We had booked the resort and spa few months ahead of time. I was contacted by a Hotel representative in regards to the Restaurants being closed during the time we were headed out there for the long weekend - We got upgraded up to a Cottage! We loved it, so peaceful and quiet. The cottage was warm and cozy because of the fireplace. Plus has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms & a kitchen. We stayed for 2 nights. We also went for a hike - recommended for those who love hikes! and a good workout. The closest grocery store is about 15km away, so make sure you grab what you need before coming all the way to the Resort! Definitely very relaxed :)
The website makes this place look better than it is. I booked a cottage with king bed,hot tub and ocean view. Arrived to find my view was of the next suites’ roof and a postcard shot of the water (suite 8). Asked to be moved to another suite, which was a big hassle (suite 2). Once settled in our 3 bedroom king suite with hot tub, the views were amazing and the hot tub was the perfect size. Spa was great too (hot stone massage!!). Was quite surprised to find on arrival that the cafe and Aurora restaurant were already closed for the season. In the last week of September? Lucky for us Sirens pub was open for the week we were there. Food was very good and staff friendly. Housekeeping was mediocre Wouldn’t go again as the overall experience was underwhelming. I’ve paid less money and received better service and amenities at real resorts. To sum up in one word....Meh
What a beauty of a spot !! Great food, nice spa experience and a nice little pool to hang out in the sun. We headed over from Sidney for a night, and had a blast .. we went with friends who have a boat, and it was a great window into how great the west coast can be with access to the water. Once we got there we found our bungalow, and settled in for a relaxing evening with beverages and games. It would have been nice to stay longer !!
When I read one of the previous reviews I could not believe what was written. I can now say I agree with most of what he said. We were disappointed in many ways. We were not told when booking, that food service had been cut back to one location. The lounge was the only food service available. Dining room was closed. We were also not told that the spa had cut back on services offered. That was disappointing since we were staying for 4 days and I planned on using the spa. Our room was not cleaned well at all. A hair elastic, which was not mine but from a previous client, stayed on the floor beside my bed for 3 days. I did not pick it up because I wanted to know if the cleaning staff would attend to it. They did not. The room was generally not clean. The bedsheets did not fit the bed so when I woke in the morning the sheet was pulled up off the mattress! A couch is in the room and against the wall which has a large window in it. One must step on the bed in order to open or close the blinds. I am of average height and I could not reach it. This location is really serene and lovely yet we had this experience. Not a good time to use Poets Cove as a destination when they are closing for the season.
We have stayed at Poet's Cove before when we had a two day 100 people wedding for one of our sons. This time we were going to return for a quiet getaway. However when we arrived there were some check in problems ( we had to move three times) and some room problems with our keys not working, not all toiletries were in place and the pillows were very lumpy. All which was a trifle upsetting. However we found the surroundings absolutely breathtaking and the staff in the restaurants and bar were excellent.. check out very proficient and friendly.
My wife and I chose this location as the setting for our wedding. The way the main lodge sits on the water and the upscale cabins sit above on the hill, it seems everyone gets a fantastic view of the ocean and the marina below. The grounds are well kept and well treed with cart and walking paths to get around. The hotel has 2 pools. The upper pool is more of an adult pool which is the smaller of the two. It has a hot tub next to it and is perched on the edge of the hill to make a nice setting for soaking in the sun or the tub. The lower pool is next to the ocean which make it also a lovely spot to lounge around and enjoy the scenery. The cabins have everything you could need to spend as long as you like with a full kitchen, dining table and a living area. Each has its own deck with a barbecue and most have hot tubs as well. The ensuite in the master bedroom is as nice as many would see in an upscale home but of course perhaps not as large. The hotel has tennis courts as well as use of kayaks, and paddle boards. It has a medium sized marina and also serves as a stopping point for boats entering Canada from the US. The hotel has a restaurant and pub both of which have different menu choices. While the food is good, the service is pitifully slow at the pub. You will likely read many other reviews which mention the same. We sat down to lunch right when they opened and were among the first to order and it still took 45 to 50 minutes before food arrived. Then 20-25 to get the bill. At least the day was lovely and we were with friends and relatives which made the wait bearable although my wife had to leave with her food in order to prepare for the wedding. They set us up with a great spot for our wedding on the patio in front of the hotel next to the water. Just inside is a hall that could easily hold 100 people or more for dining and dancing. Their service in support of the wedding was excellent and catered to our every request. We could not have wanted for anything else. I would likely return to this blissful spot perhaps for a wedding anniversary. But if I eat at the pub (not sure if the restaurant is faster) I will make sure I have plenty of time.
was looking forward to this. sadly stayed in room. nothing to do. not a spa person. no entertainment or place to buy snacks. ping pong table soaked. "store" closed at 5. very overpriced breakfast "buffet" that had nothing more than what one would get at a stay/fly hotel for free.
we first arrived at the resort, check in was very pleasant, however it all fell apart just shortly after this. front desk staff were very good to deal with, but after learning about some of the deals that are provided, and when asked about the stay for 4 and pay for 3, I was told we did not qualify?? restaurant service was great, however not many food options, understaffed in all areas, house keeping was absolutely terrible. I say a 4 star resort with 1 star service, and still think that is a little high. the resort has big potential, but in my opinion very mis-managed, staff need better training, as well as the managers. I have spent many nights in 5+ star resorts, and well Poets Cove has a long way to go before I give them that.
The quality of this very high priced resort has slipped considerably over the years. You will notice the decline in many small details. If you're renting a "view" cottage, make sure it's on the front row or your "view" will be the back of other cottages. Staff are perfectly friendly. No fault there. But the facility is tired and showing it.
Poets Cove is renowned for its great location and facilities and we were attracted by the fact that our family of six adults and one small boy could book one of the three-bedroom "cottages" for two nights to celebrate the upcoming birthday of the grandpa. After a pleasant twenty-minute drive from the ferry landing at Otter Bay, we enjoyed the incredible views over the Marina, the spacious outdoor terrace with bbq, the short walk down to the water and the comfortable beds. The younger set were able to rent kayaks and paddleboards to explore Bedwell Harbour, and the adult pool was steps away (there is also a kiddy pool). We checked out the Syrens "lounge" for a light lunch and a drink, but did not try the dining room, preferring to do a cookout on the terrace. There could have been a little more attention to detail in the cleaning and service requests, but these minor shortcomings were cancelled out by the friendly reception we received overall. A lovely experience and we would unreservedly recommend Poets Cove to anyone planning a visit to beautiful Pender Island.
