Condé Nast pick: 1840 Greek Revival - Walk to Harbor, Viking Kitchen, Fireplaces

Steps from Camden Harbor.
A historic home above the village.
A place to settle in — and stay awhile.

Camden is one of the rare Maine towns where the mountains meet the sea and the village still turns toward a working harbor. From High Street, a day can move easily between the village, the water, and the trails of Camden Hills, then end back at a house made for being together. Schooner sails in summer, color across the hills in autumn, ocean-view skiing in winter, and the village waking again in spring give each season its own rhythm.

What sets the house apart:
✦ Condé Nast Traveler top pick — named "Best for harbor access" in its guide to the best Airbnbs in Maine
✦ Walkable village location — Camden Harbor, restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and the waterfront library amphitheater are all a short stroll away
✦ Historic High Street address — an 1840 Greek Revival in Camden's National Register–listed High Street Historic District, with original pocket doors, tall windows, and fine millwork
✦ Four bedrooms and 2.5 baths — sleeps eight, with room to gather and room to retreat
✦ Two working fireplaces — with firewood, kindling, and long matches provided
✦ Private parking for three cars — a genuine luxury this close to downtown Camden
✦ Four-season base — minutes from Mount Battie, Camden Hills State Park, Megunticook Lake, and the ocean-view Camden Snow Bowl

A few things we’ve chosen carefully:
✦ Welcome muffins from Union St. Sourdough, a small Camden cottage bakery
✦ A Breville espresso machine and Moccamaster, with coffee, milk, and sugar for the first morning
✦ A kitchen meant for real cooking: Viking range, stainless and cast-iron cookware, sharp knives, a Vitamix, pantry basics, and dinnerware for eight
✦ Crisp hotel-quality linens, layered pillows, plush towels, and Malin+Goetz bath products
✦ A Solo Stove fire pit, gas grill, and outdoor dining on the back terrace
✦ Four bicycles and helmets for warmer-weather stays
✦ Books meant to be read, board games that have been played, children’s toys, and lawn games
✦ Fast Wi-Fi, a study with a door, and a Smart TV for evenings at home
✦ Our own guide to the bakeries, bookstores, restaurants, trails, swimming spots, and harbor walks we return to ourselves

We hope to make your stay feel easy: someone has already thought about the first morning, the rainy afternoon, and the dinner cooked at home.

The House
Historic details and modern comfort sit easily together at Three Sisters House. Original pocket doors, tall windows, millwork, and fireplaces reflect the home’s 1840 heritage, while thoughtful updates bring ease throughout.

The layout balances connection and privacy: generous gathering spaces downstairs and four bedrooms upstairs. Outside, the private grounds include a patio and fire pit for autumn afternoons and evenings under the trees.

This is a house for unhurried mornings, long dinners, books carried from one room to another, and evenings when staying in becomes part of the plan.

Gathering Spaces
The main living room is generous and light-filled, with large original windows and a working fireplace for long conversations or an evening after dinner in town.

The sunroom greets the morning in coastal light—the place for early coffee before the village wakes. A separate study offers a more private corner for reading, remote work, or an afternoon with a book.

The Kitchen & Dining Room
Anchored by a Viking range, the kitchen is equipped for everything from a quick breakfast to a celebratory dinner: premium stainless-steel and cast-iron cookware, a Breville espresso machine, a Moccamaster, a Vitamix, and elegant dinnerware and stemware.

The separate dining room seats eight and is made for long meals, board games after dark, and slow weekend breakfasts.

Bedrooms & Baths
Four thoughtfully appointed bedrooms sleep eight comfortably, all on the second floor:
• Bedroom 1 — King bed
• Bedroom 2 — Queen bed
• Bedroom 3 — Queen bed
• Bedroom 4 — Queen bed

Two full bathrooms and a first-floor powder room provide ease for mornings and evenings alike.

One thing worth knowing before you book: all four bedrooms are upstairs, there is no ground-floor bedroom, and the home's original 1840 staircases are steeper than those in a modern house. Please keep this in mind for young children or anyone with mobility limitations.

Throughout the home, you’ll find:
• Hotel-quality linens and layered pillows
• Supportive premium mattresses
• Generous plush bath towels
• Malin + Goetz bath amenities

Good to Know
• Two working fireplaces
• Outdoor fire pit
• Four bikes available for guest use, weather permitting
• Washer and dryer
• Window air-conditioning units in every bedroom and the main living areas
• Fast Wi-Fi and a dedicated workspace in the study
• Self check-in via smart lock
• Well-behaved pets welcome

If you’re looking for the most charming house in Maine, you’ve found it! The house itself was wonderful but there were so many thoughtful touches as well. Fresh blueberry muffins when we arrived, robes in every room, firewood for evening fires, actually nice shampoo and soaps, a book detailing where to eat and what to do etc. probably one of the best rentals I’ve stayed in. The location was great for walking into town and the town itself was everything I wanted in a quaint Maine getaway. We had all the amenities we needed and more. I agree with others that the stairs are a bit precarious for someone not stable on their feet so older travelers beware. But that’s expected in an historic home like this. Other than that it was a perfect stay!

Great historic home. All beds were very comfortable, lots of indoor and outdoor games to play. Kitchen was stocked with any spice or appliance you might need. Living room is very comfortable and the outside area is beautiful with several seating areas. Owner is very responsive. Property is an easy walk to downtown Camden. The towels and sheets are high quality and very soft. We were welcomed with fresh blueberry muffins which were delicious! Would definitely recommend. Just one note. All bedrooms are upstairs and the stairs are very steep so I would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues.
