Did not receive the key code by the time I left for my trip and was unable to check in because there was no staff there, the door was locked, and when my local driver called the phone number related to the property there was no answer. Was forced to book another hotel on the fly which also turned out to be a nightmare. Currently in dispute to have my money refunded.

Staff was very courteous, the place was really clean. Only improvement, the front door key to the building went missing, they should include the front door key with every unit. Lastly, the wifi went down the last two days, with no assitance of putting it back on

Surf Ranch Tamarindo was an amazing experience. The attention from the ladies who take care of the cleaning and breakfast is truly unique — their dedication and willingness to help with anything you need is surprising in the best way, something you don’t see very often. The manager was also very kind, and the explanation of the check-in process was clear and perfect. Breakfast time is so friendly and cozy that it feels less like a hotel and more like staying in a family home. The location is perfect, right in front of the ocean. Tamarindo is already beautiful, but this place makes it even more special.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience because there are so many unfairly negative ones out there. I paid roughly $40 a night, and for that price, this place exceeded my expectations. The rooms were clean and sanitary, and the location is hard to beat—literally right across the street from the beach. Breakfast was included and was a traditional Costa Rican gallo pinto with a cup of excellent coffee, which was a great way to start the day. Nothing fancy, just authentic and satisfying. This is not a luxury resort, but it’s also not trying to be. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, straightforward place near the beach, this is a solid option. Based on my stay, it absolutely deserves 5 stars for value.

Stayed here for 3 nights in late April. Make sure to contact the property by email before arriving to get the check in details as there is no reception onsite and booking sites will sometimes not let messages go through! The owner will respond usually pretty fast by email. Great location and affordable for Tamarindo where you can cross the street and be in the ocean in under a few minutes! Cleaning lady was really nice and puts out coffee, tea, and some fruit in the morning. Small walk to downtown so you don't have the crazy noise of people from there, but you will be near the Crazy Monkey club if that's your vibe on a Friday night. We got unlucky with a high water pressure noise issue coming from the property behind us when in the back rooms of 3 and 6, making crazy sounds all day and night - luckily it subsided after the 1st night/day. Also, if in those rooms, the wifi will not reach you - would recommend a mesh network or reposition the router.

This property needs to be taken off the Internet. It just has too many issues. No wifi, bugs, and no staff 24 hour help. The property needs a makeover. Rooms dated and need paint to clean linens with no stains. Shower curtains are old and touch you while showering. The cafe that is advertised is never opened. The wifi is terrible sometimes it's on and most of the time is not working. No place to hang wet items. It's just not fair to have a place listed you pay for and holas tons of cockroaches and even a skunk on the property. The towels are old. I just want a refund this place ruined my trip my comfort.

Breakfast is traditional Costa Rican..near the beach which was nice. Rooms are without office and you may have to wait for a code.. we were lucky to have help from some regular guests that were familiar with the process. Door was hard to open and rooms are very small. Wifi dont work in the rooms just in the common area. A step up from a hostel.

Fantastic spot. The gal who owns it was wonderful. Outdoor shower and coffee were a nice bonus. They have laundry service too which was awesome to get a refresh on clothes. Definitely recommend!
