Good location. No hot water pressure
Great staff and manager many shops 1 block away
This is a fine hotel down near the downtown waterfront, close to bars, the Alaska SeaLife Center — all within walking distance. The main harbor, glacier cruises and fishing charters are about a mile or so away, but Seward’s downtown amenities are close at hand. Rooms are quiet; blackout curtains are good, decor and artwork is historical and fun. No complaints whatsoever!
The property is historic and should be better maintained. It’s very musty and dusty in the rooms. The staff basically didn’t engage with us. Not explicitly rude but not welcoming. The restaurant no longer serves breakfast.
I made my reservations a week in advance. When I checked in I got a much smaller room than I was promised with two single beds, no bathroom and a sink that the hot water didn't work in. The bed was like sleeping on a rock and I could hear every noise up and down the hall. The staff was friendly and warm as a consolation.
Overall the property was very nice, clean and the staff was very helpful. We had made a mistake ourselves on a booking issue, and they helped us work thru this during an extremely busy weekend. Very patient and helpful
not good
Free shuttle from train station to hotel.
Family owned historic building. Very friendly owner and staff. Short walk to Sea life center and historic downtown for dinning and shopping. If you are traveling there, I'd recommend taking the Alaska Railroad. Stunning trip through the mountains from Anchorage. A Resurrection Bay tour and charter fishing are all worth the expense.
Great staff. Helpful. Good value.
They were so super friendly, amazing beautiful property. Vintage feeling but amazing comfort. I would highly recommend Seward Hotel and I will be returning back here often.. the ocean is so close you can hear the seagulls. Love it!!
The property is in a prime location, which explains the ridiculous per night charge. The "historical" wing has shoddy rooms that share (thankfully) remodeled bathroom/shower facilities. In our room, the twin beds had threadbare throws. The walls hadn't been washed for who knows how long. Long gouges and scrapes marred the paint in several places. The rectangular fluorescent light fixture, the type usually found in garages, was glaring overhead, the non-working TV was so old it had a built-in VHS/DVD, and the outlets and light switches were yellowing with age. A portrait of John Wayne watched over us as we slept. I still can't fathom how that made it into a room in an Alaskan "historical " wing. However, despite the run-down appearance of this particular section of the hotel, the staff was exceptionally nice.
Staff was very accommodating, even held luggage during our day of checkout. The shuttle was hassle-free getting us to and from the train station and harbor.
Since we had a room in which we needed to share a bathroom, having robes in our room that we could use to go down the hall to use the showers and rest rooms would have been appreciated.
The New Seward Hotel has 2 sides- old and new. I didn't see the new side but in the old side where I stayed there were 2 twin beds a sink, TV, coat rack and side table. Pretty cozy. The bathrooms, of which there are 2, are shared with the other rooms on the floor. Each has a toilet, sink, and shower. This part was a bit strange but worked. Checking was easy and staff were friendly. Parking was available next to the hotel. Onsite they had a bar/restaurant and conference room. The decor was history of Seward and a lot of animal mounts. Very close to Sealife Center and other shops and food. Price was biggest sell since it was less than half others were charging but I guess that was the extra price for a private bathroom.
Good visit. Very nice town. Room was a little on the warm side, but ok.
Stayed here one night with a group of 4. Check in was smooth and easy. Room was clean and neat, although a bit old in style. But that fits with the rest of the hotels theme. Shower had awesome water pressure. Coffee available in the morning, and an easy checkout. We even had a nice meal at the restaurant for dinner. Overall, a good deal, given the expenses of many of the places in Seward.
I would stay in this hotel again as it is one of the better places in Seward. My issue with this and other older hotels is that you can hear ever footstep bump and loud conversation because of the older wood construction. Also it is not air conditioned which on some hot days in summer you need to leave the windows open and use a fan. The outside noise of delivery trucks etc can be an issue. My problem was when some drunk tenants came in at 2:00am and didn't settle down for about an hour as they slammed their doors and chatted loudly. Not really the fault if the hotel just lousy neighbors. I'm not sure there is a better place to stay in Seward because last time we were down near the docks and it was not good at all.

I am sorry that the room you booked through a 3rd party was not the room in which you booked. you have to read the description closely, as we have several different styles, and prices are set with the accommodations. We are a historic building and the historic rooms from the 1900s are quite a bit smaller and most of the rooms in the lower price range do not have their own private baths in the room. I am sorry that the room you had, didn't have hot water. Will have maintenance take a look at it. I am glad that your encounters with the staff were good.
