This hotel looks like it could be a 5 star but falls short on basics. Currently staying here in April, outside temperature is 14 degrees C, each room has a thermostat but you can't actually control the temperature of the room with it! Called the front desk and they said the central air was set on 25 and no matter what temp you set the thermostat the air does not blow cooler than 25. Couldn't sleep all night so called in the morning and they sent someone from maintenance to open the one small window which could not be opened or closed by guests. To get any airflow, now the curtains need to stay wide open which lets the light in. It was 29 degrees last week, I wonder what those guests did to adjust the temperature below 25? What good is a hotel room if you can't sleep comfortably?? Front desk doesn't speak basic english, not a problem for me since I can communicate in Chinese, but would be for someone that does not speak Chinese. Rooms were big and pretty clean. Breakfast buffet had a great variety, but again missed the mark in basics: coffee was cold, had to spit out the donut it was so stale and dry, buffet items were luke warm since all the covers were wide open with guests and staff leaving them that way - closed a row of 7 by myself. Depending on the occasion I stay at all ranges of hotels in China from 1 to 5 star. When a hotel advertises itself and charges 5 star rates it needs to do better than a this. A hot room, warm food, cold coffee, freezing lobby - need to fix the basics.
I had to be in Suzhou for business and stayed at the Kempinski Hotel Suzhou. Great hotel, it was super busy. Rooms are spacious, certain views are just amazing. Service is attentive, gym is nicely equipped. WiFi works well too.
Stayed one night on 16th floor with fantastic view of the lake. Clean room with all amenities. Shower good temperature but had to get the knack to control hot, cold, spray and rainshower which took some trial and error. Beds very comfortable with soft snuggle up linen conducive to a good rest. Breakfast 3rd floor great variety and excellent griund coffee. Staff extremely friendly and helpful, and front desk staff extremely swift in quich check in and check out. See you next time in Suzhou.
Just back to here again. The whole period of the stay was just fine. The property was a little far away from the attractions, and no public transportation services nearby, like metro and buses, comparing other brands, such as Hyatt and Inter Continental. Anyway, I consider the property better than some other Kempinski properties in China, such as K-Shenyang, One Executives Suites at Shanghai. Thank you, Kempinski Suzhou.
I only had a short stay, but I was impressed. very spacious rooms, with stunning view. The lakes & the golf course are turning this into a real resort. Some downsides: the check in check out process takes a whole lot of time...
Check in was horrendous- people pushing past trying to get the staff attention- no concept of queueing- neither did the staff insist that as I had been waiting longer I should be seen first. Once seen they then didn't know how to use the credit card machine (insisting I use a Chinese bank card as they didn't accept international (really, Kempinski?). Fortunately, I do have one, but they advised me as it was a debit card, that I wouldn't be able to use room service, which wasn't really a problem, but they were just so downright rude about it. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, so you can use the restaurant if you don't fancy a taxi ride (and the taxi drivers in Suzhou, like most Chinese cities, have no idea where they're going, or how to drive a car, for that matter). The staff in the restaurant were ok, but it was just so crowded, and the choice, understandably, was for Chinese guests, rather than international, so I didn't fancy much of what was on offer (although a good chance to try Chinese food). Rooms are a bit, well, tatty, and if they could just spare a repairman for about an hour, it would make a big difference (wonky light fittings, curtains not closing properly, bathroom in need of a deep clean). The lake setting is quite stunning however, and well worth venturing out to see. The hotel is fine, but don't expect anything special-it has no attention to detail, and the staff need to be trained on how to welcome guests. This falls well short of what a 5* standard hotel should be.
Spent a weekend in the hotel with family and friends in hot summer. Plus + Absolutely fantastic location - sits in a secluded area between Jinji and Dushu Lake + Very generously spaced room for family with kid(s), especially the bathroom + Full of indoor/outdoor activities for kids - pool, playgrounds, garden by the lake for a nice walk to name a few + Paulaner brewery in the building for a nice and relaxed drink + Free give-away candies in the lobby made quite a day for the kids Minus - Mediocre services - but I will give them the benefit of doubt - maybe its just too packed in summer break - Lobby looked miserable with all the construction works (set up for some sort of conference I guess but shouldn't it take place behind the scene?). I liked the hotel and its location for vacation. But details should have been given way more attention.
Just a one night stay while passing thru on business. We were warmly greeted at the door, front desk check-in was quick and professional. Room had all of the necessary requirements for a traveling businessman. View from the room was striking WiFi connection did not require password Great breakfast then back on the road
The Kempinski Hotel is a beautiful hotel situated next to a lake, but quite far from town. It has a sense of luxury as we walked in. We booked a room with large bed, and the bed was really large and comfortable. The breakfast at the coffee house had lots of selection and was great. We had dinner at Paulaner and thoroughly enjoyed it too! Highly recommended! On the second night, the room smelt smoky (even though we had requested for non-smoking room), so I requested for a ioniser. I think either they don't have it or they didn't understand me. She came with air freshener and opened the window to air the room. It was a mistake as we were bitten by mosquitos! We didn't think that mosquitoes would come up to the 12th floor! Bad mistake!
The view from the room is stunning to the big lake, sometimes even with sail boats. Large rooms, well equipped, big bathroom. Only you hear pretty much everything what happens in the hallway. Don't miss out the Paulaner Beergarden and a stroll at the Lake Front.
