There was a group of 4 of us - we're moms of Flagler College students. This was our second stay at Casa DeSoto. We loved it so much the first time, we had to go back! The location is fantastic - walkable to all of downtown St. Augustine and even across the Bridge of Lions. Equally as convenient to Ice Plant, Fish Camp, and the Distillery. The neighborhood is quaint and quiet. And there's even a little lake a couple of blocks over. The house itself is the best. It's spacious and clean. Even the outdoor grill grates were spotless! There's nothing they don't provide. From the welcome bottle of wine to newspaper and firestarter for the fire pit. There's soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, beach towels, all of the kitchen amenities, tons of firewood, and so much more. The rooms are all good size and so well decorated and the beds are comfortable. The front patio is the best place for chatting with morning coffee. All of the plants make you feel like you're at a tropical resort. It's private but open enough to see the few people that walk by. The back patio is kept private with bamboo and other plants. We enjoyed a few fires in the firepit in the evenings and hung out and chatted while grilling one night. Can't say enough good things about Casa DeSoto. Even down to the conveniences like a good amount of off-street parking, easy-to-use keypad, and the check-out process isn't burdensome like many other places. Love it, love it, love it!

This was truly a 5-Star stay! The location is fantastic, and the home is truly amazing. Everything was extremely clean and ready for our stay. The home was also well equipped and had everything we needed for a great trip (soaps, tons of towels, ample driveway parking, entertainment, etc). We especially enjoyed the fire pit in the backyard on cold nights and the pool table! There was so much space to spread out, even with 6 guests. Danny and Andrea were very communicative and sent over a helpful guide to walk us through staying in the home and the area. Great walkability to the historic area and tons of bars and restaurants. The bath and body works soaps and snacks/wine upon arrival were also a great touch. We also really appreciated that the check in and check out processes were simple and easy. You won’t regret choosing this as your stay in the St Augustine area!

Awesome Casa De Soto
The property is amazing inside and out. The location is great. The inside is warm, welcoming and cozy the grounds are beautiful. Backyard is wonderful for bird watching or to just eacape the hustle and bustle of life. Even though it was only in the 60's we totally enjoed the firepit. And yes, we roasted marshmallow. (Picked them up from Creme de la Cocoa). Honestly, they have thought of everything you only need to bring your clothes and food. It was a wonderful 60th birthday surprise from my husband. It was definitely a 10 out of 10. Highly recommended

A lovely getaway
Our stay at this cute little 1920 home was wonderful. The host had the home all setup for Christmas. All of the rooms had the spirit of Christmas with cute decorations. Outside was beautifully setup with Christmas lights. All the amenities were there for you such as condiments, laundry soap, shampoo and so much more. The home is very close to downtown St. Augustine so we were able to enjoy the Christmas lights downtown. The neighborhood is very quiet. I highly recommend this host.

Family getaway
We stayed for two nights the weekend after Thanksgiving to enjoy Nights of Lights. The house was absolutely amazing. My husband and I brought along our son, daughter in-law, daughter and 2 granddaughters (4,7). The house was perfect for our family. It was very clean and stocked with everything you need. The hosts left wine and snacks as well! It was decorated beautifully for Christmas with such detail. We relaxed both nights outside by the fire after each day exploring. We actually couldn’t wait to get back to the house. It’s the perfect location with the perfect hosts! We plan on returning next year and stay longer. Thank you so much for the great experience we had!

Beautiful St. Augustine retreat
Spent two nights over 4th of July holiday. Cleanest rental house I have stayed in. Very close to historic sights. Everything within walking distance. Beautiful backyard with birds and squirrels everywhere. Beds very comfortable. I would agree with others that it's not disability friendly. Many stairs throughout the home. We all enjoyed this home very much.

Cute Rental!
We were in town for two nights for a wedding at the Lightner Museum. We were a quick two block walk away which was perfect since we were in formal wear.
The house itself was spacious enough for 4 adults. The kitchen was really well stocked with both dishes, glass wear, utensils etc. We didn't have time to actually cook in the kitchen but if we had we would've had everything we needed. We also appreciated the full size kitchen cleaning supplies and toiletries... So much better than the rentals who have a million travel size items under every sink. And the snacks and local wine were a really nice touch.
I agree with others that the "lip" at the edge of every step on the staircase and the several one, two or three step transitions between rooms/areas could be problematic for anyone with mobility issues or who are very young. Overall a really nice experience.

Lovely property but some things to note
First, the positives: Front and back yards are gorgeous, great family hang out space, plenty of wood and starter material for the fire pit. Parking is ample for a group with multiple cars. Loved bird watching. Interior: very clean and well maintained. Large well stocked kitchen, nice bathrooms and mattresses comfortable.
Cons: as someone stated in a previous review, the stairs are a safety concern and for all ages. There is about a 2.5 inch lip on the front of each stair such that footing is never flat. Also, there are 3 of these stairs that you have to go up/down to reach the master bathroom from the master bedroom. Master bath does not have a door but it is on the other side of a wall. If you are traveling with someone with mobility issues and choose to put them in the first floor bedroom, just be mindful that to get from that bedroom to a bathroom, you have to go through the foyer, dining room, pool room and a little hall to get to a bath. And the den on this floor has about a 6 inch step down. We were traveling with a 75 year old who we placed downstairs but he fell the first night not realizing there was a step down into the den. Also, the bedroom down is quite snug with no place to put a suitcase. Lastly, house rules are to use black/grey washcloths for makeup removal. None were ever provided.
Overall, we would stay here again but not with older folks.

Wonderful return stay
This was our second year in a row at Casa DeSoto, and we have already booked our return for 2025.
The house is so well conceived and maintained, that everything from my 2023 rave review hold true. This year, we particularly enjoyed the large and gracious backyard, especially with the very well stocked firewood for the large fire pit.
The location is as perfect as ever. Again, the same running joke from last year: almost everywhere we were heading could accurately be described as "around the corner." The Dog Rose, Fish Camp, Ice Plant, the bar at the Casa Monica, the Lightener, the primary venue for the Film Festival, the Blue Hen, and just around various corners.
Also, this year we rented an electric car for our two weeks and benefited from St Augustine's many free charging stations, including one on this block of DeSoto!
We can't wait to return. Thanks to the fabulous Ancient City team.

St. Augustine's best cottage
Three families: My wife and myself, my Boston daughter and her husband, my Orlando daughter, her husband and our 15 year old grandson spent Christmas week in this lovely property. Best equipped VRBO in our experience. Close to downtown restaurants and points of interest. You will enjoy your stay.
