A nice stay and good value

Ascot House is lovely and walkable to the heart of York. The breakfast is abundant and convenient, and the beds are comfortable. However, the room was cramped for a family of four, as there was little space for luggage or to put things.

Warts and all...

It is a nice old family owned/run place. The extreme heat doesn't help in an old brick building. But i was never told about construction and put on the top floor/attic is tough. Breakfast was very good, flexible in a lovely period piece location. The street is noisy with buses and no AC. The top floor is very difficult (steep and narrow) so take note.

Really nice, traditional guest house, loved everything about it, except for the fact that dogs are allowed in the dining room. I cannot understand why people can’t be without their “little darling” for 15 minutes and why they think it’s ok to subject other guests to their dog in an area where food is consumed.

Ascot House, highly recommended

Very pleased with our visit to Ascot House. The owner was very friendly and informative. The room was lovely,the bed and bedding excellent and the bathroom was superb. The breakfast each day was very tasty and the food cooked to order. The location was also excellent. Just over 10 minutes walk into York and a bus stop just down the road. Car park at Ascot House available but sometimes full. However parking allowed on side road so no problem.

Comfortable, clean and loaded with character.

We both fell in love with this beautiful Victorian house and its wonderful landlady. We were made very welcome and given a map of York together with an explanation about the Bars and Gates. Our room was imaculate and boasted a modern shower room, with plenty of towels. There was plenty to chose from for breakfast, but we both opted for the Full English (of course) locally sourced sausage and bacon. There is a car park, but i can't remember seeing a lift. We're already planning a return visit.
