Just got back from our stay at this boutique hotel and couldn't wait to write this review. Great check-in/ check-out experience, excellent staff, great travel tips from the helpful concierge and attention to detail throughout the hotel with regards to the ambience. Perfect for both families and business travel. Can't wait to get back to Taipei and stay here again!
Check in was fast though the check in counter is at level 5 which might cause confusion. Loved the free slippers provided. Additional services provided was that the laundry washer and dryer at level 6 is free for use with detergent and softener provided. Very much services oriented and helpful staff. Breakfast was a wide selection. Sound proof of the rooms was not as good though. There are handicap friendly rooms and a plus point is that all rooms are non-smoking rooms(for non-smoker). But this also means all the smokers are gathered at level 1 when you have to walk through them before reaching the lift unless you cut through the shopping mall. Negative point is the lightings is either bright or very dim. So if you want to off the light for a child to sleep yet do a bit of work, you can't. Hotel is a distance from the mrt which if rainy and with toddlers, it does poise inconvenience. Else it's a great hotel to stay in.
I stayed in the balcony room of the Amba for about a week. Loved the location of the hotel; despite being in the centre of XImending it provides a perfect refuge from the busy streets. The Amba cafe outside the hotel is a lovely spot. I stayed in the balcony room and found it very comfortable and spacious. Also stayed two nights in a loft room which I also found to be comfortable and spacious. Can't comment on other room types. The bed was excellent. Be aware the hotel caters more for Chinese speaking guests, but most of the staff speak very good English. The service the staff provided was exceptional. They were very keen to help with any request I had and bent over backwards to please. Must mention the manager who personally ensured I had a pleasant stay. Very nice chap. The only improvement I would suggest is room service. I was advised by staff that breakfast room service was not available. Overall really enjoyed my stay and would return. If you want something a little different from the Grand Hyatt/Sheraton style hotel experience, I would recommend this place.
I stayed for a night here after my work trip in Taipei. Basic room with basic cleanliness. Bathroom/toilet are split up good for people sharing the room as one can use the shower and the other can use the vanity side. I felt the bed was of good support as the one at W Taipei gave me backache.. It's at a good location where you are at the midst of happenings at Ximending. Not good for people if you are looking for more quiet hotels. It is join to a shopping mall hence checking in is on level 5 and lifts are tucked at side. Hence no space for car/taxi and they can only park at roadside while you struggle with luggages if you have many... Nothing to shout about the room neither is there anything to whine about just a basic hotel with good location. Price (S$200) is on the high side perhaps due to my last minute booking..
The room is actually very basic and for the this type of room is slightly pricey. The breakfast got eggs selection, bread, porridge soya bean cereal and of course the fruits and beverage section. (Which you have to extra pay for it or prebook during you book your hotel) Location is direct in ximending and next to it is a shopping mall. Which is a new mall.
After looking at a lot of hotels in the Ximending area, we decided to book this hotel for our trip. As it was only my sister and I, we booked a medium twin room and we were very satisfied with the size of the room. The beds were huge and could have easily slept my entire family (mum, dad and 3 kids). Also, I liked that the toilet, shower and even the sink were in separate areas so it had more defined spaces. And everything ended with "ba" i.e. "duba" (read), "kanba" (see), "saoba" (literally means "sweep" on the signage to clean room) "wenba" (ask - for the reception) "chiba" (eat - for the restaurant). So I thought that was pretty cute! The reception and concierge staff were friendly and we also enjoyed a drink at the hotel bar. The only thing is that I wish it were nearer to the MRT station, but having said that, it's only about 10 minutes walk away, and there are plenty to see along the way. There is also a mall adjoining the hotel and Starbucks and McDonald's just downstairs. We would not mind to stay here again and would also recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Taipei.
location good, room is clean and tidy wiv comfortable bed! would like to thanks Max Jem (Concierge dept) for the great service him provided to us! he shows his patience and hospitality when recommending places and helped us to make dinner reservation! Would surely come back again!
After a lot of research my sister and I decided to stay here at Amba Ximending for our 5 day and 4 night trip in Taipei. The lobby is beautiful and quite quirky and modern and the room was extremely spacious with two very large comfortable beds - we booked the medium twin room. The linen was also clean and the amenities provided were very good. While it would not be considered a luxury hotel Amba Ximending provided excellent service with polite and very helpful reception staff who could speak English quite well. The location was the best part as the hotel is situated in quite a happening part of town, but not right on the street so customers are not exposed to the noise from the street, which can get quite loud, particularly on the weekend nights. The hotel is also only located about a 10 minute walk away from the MRT so it was very convenient to walk from the MRT to the hotel on our check in and to walk back to the MRT to connect to the Airport line. The price was also quite reasonable, with NTD 13720 for four nights (without breakfast) I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Taipei!
I give this place a solid FIVE for the value, location, and service. It is not considered a 'five star' hotel (like a Four Seasons, Ritz, etc.) but it is very nice. I'd say it is a modern boutique in an awesome location (I may say that over and over again, because I am totally hooked on this place). Trying to find it is a bit weird...the lobby is on the 5th floor of a department store. Just ask around where people are hanging or find the elevators. Once checked it, you'll have peace of mind because the floors need a hotel key to get to the floors. The bar is very simple but elegant. Not a hang out place, but a nice quiet retreat if you need to escape from the rush of Taipei . The breakfast bar was only so-o. I'd save the money and just get food from the carts outside. The front desk was very friendly and their English was very adequate. The concierge helped us navigate to a few other choice places. When you get off the Blue/Green Line at Ximen (exit 6) it is about a 7 minute walk to the hotel. Lots of fun night life with great street food and western establishments too. Very clean area for the most part. The rooms were clean, simple and comfortable. We got a room on the "inside" ring so there was no street noise and it still let in natural light in! I cannot wait to go back! BTW: We took the MRT to Taipei Main to the express train to TPE. WOW...fast, efficient and cheap!!!
My second stay here. Lots to do in Ximen, and the Amba is in the heart of it. Wonderful service, pleasant food, and modern design. The staff here are very helpful and have made us feel welcome. We'll be back.
