Esperanza is a beautiful area located on the south side of Vieques. It’s considered the touristy side of the island. Isabel Segunda, also known as Isabel II, is the other main section of Vieques and is located at the island’s northern end. Most of the island’s residents live here, and Vieques’s main shopping district is located here. For spectacular views of the island and the sea, visit the Punta Mulas Lighthouse, a stunning, lovingly restored lighthouse that was built in 1895 and renovated in 1992. The lighthouse offers a birds-eye view of the Vieques ferry arriving and departing, the eastern side of St. Thomas and the shoreline of mainland Puerto Rico.
Stop for a bite at El Patio Restaurant. The eatery serves local, Latin and Argentinian cuisine. Meat lovers will enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth steaks, and the staff boasts that it serves the best rice and beans on the island.
