iFLY Indoor Skydiving: If you get a kick out of riding the Dumbo ride at Disney World, then imagine the adrenaline rush from this simulated skydiving experience. Brave souls as young as 3 years old can suit up and ride a wave of air that mimics the feeling of jumping out of a plane, minus the risk.

Orlando Science Center: Four floors of hands-on exhibit galleries offer hours of educational fun. Watch a Science Live! program, catch a nature film or current blockbuster on the 3D screen, and return at night to peek through the telescope in the museum’s Crosby Observatory. Who needs Animatronics when you have natural wonders?

Madame Tussauds: To see stars of a different kind, head to this wax wonderland that’s full of celebrity sightings. At the Orlando location, you can rub elbows with everyone from Jimmy Fallon and Oprah to Selena Gomez and Prince William. Post a selfie and fake out your friends.

Crayola Experience: Color us excited about this kid-friendly destination where your family can easily spend three or four hours. Among the 26 hands-on attractions: Paint a project, name and wrap your own crayon, or let off steam on the indoor playground. The Crayola Experience is located inside the Florida Mall, so there’s plenty of other kid-friendly activities such as Build-a-Bear Workshop, the American Girl store, the mall’s play area and more.

Entertaining kids is a tall order but a visit to Ripley’s can help. | Flickr photo courtesy of Smart Destinations

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium: This aptly named attraction is filled with oddities you won’t see anywhere else. Gape at real shrunken heads. Be astounded by visual illusions. Take a photo next to the likeness of the world’s tallest man. And definitely leave plenty of time to explore the gift shop.

During inclement weather, the only water you’ll want to see is at SeaLife Aquarium.

Sea Life Orlando Aquarium: So your SeaWorld plans are washed up. All is not lost. This indoor aquarium is brimming with marine life—many endangered or rescued. Find Nemo, watch a dive show and walk through the 360-degree tunnel that puts you in the center of the action without getting wet.

AMC Dine-In Disney Springs: Let’s not overthink this. Disney World has a movie theater. Ride your hotel shuttle to Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney), and settle into a comfy chair for a flick and full-service dining. Mercifully, the theater includes MacGuffins Bar. Because after entertaining kids under less-than-optimal conditions, you deserve an adult beverage. Cheers!
