Copthorne Hotel Grand Central New Plymouth4.0 out of 5.0

This hotel is well overdue for a makeover the decor looks and feels decades old. The room was however comfortable but the live band playing some 60 meters away made it difficult to sleep. During my stay, the busiest week of the year in New Plymouth (new year) where accommodation is at a premium the hotel restaurant was open only for breakfast so guests had to make other arrangements for lunch and dinner despite the hotel booked to capacity.
Room: average. Price: average. Facilities: average. Free wifi: dodgy. Sleep: non-existent. Okay, it's centrally located, which is good for access to "stuff". But the downside is that you get every dick in the area hooning past the place - constantly. If you're interested in getting any sleep then definitely look elsewhere. And watch out for the free wifi. I got a bunch of unusual security warnings in such a short time that I disconnected within about 2 minutes. On the plus side, they managed to squeeze us in at late notice and for a reasonable price, so that's a positive. Room was a bit tired looking, but did have a spa bath. Breakfast not included though which is why the price is "reasonable" rather than "good".
Not the best Copthorne hotel that we’ve stayed in but does what it says on the tin. Good location for the city, museums and waterfront. Clean rooms, nice cotton bedding and helpful staff. Free toiletries and tea and coffee facilities in the room. We had the executive suite which sounds much grander than it is. Just has a separate room with a sofa in. The rooms are adequately furnished. The bar was closed during our stay which was a shame as it looked nice. Not a bad place to use as a base and great to be able to park on site.
What an awesome 3 days. The room was spacious and very clean. Great location and walking distance to all shops and parks. Ocean view was great. New Plymouth is such an amazing part of the country, great scenic walks and so much to do. Can’t wait to go back. Great staff makes this stay a very memorable experience and I recommend to all travellers a +++👍👌😊😁
My second time for work in New Plymouth had me staying in the Corpthorne Central Hotel. There was freeing parking for my rental car. Note that there are limited spaces. The check in was easy and friendly. I was in a standard room with a Queen/King size bed. Very comfortable and clean. The room had the standard facilities like TV (sky), mini fridge, spa bath etc. This room had a desk and some comfortable sitting chairs which was very nice. The gym was ok. A bit more than a home gym but not quite as many things as I've come to find in a hotel chain. I ordered room service a bit before 8pm as I was out exploring the centre city as there was a Hot Rod convention on. The nice person advised that it was a 40 min wait which I didnt mind as it gave me a chance to shower and change. The water pressure was fantastic. My dinner when it arrived was hot, yummy and filling. I had a good night sleep in the bed without hearing any outside noise. I went down for breakfast and it was very nice. They don't have a hot food buffet, just a cold food one. You order your hot breakfast and they make it for you. Overall a nice place for an overnight work trip.
We had a superior room which was clean and tidy with a nice view of the ocean in the distance. Bathroom was clean but probably in need of a paint and re-fresh but overall a nice room. Unfortunately what could have been a good stay was completely ruined by the very very loud band music playing one street over from 11pm to 2pm, making any sleep impossible. This is obviously an ongoing issue as the room had been retro fitted with double glazing but it didn't help at all. Will never stay here again because of the noise.
The property looks a little dated on the exterior but do not let this deter you. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable, relatively quiet and the staff pleasant and helpful. There is a bar and restaurant within the hotel with good value meals and drinks. On site parking can be a bit of an issue if you do not get in early enough but there is plenty of on street parking close by. A good place to stay if in New Plymouth.
Enjoyed the large room, which was lovely and light. Big comfy bed, and a great bath. Bit of a rabbit warren to the find the breakfast buffet but I got there. Efiicient reception staff and parking close by.
Welcoming staff upon arrival and showed me through the maze of corridors to get to my room. Room was reasonable, bathroom in my room was generous. Wifi was good for teh time I was there. Outlook from my room was of the back of surrounding buildings and a carpark so wasnt terribly interesting. Bed was comfortable and air con worked well so had a reasonable sleep. Left early in the morning and night staff were friendly and helpful.
I had a lovely stay at this older hotel. The room was confortable, the bathroom had a spa bath and the hot water in the shower was instant and forceful. It took a little while to get the sky TV going but I followed the insructons in the welcome folder and got it first pop. It also took a little navigating to get around to the cafe but once orientated everything was fine. I must say the receptionist was very helpful. I loved the free wi fi. Our dinner in the cafe was delicious. The steak melted in the mouth and the dessert with black doris plum ice cream was wonderful. I also loved the porridge and poached eggs at breakfast.
