Shangri-La Hotel, Wuhan5.0 out of 5.0

There were too many people compliment about their hotel and service. So I will not go in details on that. The hotel is great as well as the service. But what moves me is not only their service, but their kind understanding. Shout out and kudos to Ms Julie and Ms Margaret which you can find them both at the restaurant area. Ms Julie is extremely attentive towards my request on "borrowing" their freezer to freeze my breastmilk while Ms Margaret actually spend her 15 minutes to help me wrap up my breastmilk to check in during my flight. Among other hotels that I stayed in Wuhan city, Shangri-La is the ONLY hotel that provide service for me to freeze my breastmilk. Wonder why I can't store it in the fridge in my hotel room? Its because the temperature is warmer than our regular fridge at our home. Hence a freezer is needed or multiple refill of ice and salt needed. No doubt on this hotel and its stars rating because the service speaks for itself. The room is not as spacious as other hotels I stayed in(thou all are economical range), the toiletries range were not many compared to others etc. BUT you can't doubt their top notch service from the moment you reach their door step. Not exaggerating but their bellboy service is great. I have way too many luggage, approx 8-9 pieces and I desperately needed a luggage cart where I can push it straight to my room. The bellboy told me all the cart and will look one for me a.s.a.p. Well guess what? He came with one after 3 minutes of waiting outside. He helped me load and unload them with ease without me worrying anything at all. Thank you so much Shangri-La team. The reason my review deserves a 5 stars for them because no matter how much flaws one hotel have, Shangri-La did their best to help their customers not because customers are always right but they strive to improve their hotels daily. I enjoyed their service because even 1 piece of luggage bag, they will still approach you to help you eventhough they know you're capable to handle it yourself. Did I mention that their food range in the restaurant were great? I go ga-ga over it. Not that it is best and the tastiest but they have way too many food to try on. I love their porridge the most as its really, delicious. And their cakes/buns for sell? They taste delicious too. Nope, the price is certainly worth and I would say, cheaper compared to the ones sold in my own country's bakery shop.
This is a wonderful hotel. I was made to feel welcome from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. Staff could not have been kinder or more attentive. The rooms are beautiful with sophisticated lighting, a large screen TV, excellent desk space for working and the bathrooms are excellent. The food here is of a very high standard and the lobby area is more than inviting.
I went for business to Wuhan and counted myself lucky to have gotten a very good rate for the Shangri-La. It quickly became clear that this facility is a more localized B version of the normally quite plush and high quality hotel chain. Rooms are nice but seem to miss the lovely touches (stationary, good quality toiletries, nicely stocked mini bar) of other Shangri-Las I stayed at. Breakfast is catering to local taste. My impression got solidified when during check-out a group of guest started arguing in the lobby, which ended in a scuffle. A scene I might expect at the local train station but not in the usually serene lobby area of a classy 5 star hotel.
The hotel is what may expect of Shangri La. Reasonably good location. However Wuhan is building their Subway system and that always causes little disturbance. We took a regular room and received an upgrade to executive floor for a very reasonable fee. Very convenient for breakfast, afternoon tea, happy hour or just to sit quietly and read a paper.
The bed was comfortable enough for a business traveller who just arrived from a 2 hours car ride from Huangshi. The Chinese restaurant "Shang Palace" at the ground floor level also served decent Wuhan delicacies. Surrounding the hotel lies a park, as well as many delicious Wuhan food to try out. We went there for breakfast since breakfast at the hotel was not complimentary.
Various things are not really up to scratch on this property, especially given the generally perceived high quality of Shangri-la properties. Firstly check-in was very slow to complete. The lobby area feels quite cheap and not in keeping with the brand. Bath was shallow and quite badly chipped. Otherwise the room was not too large for China. Good nights sleep overall. What was particularly annoying was I put my shoes out to be polished, having been told 20 minutes, and it took over 35 minutes to be returned and numerous calls. It meant I was late for my first meeting that morning.
Wuhan is the province capital for Hubei Province and one of the fast developing city with tons of skyscrapers and modern infrastructure but don't forget to book at Shangrila, it has the most scenic view of the city and beautifully done. Enjoy the fresh sea food!
I stayed at Shangrila while attending a gala event with my friend and my experience was awesome. The food was delicious, services was pleasant and the atmosphere was relaxing. I invited a friend to join me for a drink at the lobby lounge but he spent the evening admiring the hotel decor. I will recommend the breakfast pancake as it's the best I have had in China so far. I hope to return there whenever I visit Wuhan.
The first thing that shangri-la has going on its location, its in hankou and the metro is just 5 mins walk from the hotel. It is also not too deep in hankou that it is far from the hanstreet and on a good day one can walk to wuhan tiandi. The staff at the hotel is very friendly and the main staff speaks english quite fairly which makes life so much easier. I am a regular at shangri-la and Cafe Wu has greatly surprised me during this stay, the food is so much better, the pan cake which is available during breakfast is amazing and there is a good balance of asian and western dishes. The Horizon Club offers an awesome cocktail hour with very good light foods and the in-room dining service is also great. The rooms are quite clean and the presence of english channels on TV makes one at least keep up with world affairs. The indoor pool is a great feature especially in crappy wuhan winter. or heavy pollution days. A little more effort is required to communicate with the potters as there can be some misunderstandings caused by languange and at times they can come off a bit unfriendly.
We stayed at Shangri-La Hotel with our 3 kids for a Charity Gala... And what a stay it was! Just awesome from start to end! We arrived in our 2 bedroom apartment and the extra bed was already installed in the room. For once in China we did not have to beg for it!!! The apartment was very spacious and well equipped. The bedding is excellent. The rooms are pleasantly quiet which is very nice in the middle of the city. The Shangri-La management and staff did a wonderful job for the gala. The dinner was excellent with delicious food and a flawless organisation. They managed to serve 180 people, on time, with the food at the right temperature and smiling! Congratulations and a big Thank You to Shangri-La hotel! It is too bad we did not have time to enjoy the pool and a massage! Next time!
