Stayed for one night for business. Location is great being close to CBD and Palmer St restaurant strip. Has car parking which is also handy Got put in a 2 bedroom suite. Rooms (particularly bathrooms) are starting to tire and need some maintenance work Windows were locked which was really annoying as I much prefer fresh air to conditioned air and the temperature in Townsville in May is quite pleasant. Reception area was clean and presented well, although they were painting a new retail tenancy and the smell of paint was throughout reception. Might be unpleasant to some. Worth trying.
Staff not very friendly. Honestly felt like we were bother them if we had a question. No above and beyond. Hot tub, cold. No plates or forks in room. Everything just felt tired. On a positive note just around the corner is a great breakfast cafe called JAM. I think this could be a 4 if they engaged there staff and attended to a few details. I'll Airbnb next time
We stayed here for one night on two occasions. Rooms very clean. Reception is more than helpful. Great location, right on the edge of Palmers Street with great restaurant at hand. Would we stay here again? Definately.
We stayed at this hotel for a week the staff was friendly and polite. My complaint is basically about the smell inside the hotel, it was cheesy. The bed wasn't comfy at all, it's was "king size" but you can completely feel the middle of the 2 single beds. Internet was very slow and stopped working and they couldn't fix it without any refund. Our bedroom faced the palmer st. Not a great view. I suggest to the oaks franchise to invest a bit more of money to upgrade it.
Have been spending some time in Townsville for work and these apartments are great. Located on Palmer St, there are plenty of dining options and a short stroll across the bridge to Cowboys Leagues Club. From the units overlooking Ross Creek and the city, you can spot the occasional crocodile. Units are well equipped and comfortable. I have stayed in the hotel rooms and the self contained rooms, obviously the self contained rooms are better equipped. Wifi is free for 30 minutes in a 24 hr period. Reception staff are friendly and helpful. Only gripe has been Oaks' messages posted in the lift over Easter passing off reduced level of service over the weekend as a positive customer experience. (More likely not wanting to pay penalty rates) I have posted a photo of the message. I have friends staying in other oaks apartments that have similar messages. This does not really add to the customer experience. There is another Oaks complex on Palmer St, so make sure you turn up to the right one
Room clean but acoustics terrible. We wee woken Good Friday morning at 6am by other guests going in and out and in and out etc if their room amid doors shutting loudly. Not only loudly but easy to hear in rooms. Oh and can hear people walking in the floor above Afternoon checkin staff pretty surly. We had specifically asked for an upper floor room but on querying our low level room were told "sorry nothing available" rather impatiently. Maybe the car but handle it better.
Stayed at this establishment 19-24 February. Requested a late check out as due to the steamy weather, needed a shower before I boarded a plane. No such luck - full board for an extra couple of hours. I will be revisiting Townsville another 2 times for a week on each occasion as will another with which I do business. We travel around the country for government related business. Whilst the front of house staff were terrific, not the same could be said for the back of house who were intangible. I have previously stayed at other Oakes establishments. For the sake of 3 hours for a shower, I or my business associate who works for a company with over 10,000 employees, will never stay at an Oakes hotel ever again.
Beautiful, big room overlooking the city. Close to restaurants, shops, the strand & movies. Pool was nice too. Also had a gym. Service was good. Only downside was the price $150 per night & the tv was tiny.
Nice apartment block in a good location. However I hate having to have confrontation with the staff from the start. After 6 hours drive entering my room, was not the river view high floor booked. Granted high floor is not always available, but second floor view of air conditioners really. I returned to reception to be advised no other rooms available. If I would like to talk to the manager, would this get me the room I booked, No. I returned to my room to receive a call to advise a room had become available on the 8th floor with a view of the river. The room I had booked. Pleasant stay, would I stay again? No. I will stay at the accommodation I usually stay at where the room I book is the room I get. No problems.
Really good serviced apartment, comfortable bed , good bathroom, nice balcony with views and small kitchen area. Nicely located with some parkland and river walks on one side of the hotel and the other side on the main street with bars and restaurants. Easy check in, luggage storage and helpful receptionists
