Malecón House

If you are staying in Esperanza, great place!

Friends decided to have their wedding in Esperanza. They were staying at the Malecon hotel so I did too. After the wedding reception the guests went in the water right in front of the hotel. Not the best idea. It's very rocky and folks emerged from the water with cuts and splinter like objects in their feet. We moved to the hotel swimming pool. It poured down rain. It was a great time! When we got out of the pool the hotel staff had dry towels ready for us. The rain was so hard it knocked the power out. The generator kicked in and life was good. Turns out a few places in Esperanza didn't have generators. We did! The hotel is conveniently located to several great restaurants we could walk to for great breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

Ocean Pearl Inn

Fantastic Beach Hotel

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights. It is located right on Plaza Azul beach. It is a small hotel, but it is great. There are 2 parking spots inside the gates, then there is street parking for overflow. We parked on the street for a night and our car was very safe. It is not a busy street. The hotel staff is great, we were welcomed warmly and given great recommendations about things to do in the area. It is a nice hotel to stay at if you want to visit the El Yunque Rainforest, we were only a 15-20 minute drive away. The rooms were very clean and the bed was amazing. The water pressure in the shower was great. There was not a TV, so if that was important to you look elsewhere, though we never missed it.

Enjoyed our stay - clean, nice rooms. Well-maintained, quiet, calm. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice pool. However, Bar and Restaurant are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Pro tips from our travel blog: Everything you need to know for a perfectly rewarding trip to Vieques Island

Heading to Vieques

Orbitz.com can help you find Vieques hotels that allow you to gain a taste of life on this Puerto Rican island municipality. The island offers stunning, panoramic ocean views, fun outdoor activities, and an opportunity for you to completely destress.

Esperanza

Esperanza is a beautiful area located on the south side of Vieques. It’s considered the touristy side of the island. From many different spots, you’ll be able to experience jaw-dropping views of the Caribbean Sea and spectacular sunsets. Visitors to this part of Vieques come to relax, so come with the knowledge that the area’s pace is slow and easy. Walk along the beach in the morning as you watch the local fishermen head out to sea. There are quite a few local artists selling beautiful works of art, so buying some of their pieces is a great way to support the local economy. Check out the Museo de Esperanza, a small museum run by the Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust. You’ll get to learn about all of the ecological advances the island has adopted. You’ll also learn about the indigenous people who inhabited the island hundreds of years ago.

In the evening, enjoy a delectable meal at El Quenepo restaurant. The menu is described as local cuisine mixed with heavy Asian influences. You’ll be able to sample culinary delights like shrimp and lobster mofunfo and pumpkin gnocchi. Stay the night at the popular Esperanza Inn. You can choose from a selection of apartments and rooms at this laid-back, casual hotel. The rooms are spacious, spotless and comfortable. The hotel is within a stone’s throw of the area’s shops and restaurants. Rates start at $115 per night for a casita. Contact the hotel at 787-741-2225 for more information.

Isabel Segunda

Isabel Segunda, also known as Isabel II, is the other main section of Vieques and is located at the island’s northern end. Most of the island’s residents live here, and Vieques’s main shopping district is located here. For spectacular views of the island and the sea, visit the Punta Mulas Lighthouse, a stunning, lovingly restored lighthouse that was built in 1895 and renovated in 1992. The lighthouse offers a birds-eye view of the Vieques ferry arriving and departing, the eastern side of St. Thomas and the shoreline of mainland Puerto Rico.

Stop for a bite at El Patio Restaurant. The eatery serves local, Latin and Argentinian cuisine. Meat lovers will enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth steaks, and the staff boasts that it serves the best rice and beans on the island. When you’re ready to call it a night, treat yourself to a stay at the W Retreat & Spa. This lovely, secluded resort has many top-of-the-line amenities, including a luxurious spa, a two-level swimming pool and two private beaches. The fully wired rooms are decorated with all of the high-end touches you’d expect from a W hotel, including sumptuous linens, deep soaking tubs and the W Munchie Box. Accommodations start at $360 per night for a tropical oasis room. The hotel can be reached at 787-741-4100.
