We had two nights in Sorrento in late August. Positano and Capri are so expensive that Sorrento was really used as a pause on the budget. But we really loved this city! The views to the Gulf of Naples in Sorrento are spectacular. Hotel Del Corso is in the centre of Sorrento. It's the perfect launching pad for day trips to Capri, or drives along the Amalfi Coast. We took a bus from Naples airport to 'Sorrento', and found that it dropped us around 3 minutes walk from the hotel. So for the ease of access and proximity to shops and restaurants, Hotel Del Corso is hard to beat. The staff were really kind, the breakfast was good (and free), and the views from the balcony on the top floor are spectacular. Rooms are fairly basic, and styling is a little mismatched, but all more than adequate. Would definitely recommend.
We visited Sorrento in September, 2017. This hotel is great - as long as you know what you're getting into: no frills room, amazing location and a continental European style breakfast buffet. Our room had AC, was very clean and had an ancient but working hair dryer. If you've stayed in small Italian BnBs before you know what to expect. The family who run Del Corso are very charming, friendly and helpful. I was especially impressed with their attention to security - room keys must be checked in and out upon leaving and re-entering the hotel. We came back very late one night after a wedding and were met by the concierge at the front-desk.
Do you want the the good or the bad news about this property? Let's start with the good. The hotel is family run and the family is very accommodating. There's a little feel of Faulty Towers about the whole show although better run. The location is excellent - in the heart of the Sorrento shopping area with close access to a range of restaurants and the markets. The is a wonderful verandah where you can people watch Sorrento. We had breakfast included with a pretty basic but sufficient buffet provided. And now for the bad. Our room would be luck to be a 2-star! The bed was uncomfortable, amenities were basic and the TV didn't work. So I gave it a 3 after weighing up the pros and cons.
We recently spent a week at this charming hotel run by a lovely extended family. I always seek hotels which are smallish.. have charm.. a verandah to enjoy breakfast on to start the day and are in a good location to explore the city at your doorstep. This wonderful hotel has all of these qualities and more. I would say the bedrooms are very plain and comfortable.. nothing fancy. It didn't matter as each day you began your day on the most lovely verandah overlooking a bustling street eating delicious food including amazing fresh daily baked cakes. We would spend sometimes nearly two hours just relaxing on this verandah, eating, watching the passing parade and planning our day!! Bliss!! Step out of the hotel and you are in the hub of everything so location is perfect!! The staff here are 'family' and so you get that feel which I love of a mixture of casual and professionalism. Any questions we had were answered with friendliness and efficiency. I would go back to this hotel any time.. in fact some times I drift back here in my dreams!! 😃
We wanted to stay somewhere central but that didn’t break the bank. The photos advertised on the website we booked through, and the reviews of the hotel, gave a biased view and was contrasting to our experience. The positives were the location, and the fact most of the staff were friendly, and this accounts for the 2 stars rating I have given the hotel. Unfortunately the list of negatives far outweighed the positives. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, and our room was directly opposite the back door of the kitchen. This meant that from 6am every morning we were woken by the sounds of clattering dishes and noisy chatter of the staff. Not ideal, especially when street noise had kept us awake until 3am! Breakfast was awful. The boiled eggs were cold, there was only one type of cheese and cured meat on offer, and both tasted cheap and plastic, there was only one croissant left when we arrived to the terrace so we had to share, the coffee was terrible and there was no water or juice left and the jugs were not replenished. We also had to clear the tables ourselves once we had finished! Not something you expect from anywhere quite frankly. This isn’t a 3 star hotel, it’s very basic, and almost hostel-like. If could give a bit of advice to future travellers it would be to book slightly further from the centre as you get more for your money and aren’t disturbed by late night noise.
This is a family run hotel above the main street in Sorrento. The hotel might be a bit dated but it is perfectly clean. The common areas are stacked with reading books, area guides, pictures of the owners family etc etc making it a very relaxing and welcoming space. The breakfast offering is fresh fresh fresh, plenty choice and the croissants beat anything we got anywhere else on our trip. Breakfast can be eaten on a roof terrace if you prefer complete with the family budgie for company. We were given a code for the WIFI which was free, we were given information on ferries etc for our trip to Capri. This hotel was the best value on our trip given its location and we would not hesitate to recommend it to fellow travellers.
Hotel des Corso stayed for 6 nights. All the staff including cleaning of rooms were excellent. Thank you to Angelo and Filippo for their service. Always friendly and with a smile. Rooms are quiet, beds super comfortable. See you next time.
This small hotel is located on a very convenient main street, close to everything in Sorrento. The main lobby is on the second floor, so be prepared to walk up stairs if you have luggage. There is an elevator, but it is very, very small. The room that we had was quite large, with a nice bathroom and shower. It overlooked the main street, but was not noisy or a problem at all. The rooms were clean and the hotel was very well kept. The only issue I had was that there was almost nothing left for breakfast towards the end of the allotted time frame. I wish they had refilled or brought more food out.
Hotel del Corso is in a Really good location in the centre near the square close to all amenity. The rooms were Big/clean has Air con and TV. The family that run the hotel were very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Good continental breakfast. What more could you ask for for the price.
My family and I stayed here for 3 nights for a trip to amalfi coast. The location is great but the rooms need some improvement. Doesn't feel like a 3 star hotel. The room facilities are really old, the bath was super tiny and you cant barely move. It could use needed improvement. The staff is not the most friendly. They don't refill the breakfast coffee or pastries (we had breakfast at 8:30 and the coffee had finished and they wouldn't refill it). Wifi is an extra charge and it wasn't working one morning. Really expensive for what it offers, wouldn't stay there again. Only good thing was the location.
