The Downtown Hotel

The place was cleanly, staff were nice, the AC was the best part of the room. Only issue was that the tv did not work and when I tried calling the concierge the phone was disconnected (I checked to see if it was plugged into the jac and it was). The hotel is in the center of everything (not many places to go in the downtown sq foot is small). Across the hotel are bakeries and along side of the hotel people are selling fruits. Coffee is served in the morning and is about a 2 minute walk to the water front. People don't seem to swim there. There are also local bars around the hotel.

I stayed at this hotel in March 2017 and the accommodation were horrible. Too many stairs to begin with and that was not indicated anywhere on line. The tub is the room is not clean and the maids do a very poor job of cleaning the bathroom as well as the room. The did not even take time out to fix the comforters on the bed, it was just covered and looked like someone was sleeping under the covers. The towels looked like the are hand washed and smell terrible, plus no wash rags were provided. Ants were in the room also. So much more to say, but no enough time. I was originally born in Soufriere but would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I will confess, I was not impressed by Rodney Bay. It was commercial and sanitised and Downtown Hotel was the perfect antidote to that. In the heart of the friendly community that is Soufriere this is a welcomed dose what real life in the caribbean is like, but with the pleasantries of still being a holiday destination Rooms are a bit tired but good value for money. This is not the ritz.....but if you want the ritz go to London.

It is not possible to find a more central accomodation in Soufrière than the Downtown Hotel, which uses the upper floors of a not very big mall, the Excelsior Plaza. When arriving there we had to carry our suitcases up two floors to the reception and then another floor to the rooms. There is no elevator in the hotel and there was nobody around to help us. When at reception we waited for at least 15 minutes for somebody to show up and this only because a young man, who suddenly was around, said that he would go and look for the receptionist. When in the room, which was of a pleasant size and with a great sea view, we soon discovered that many things were missing. We told so the lady-receptionist and she brought us everything, which hadn't been here before: chairs (plastic) for the balcony; reading lamps by the bed; more clothes hangers; hand towels; a comforter for the bed. The room had a fridge, an electric kettle, tea and coffee making facilities. In the bathroom there is liquid soap by the washbasin and a gel-dispenser at the shower (no shampoo). Being in a central location one is not far from a super-market and from restaurants. The bed was good and there are enough drawers to put things away. Reception was most of the time not occupied, we also saw a security man only a few times during our stay. On the other hand we were never harassed in Soufrière, except on the day of departure, when a completely drunk man was standing in the hallway near our room and started insulting us (because we were whites).

The hotel is on the 3rd floor of the Excelsior Plaza. Great internet svc, and very large rooms. Staff were very accommodating. No elevator, and too many steps to walk up to get to the rooms. A/C wasn't working in the first room, so I was moved to another room where the A/C worked fine. Outdated furniture, roaches, and ants in room. Mattresses needs changing. Microwave wasn't working. Damaged bathroom door knob. Mildew in showers. Stained toilet bowls. Phone service off after 9 or 10pm . Only 1 transformer per room for 110 electrical power. Overall, the hotel accommodations were lowsy, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Downtown Hotel, as indicated by its name, is in downtown Soufreire. The Hotel is close to public transit, a supermarket (which sells alcohol), public transportation, a small beach, and several restaurants within easy walking distance. Visitors choosing to stay in Soufreire should be aware that few tourists spend the night there. Most visit the area for the day and return to their resorts in the evening. That said, the area is safe, clean (if rundown), and the locals were friendly. A firm no was enough to discourage any solicitations for various goods and services. The hotel staff was courteous and helpful. The room was spacious, clean, but bare bones. The hotel reception is located on the third floor and the rooms on the fourth floor. This is a walk up hotel. THERE IS NO ELEVATOR. The bottom sheet on our very firm king sized bed would not stay in place and I usually woke up on a partially bare mattress. For many, the view may be enough to outweigh the steps to get there.

This hotel is right in the main square in soufriere. We had the city view room. Great balcony views of the mountains behind soufriere. Room was big, two fairly comfy queen beds, ac, fridge, microwave and kettle. Tub was a little high to get into but other then that a perfect spot for the price. The host was very friendly showing us the room and telling us where all the good places to eat were near by. Would recommend.

This is a budget hotel compared to some in the area but the price reflects what you get. Massive room, the bathroom is a bit basic but lovely shower and hot water in abundance. Fridge and AC worked fine and lovely balcony to chill on. We moved here from a place up the hill and were much happier right in the thick of things in the centre of town. Good supermarket just round the corner and plenty of bars and places to eat. No complaints!!

This hotel is a perfect place to sleep. We spent exactly 8 hours every day in our room because we were so busy exploring the island, scuba diving and hiking. It's in a super convenient location. The city is very safe... maybe the friendliest people, as a whole, we've ever met. It's easy to walk to different restaurants or take a water taxi to anywhere on the island. The staff was attentive/accommodating and the rooms were kept very clean. We were given a new towel each day and the beds were made each night when we returned. Bonus: no bugs! If you're looking for a luxury hotel that you want to spend all of your time in, spend 5-10 times more $$$ and stay at a resort. If you want a clean room, a bed, AC, and a bathroom (everything you need), stay here. :)

We booked a week long stay at The Downtown Hotel and wished we spent the extra money on a nicer hotel or resort. Our first impression was not great, as the room did not match the picture and the view from our room also looked much better in the picture. The toilet does not work properly and after each use we had to manually fix it ourselves by removing the back cover. We were given two towels (one towel each) for the whole week and they were never washed or changed, nor were the sheets. Our bed also didn't have a blanket but once we asked for one they were very accommodating. Overall, we tried to make the best during our stay but wished this hotel was a little nicer and offered more. There are a few good restaurants walking distance from the hotel. Our favorite was inside the Hummingbird Resort which is about a ten minute walk. Petite Peak and Pier 28 are also great places to get food and very close. The locals are so welcoming and we enjoyed our time in Soufriere.
