clean up after a day exploring. The bathroom has a bathtub, shower, Toto bidet, plush cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, hair dryer, full-size washer and dryer, and laundry detergent.
In the warmer months, enjoy the private outdoor shower beneath the cliffs. With hot and cold water, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and designer lighting, shower al fresco while enjoying the amazing views of the landscape or nighttime sky.
The Casita’s shaded patio is nestled next to giant boulders at the base of the cliffs. Relax in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the warmth of the hammered-steel propane fire pit while dinner cooks on the Weber grill.
The SaltBrush Casita is 740 square-feet and has heat, air conditioning, WIFI, HD smart TV, ceiling fans, key pad for self check-in, and a 240 volt power outlet (NEMA 14-50R) for charging an electric vehicle. The queen sleeper sofa in the great room can accommodate a fifth guest. Outside the front door there is a Nest doorbell that can record external audio/video and be used to communicate.
Utah has the highest concentration of certified International Dark Sky Parks and Communities in the world. Whether you’re a stargazer or night-sky photographer, SaltBrush Casita is the ideal place to experience the starscape. During the day, explore our eight acres with its small slot canyon and an abundance of wild flowers and grasses, Utah Juniper, piñon, and other native flora.
Perfectly situated, the SaltBrush Casita is the ideal base for your adventure. With colors transitioning through yellows, oranges, and reds, the Escalante area has some of the most uniquely beautiful landscape in the world. Away from the huge crowds, its slot canyons and sandstone cliffs often feel undiscovered.
At the Saltbush Casita, you can hike from the front door or take a short walk to see ancestral puebloan structures. The Grand Staircase-Escalante Visitor Center is less than five miles away, as is the Petrified Forest State Park. We’re also close to scenic Highway 12, designated one of the country’s All American Roads. It stretches among Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome Basin, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Escalante, Boulder, Dixie National Forest, and Capitol Reef National Park. If you’re visiting the Magnificent Five, Escalante is a great basecamp. And if you want a change from the sculpted desert landscape, drive or cycle from the Casita to the top of Boulder Mountain, which is just 13 miles away. You will be greeted by pine forests, cool air, and small lakes where you can birdwatch or fly fish.
While pets aren’t allowed, our jackrabbits and resident Kit Fox are welcome, provided they stay off the furniture.
The vacation home is air-conditioned and features a kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, and a patio, and there's space to spread out with 2 bedrooms. Guests can enjoy a Smart TV and stay connected with free WiFi. The bathroom offers hair dryers and bidets. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a coffee maker, and a dining table.

My family and I loved staying here. My 6 year old daughter said it was “her favorite place we have stayed” and we’ve stayed in some pretty nice places. Kitchen is well stocked for cooking needs, the location of the casita is perfect, and no detail was spared in the design and decor. I really loved the small touches of all of the dinnerware and artwork being made and done by the owner himself! We spent hours just exploring behind the casita climbing rocks and the cool little slot canyon. We will definitely be back!!

We absolutely loved everything about our stay at Brett’s place in Escalante. This was our stop to visit Bryce and Capital Reef before moving on to Moab. We loved the clean, modern decor, thoughtful snacks and drinks to welcome our arrival and the whole experience was just what we needed. We loved how peaceful the surroundings were yet easy drive into town for necessities. This home was very comfortable and relaxing. Wish we could’ve stayed here longer. This place was incredible! From the serene surroundings to the delightful interior everything was simply perfect. We loved the layout and brightness of this house as well as all the special touches; gorgeous hand made pottery, beer and water in the refrigerator, snacks on the counter, crocks to wear inside, espresso machine with pods, tea, spices, soft towels, super comfortable beds, laundry with soap ( awesome since we were hot and sweaty from our daily hikes in the Grand staircase National Monument), high quality soap and shower products, and an awesome outdoor firepit to relax by and gaze at the night sky! Super easy access to town and the park but far enough outside to enjoy the peace and quiet and outstanding views as you watch the sun set and rise each day. You’ll absolutely LOVE this place!

My stay here was INCREDIBLE! Honestly wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I was lucky to get out of town and head to Escalante with a friend. The casita is gorgeous and was spotless upon arrival. We cooked a couple times, having the full kitchen was a life saver. The host was really friendly and responsive! We had such an amazing time. Will definitely recommend this to friends/family and would stay here again. Cannot recommend enough!

Clean, well-furnished/equipped modern house in a stunning location. The property description is perfectly accurate - the casita is relatively compact at 740 sq ft., and the second bedroom is a loft overlooking the main living area. And it's gorgeous, with big picture windows, very comfortable furniture and bedding, excellent wifi and air-conditioning, and very functional kitchen and bathroom. It worked well for our group of 3 friends, and would be ideal for a family or one or two couples. Snacks and drinks were thoughtfully provided for our stay, and Brett's artistic touches, including his own stoneware, create a wonderful ambience to the place. If you are looking for "isolated but not remote" this is the ideal place - seemingly in the middle of nowhere but just 10 minutes from the coffee shops and restaurants of Escalante, and within relatively easy reach of the amazing scenery Bryce Canyon NP, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Capitol Reef NP, and the "Hole in the Rock" road. We loved our stay!

Beautiful property, incredible hosts, great views, midpoint to two National Parks and surrounded by just a small portion of the breathtaking Grand Staircase/Escalante BLM Monument. Unexpectedly had to change plans last minute and glad we found this beautiful place. The hosts captured everything that made the space feel like home. The tasteful decor humbly allows the breathtaking views remain the focal point.

The house was lovely and Brett's dishes/pottery were great. If you get the chance to go to Devil's Garden, don't let the gravel road deter you.And when you get back to the house you can relax until it gets dark. You will see as many stars as you have likely ever seen.
