The original hotel is a lovely art nouveau building, where breakfast is taken. However rooms all seem to be in the new block next to it. Pluses are: good location, comfy beds, well appointed bathroom and pleasant staff. Minuses are: decor is very tired; our room was next to a car park and you could hear cars coming and going and no safety deposit box in room.
I have reviewed this place before, but thought I should add something after my most recent stay. If you are going during the school holidays don't stay here unless you have small children. I felt quite out of place trying to eat breakfast as the dining room was full of families with small kids going to Muminland. The noise and general chaos was really something to behold. I will try to find somewhere else for that reason next time I go if it is that time of the year. We had a nice big room which seemed comfortable enough, but I was woken in the night by a loud mechanical noise which I thought was a street sweeper outside. When I got up to go to the toilet I realised the noise was coming from inside the hotel. It must have been the air conditioning system which really was far too loud. I haven't noticed this problem before so it must have been our particular room.
We only stayed for one night, so we hardly stayed in the hotel for sleeping. The location was excellent, exactly in the center of Turku. The hotel has parking, just across the hotel, which is quite convenient. The room was clean, the bed was big enough and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small but good enough. It even had a bathtub. We were a bit suspicious of the noise, as we had a room exactly in front of the elevator, but it was not specially noisy. The hotel had sauna and small swimming pool that was closed when we wanted to try it (it was late in the evening). I took a look to the gym, that was far to small to be consider as a gym. The breakfast was alright, nothing special, but the area was a bit small and was difficult to find a table. We hardly had interaction with the service except for check in and out, so it was alright. We didn´t have any problem.
Hotel is in great location, that´s why we chose it. But, the breakfast was total chaos. Too many people trying to fit in too little breakfast room. All the seats were reserved, and we had to wait quite some time. When we finally found free seats, we couldn´t use the table, since it was full of used dishes. Same was with every tables in the restaurant. And then the place was out of cups and plates. We had to drink our coffee from paper cups. There was just not enough stuff to handle all the dishes etc. Poorly managed.
I stay in Hamburger Bors with my family and service was excactly same as year before. The location of hotel is good if you want to hang around the center of Turku. Rooms are little bit old so you can see wear and tear. Building have only two elevators so prepare to wait the elevator some time. Also there is service is not well organized, so when you go to breakfast tables are not clean from old dishes, cups, plates, etc. are finished as well as food. The staff seem not fix these issues proactively, so allocate time and patience to get service done.
Fantastic Hotel! This hotel is one of the most historic hotel locations in the city right on the main town square. The staff were always friendly, and when we talked to them about the initial issues we had with our stay they went above and beyond to make our stay the most memorable experience of our trip to Finland! Nobody is perfect all the time, and the sign of true service is making things right when mistakes are made. The staff at the Sokos Hotel, especially Katja in the reception were really attentive and made sure we were well taken care of as soon as we simply talked to them about our initial issues in a friendly manner. I will definitely come back to the Sokos Original Hamburger Börs hotel next time I am in Turku/Åbo. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Vilhelm Edgren
I don't know why, but there's something I love in this hotel. Old building with many different rooms. Lot's of restaurants, shopping and nightlife right there when you walk out the door. Best location in this town.
Having had a good experience on our earlier stays, we decided to stay at this hotel one more time. This time we stayed here for one night only. The check-in was smooth and staff at reception was warm and friendly. After a tiring visit to Stockholm we decided to spend the afternoon in the room resting. The afternoon almost got spoiled by some noise from air condition duct. The receptionist immediately moved us to another room without making a big deal of the situation. The servicemen and receptionists made sure that the other room did not have similar problems. The room & bathroom were clean and had all the usual amenities (no coffee/tea maker though). The air-condition worked well. The final room we got had window facing the market square. The view was nice and there was no noise from the street. The breakfast was abundant. We went to breakfast little late and had to postpone our lunch til late in the afternoon. I have already written a review about this hotel for our earlier stay. But I had to write another one about this very positive experience. I highly recommend this 120 year old hotel with history!!
Right next to the market square, in the middle of town. Nice room and a comfy bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Had our conference here as well as the lunch. If I had to complain about something it would be that the room temperature was a little too warm for me.
Rooms are clean and tidy, good location-in the middle of Turku-,excellent breakfast,I spent 2 nights there, rooms are quite if are not to the street view.I didn't try the swimming pool or sauna...maybe next time
