Escape to Helm Haven, a coastal retreat for 14. Our home features 3 King BRs, 1 Queen BR, & a bunk room and is by a private, community beach. Relax in spacious living & dining rooms with bay views. Bring out your inner child in the game room with arcade games, air hockey, & rock climbing. Cuddle up in the movie room w/ our 100” screen and popcorn machine or deck for outdoor dining & fire pit. Lots of amenities: 3 kayaks, beach chairs/toys/umbrella, Coffee/Tea, Giant Jenga, corn hole, & more.

After traveling with our three young kids (6, 3, 3) and experiencing the challenges firsthand, we were inspired to create Helm Haven, a space designed for 14 guests to delight both kids and grown-ups, ensuring everyone makes memories for a lifetime. Whether you are on a family vacation or a couple’s retreat, Helm Haven offers everything you need for an unforgettable getaway!

Bedrooms:

Experience the best of bay views in our stunning home, featuring 3 King Bedrooms (two with their own private bath), 1 Queen Bedroom, and a fun-filled bunk room that accommodates six guests, with twin over twin bunks for two guests and full over full bunks for an additional four guests (no more than 250 lbs of combined weight on top bunk please).

Private Community Beach & Shark Tooth Hunting:

Just a short stroll away, discover our private community beach for endless bay adventures by kayak provided by us, shark tooth hunting, and swimming. For planning purposes, please note that there are stairs with about 20 steps that take you to the beach. The shallow waters near the shore provide an environment for you to play, wade, and splash without the strong currents and undertow that an ocean beach may have. We also have sandbars just offshore, which create natural pools where you can explore and observe marine life like crabs and small fish. On the beach, search for shark’s teeth from prehistoric sharks that lived in the Chesapeake Bay.

* Guests should be aware that there are jellyfish in the Chesapeake Bay in the summer (typically July and August but can be as early as June and late as early September if it’s very hot and dry). They like warm, salty waters so their numbers vary with the rain and tides. Sometimes, there aren’t many jellyfish, depending on time of day or current, but other times there are a lot. And if it has recently rained, they get pushed out to sea and there are none. It is out of our control and really luck of the draw. We recommend to our guests to bring sting-protective sunscreen (available on Amazon) and long sleeve and swim pant swimwear. *

Living Room & Kitchen (w/ complimentary coffee and tea):

Inside, unwind in the spacious living and dining areas, complete with breathtaking bay views. The living room is outfitted with a huge couch and 65” television. The dining table seats 10 and the high chairs at the kitchen island fit another 4. The kitchen is fully stocked so that you can cook as much or as little as you like and a dishwasher so someone else can clean the plates! We provide a Keurig duo coffee machine plus complimentary tea and K cups.

Game Room:

Let your inner child roam free in our exciting game room, boasting arcade games of Pacman and NFL Blitz and air hockey. It also has rock climbing, swings, an egg chair, a spinning ship wheel, and a treasure trove of boat captain, pirate, and mermaid costumes for hours of imaginative play. In garage, you will find a ping pong table!

Movie/Theater Room & Popcorn Machine:

For movie nights, our cozy movie room awaits, complete with freshly made popcorn from our movie style popcorn machine. Meanwhile, friends can gather nearby for lively rounds of poker, board games, and puzzles at our game table.

Outdoor Dining, Seating, Fire Pit, Games, & Kayaks:

Savor the flavors of summer with a BBQ feast in our outdoor dining area featuring a Weber grill, followed by fireside chats around our inviting firepit. Don’t forget to explore the bay with our 3 complimentary kayaks (and life jackets) or enjoy a friendly competition with our outdoor games like Giant Jenga, cornhole, lawn darts, kan jam, and more.

Children’s Amenities:

We saw firsthand how challenging traveling with young kids can be so we offer two pack n plays (Joovy Room2 and Graco but please your own sheets), in addition to children’s plates and utensils, plasticware, cups, bibs, a highchair, keekaroo changing pad, white noise machine, 2 pack n plays, nonslip bathtub mat, baby hiking backpack, travel blackout curtain, books, toys, puzzles, coloring, youth and child sized life vests, toddler sized camping chairs for the beach, beach toys, first aid kit, and more so parents can enjoy their vacation as much as their kids do.

Calvert County and Local Attractions:

Blessed with miles of Chesapeake Bay shoreline, Calvert County offers ample opportunities for water-based recreation, from sailing and fishing to kayaking and crabbing. Historic sites like Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum and Calvert Marine Museum (fantastic for kids!) provide glimpses into the region's past, while charming towns such as Solomons and North Beach beckon with their quaint shops, waterfront dining, and lively events. Whether exploring nature trails in Calvert Cliffs State Park or savoring fresh seafood along the Patuxent River, Calvert County captivates with its relaxed coastal atmosphere and warm hospitality.
