The experience was exceptional. The staff were wonderful, very friendly, very helpful and really made you feel welcome . An extra special thank you to Lecia Vigier, great personallity made our stay even more enjoyable. The food was great. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to our friends.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at Fond Doux. The environment is stunning. From the verandah of our cottage, the Banana Tree, at the edge of the estate, we had a great view of the rain forest (especially of the rain which was spectacular - umbrellas are provided!). The cottage was comfortable and spacious and we could find no fault with the accommodation. The staff were unfailingly helpful, cheerful and friendly as were the very pleasant owners Eroline and Lyton. We would make special mention of the chef, Gilda; of our very efficient cleaner, Magdalene; of lovely Lecia who helped serve us dinner; and of young Shyne who provided us with an informative and very knowledgeable tour of the gardens. But we would praise all the staff and there are many more I would mention if I knew their names, especially the young man who helped up to our car with our bags when we left - always smiling and cheery! We ate well at breakfast time and each evening at dinner. One slightly less favourable comment could be that the dinner menu didn't change which was fine for three evenings as there was enough variety, just, to make the meals sufficiently interesting. I'm not sure if it would have been the same had we stayed longer. However, the quality of the ingredients and of the cooking and service was good. This is not a cheap option but certainly not as dear as some and good value for what you get considering how expensive the island is and how much it must cost to run the estate. So all in all we were very pleased to spend some of our time at Fond Doux during our first visit to St Lucia.
We are a family of 4 with girls age 12 and 14. All of us thoroughly enjoyed Fond Doux! Best part of it was the awesome staff from the owner to our guide (Shyne) to chef, restaurant staff (Lecia and all!), and just about everyone there. Even other guests were nice, and we greeted every morning and night sharing precious experience. If you want quiet, there are lots of spaces to yourselves as well. Restaurants were great and decently priced (compared to over-infrared prices at other restaurants in Soufriere). Breakfast (included) offered a variety of tasteful food every morning, prepared with real fruit and organic vegetables they grow in the garden. Definitely take the plantation tour and join Zumba on Mon, Wed, Fri evenings. Sessions come with wonderful local experience after exercise. Accommodation is charming and spacious cottage tastefully decorated with genuine furniture, art and fabric. We recommend Fond Doux to anyone looking for true St. Lucian experience and serenity unless you are looking for luxurious 5-star accommodation. Other recommendation: Feel Good Water Taxi & Tours (758-485-4015). Cornell (he is the driver for Fond Doux's pick-up/drop-off services from the airport) for taxi and rental car; his brother Daniel for boat trips and snorkeling. They are both really nice, and prices are negotiable. (We do not recommend driving in St. Lucia by yourself. Steel hills, many potholes, narrow winding roads on cliffs with no guardrails, etc.) Cornell gave us useful information about St. Lucia; Daniel took us to "VERY GOOD" snorkeling points upon our requests. Beaches - We liked Anse Chastanet better than Sugar Beach, but try both!
As other reviews have stated, if you want a resort feel this is not the place for you but if you want a truly authentic feel this is a great place to stay. Each and every one of the staff said hello and asked how our day was or what our plans were for the day. We stayed in the Bamboo cottage for 4 nights and loved it. We spent a lot of time on the porch of our cottage reading and lounging in the hammock. We also had the pools (there are 3 small pools) to ourselves both days we visited them. No TV but wifi worked great. We enjoyed the outdoor shower. Would recommend putting screens on all the windows so that there was more opportunity for a cross breeze but the fan worked well and the rain forest evenings were perfect for us as we love the natural noises of the outdoors (they provide ear plugs if you desire them). They were wonderful at helping us arrange a taxi to Jade Mountain & make lunch reservations for us as well as a ride to the Tete Paul Nature trail. Everyone was fantastic and we couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. Try this if you want the best of all worlds in St. Lucia!
We needed a real break from work and life's business. The beauty and family feeling of Fond Doux was ideal. We climbed Gros Piton with another couple staying at FondDoux, enjoyed the sulphur springs and mud bath, walked Tet Paul, and Fond Doux's own piton-view trail and revelled in the plants and wildlife around our delightful cottage. The hammock was relaxing and the bed comfortable. We loved the outdoor shower. All staff were charming and we were particularly pampered by the lovely Lecia.
