My husband and I were on vacation heading to New Mexico when we had an unexpected mishap with our Air B&B. We were leary about what we would find on such short notice. (Same Day) I came across El Capitan and the photos looked promising. Much to our surprise the pictures didn't do it justice. This hidden gem was a much needed blessing. If we are ever in the area again, El Capitan is definitely where we will be staying. Cozy room and friendly staff.

This historic hotel is intriguing with an interesting back story which is displayed on a desk placard in each room. The furnishings are beautiful and are either original or restored as they once were. Modern enhancements made everything in the room very comfortable. The double doors to the outdoor patio were a special addition we enjoyed. It was a shimmering oasis in a long desert drive for us.

Nice little room— clean and bed comfortable. Food and atmosphere in the restaurant was excellent. Will stay again in the way back home.

Parking limited. We had to wait on a place. We will ask for a better plan next time.

The whole property was amazing. The room, the building, the restaurant, i didnt want to leave.

Have never seen a hotel room this small and run down. Could barely fit the suitcases in the room. Bathroom was the size of a closet. Mattresses had the shape of a hammock. Walls are so thing you can hear the people in the neighboring room talk. I get the ‘historical’ aspect of this place (downstairs and restaurants look very nice) but this is not acceptable for today’s traveler in my opinion. The hotel rooms need a very serious facelift.

Convenient location, attentive staff, clean and restaurant on premises. This was our second time staying here and we will return.

It is old but remodeled to make it modern but still has that old time feel and look. Dining room had great food and the server was very good and friendly. Definitely a taste of the past from the 1930’s.

This hotel delivered what I had hoped. It was built in 1930 and has been a landmark since that time. It is not your standard hotel. It has lots of character and just had a good feel to it. It is not modern or cold, it is antiquy and warm. The room is small and the bathroom was smaller, but it was just fine. It was clean. The staff was great and the bed was very comfortable. I had a great night's sleep after having a nice meal in the hotel restaurant/bar. I recommend the Pistacio coated steak with jalapeno cream gravy and mashed potatoes! I will definitely be going back there. Recommended!

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you had a bad experience. The rooms are smaller than the average hotel, especially the room you stayed in, unfortunately. That room was recently converted into a double queen to accommodate losing one of our doubles due to construction, but it is too tight and we will be converting it back to a single. We are happy to say we are remodeling rooms for a more modern face lift. I apologize again for your bad experience, but we hope you give us another opportunity! The hotel has many different suites and larger rooms available. Call us directly for more options. Thank you for your business, we appreciate you!
