As a celebration of our last night in Kandy and penultimate night in Sri Lanka, we dressed in typical Sri Lankan attire (saree / sarong). The buffet was tasty, although when asked for pork steak some were given fish steak. The hoppers were delicious as were a lot of the desserts. Drinks were pricy.

We stayed here for one night and enjoyed the grandeur that this hotel has although it is showing its s age. Our room was quite comfortable and we enjoyed the historic photos as we walked along the corridors. The dining room is best appreciated by viewing from the floor above - quite an impressive sight. Our buffet dinner was delicious - probably too much to choose from. Could have done without the live music as it made it hard to have a conversation.

We last stayed here in 2004 (just after the Tsunami). It remains a most pleasant retreat from the bustle of Kandy yet is still just an ten minute stroll along the lakeside to the centre. Staff are most friendly and attentive. The lawns at breakfast, by the bar and at the pool are great for relaxing and refreshing. We'll be back sometime!

When one has little choice at the time we traveled we take what's best. An additional plus point here was that they did have a full sized snooker table. It also overlooks the picturesque Kandy Lake. We were greated warmly shown a more than adequate room and far more importantly the staff and welcome we received was warm and nice. Unfortunately the age of the hotel was showing in subtle ways but even that can be nice.

Our room was fine, the staff was very accommodating to our large family needs. The breakfast buffet was very good - one of the best we had had in Sri Lanka. We also had dinner and it was wonderful. Lots of grilled meat and seafood while you wait. The bar is spectacular with its colonial architecture.

The worst thing about our room was the very old shower system which was horrible to operate. It had obviously never been upgraded and to have a shower you had to step into the bath which was slippery and somewhat dangerous, it needed a non-slip mat.

Nice Hotel, walking distance to the town centre. Rooms are OK. Colonial and not all up-to-date anymore. But beautiful dining/breakfast area. Nice garden next to the dining and bar area. Rooms over all floors, some wiht amazing views. Needs a paintjob on the exteriour. Inside all is very clean, with a lot of furnish-wax. Not in a noicy area. Pool and poolside garden is next to the road, so a bit more noice. Perfect service, very friendly. The Breakfast buffet is perfect. We thought the diner was to expensive, so we went into town. Which is about a 10 minute walk (be aware of the bats).

Stayed here for 2 nights during our recent tour of Sri Lanka. Very old colonial style property, which I gather in days gone by was the Kandy HQ of the British Army. The hotel has a lot of charm, but is quite dated, with lots of dark wood and colonial style decor. We were allocated a room on the same floor as the Dining Room, which is a grand old place with a very high ceiling and a sort of Minstrel Gallery running all round. I established from the staff, that many years ago this was an old storage facility. The meals were served buffet style, and we found many of the staff were Trainees, with still a lot to learn. Forever chasing after spoons, condiments, etc. The food itself was well presented, usual Sri Lankan fare, with a number of outside "Action Stations" There was a comfortable bar/lounge outside the dining room, where you could get a bite to eat for lunch, if you didn't want to use the restaurant. During the evening, there was entertainment from solo artists in the lounge. The first night the singer was excellent;the second dreadful. Our room was comfortable, but very old fashioned, narrow bath in the bathroom, with the dreaded plastic curtains that clung to you when having a shower. Bathrooms really need updating. Pleasant gardens, with a very cold pool. Considering there were over 80 rooms in the hotel, to find only 14 beds and a couple of chairs around the pool was disgraceful. Most of the beds, were only fit for the scrap heap, as were the chairs and tables. Sad, because the gardens were lovely and well kept and a nice haven, away from the city noise. The hotel is situated on the opposite side of Kandy Lake to the main town centre and its main attraction, the Temple of the Tooth. Took a good 30 mins walk to get to the other side, but still an OK spot. Overall we found the staff very welcoming, with special mentions to a couple of ladies on Reception Akalanka and Ashanthi. Enjoyed watching a traditional Sri Lankan Wedding in the restaurant, the morning we left. Very clourful with Sri lankan dancers and drummers. Overall a decent stay, but management to to spend some money, to make life more comfortable for guests, especially in the pool area.

Nice hotel, decent rooms. Could do with a bit of a refurb but wasn’t much of an issue as everything was very clean. Loved the colonial vibe. Food was ok, buffet only as it seems to be a hotel with lots of groups staying 1 night only. Service overall good, but special mention to the reception ladies who were very good!

Our room had a lovely verandah looking towards the lake. The hotel is beautiful, with an old-fashioned grandeur. The food seemed very good (though we were feeling delicate – they were happy to to make us plain steamed rice and potatoes, with some grilled fish).