We spent 6 nights in Papaya Cottage and loved it! The cottage was perfect, clean and private, tucked into the hillside. Loved the outdoor shower. The people at Fond Doux were the best part. We were greeted and felt welcomed by every employee. We received excellent service from Lecia, Antonio and Dennis who did much of our driving. Although the resort is not on the beach, there is a lot to do in the area. Shuttle to and from the beach was convenient. Will definitely return!
I had a wonderful time at the resort. The staff was wonderfully helpful and amicable. The restaurants serve healthy and regional food and fruit. Peaceful, hospitable and well worth the price. The only drawback: it has no direct access to the sea, so you have to be shuttled to the beach.
My husband and I spend 5 nights at Fond Doux and it was absolutely glorious. The days started with a yummy breakfast buffet, filled with all kinds of fruits, breakfast meats, omlets, etc. Each day we did an excursion - hiking Gros Piton, Enbas Saut Rainforest, Tet Paul, the beautiful nearby beaches - and landed back at Fond Doux in the afternoon to enjoy our exquisite cottage - pungent pool, outdoor shower, gorgeous desk overlooking tropical paradise. We dined at the Bamboo Restaurant each night also - delicious! Gilda is a fantastic cook. One night she even made us a special meal out of the "crops" we harvested on our Rainforest hike with Mango, a terrifically fun guide who brought us to his own farm at the end of the trip. Two of the evenings there was live music at night in the restaurant, and leave it to Leisia to get everyone up dancing! The staff were all so warm and friendly - easily the nicest part of the experience. We'd go back in a minute!
We enjoyed a 5 night getaway to St Lucia Apr 2016. I'm behind on reviewing but still appreciated the concept. We stayed in one of the cottages along the lower walkways so did not get much of a breeze through. Loved the nature trail overlooking the Pitons, and walked up for sunset most nights. They were updating the trail and continuing it along the hillside. Breakfast was wonderful with fresh fruit and juice. Meals on sight were ok but we did walk to other places to expand our options. Staff were friendly and helpful.
My wife and I stayed at Fond Doux for five nights and had an enjoyable time. When we first arrived after traveling for 12 hours, we were given some delicious fruit punch at Reception and taken to our Angelina cottage where we were welcomed with a fruit basket and rose petals. Everyone we came in contact with who worked at Fond Doux was warm and friendly. When eating our breakfast or dinner, the restaurant staff (Celia, Skita, and everyone else) would come by and chat with us and ask us about ourselves and how we were enjoying our trip. I was surprised how well the staff remembered our names. The drivers would tell us about the area, and the one who picked us up at the airport (Vienne, hope I spelled that right) had some cold water bottles for us. When my wife was a little late to her massage because we took longer than anticipated hiking the Gros Piton and we were pushing up against the time of day the massage therapist needed to leave for the day, the Fond Doux staff's attitude was basically 'No problem, we will make it happen.' Much appreciated! The food at Fond Doux was very good, and our understanding is all the fruits and vegetables come right from the plantation. The complimentary breakfast had what we thought a large variety of delicious fruits, french toast, pancakes, rolls, fish, etc. and someone was there every day to make eggs. We never ate lunch there because were always away from the resort at lunch time, but we had dinner almost every night at the Bamboo Restaurant. The menu had three or four main course choices, and they would keep the same ones for a few days at a time; while some other guests complained about this one night we were there, it did not bother us. We enjoyed everything we ate; total cost after 10% and gratuity ran from about $50-70 USD per dinner for two people. The ambiance was a lot of fun in this open-air restaurant, and there was live music a couple nights we were there. The cottages, while a bit rustic, were clean and spacious. The one we stayed in, the Angelina Villa, was around 200 years old. If you are looking for ultra-modern, 5-star type accommodations Fond Doux is probably not a good fit for you. The WiFi is free and reliable and we especially enjoyed the porch including hammock and porch chairs. Being in a rainforest, the wildlife and insects get very loud at night, but Fond Doux provides earplugs to help block out the noise. Our cottage didn't have air conditioning, and I don't believe the others do either, but with the windows open and ceiling fan we were comfortable enough at night. The resort has a couple of swimming pools on two different levels, and we relaxed there at some point almost every day. We usually had one of the pools to ourselves. We didn't rent a car but got around just fine taking the airport shuttle and taxis. Fond Doux has drivers on staff who can take you places and pick you up again, which we found convenient, and the prices they charged seemed comparable with general taxis. The individuals working at reception (Krista, Shareline, and Liz) were helpful in arranging this for us, and they were also very responsive to our questions via email before our trip. We enjoyed our stay at Fond Doux and would definitely stay there again.
