We stayed two nights after a cruise and were delighted with large, very comfortable beds and cool air conditioning in the heat wave. Breakfast boasts 85 items, and all were top quality. Something here no matter which nationality you are. Staff, concierge were great, and spoke excellent English. Decor magnificent. Hallways, rooms VERY quiet. Jacuzzi tub on roof top with glass wall to city views - NICE! One very odd thing is the bath /shower with glass wall see through to the bedroom. This has a modesty curtain on room side but it is a foot shorter than the shower wall. Not suitable for some room mates! Also, tub was very high and had a stair step to get in and not enough hand rails - so NOT suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
Beautiful hotel in walking distance of so many things. checking in was easy super nice and helpful; Our room was on the Red Level the view from our room was beautiful. Rooms were clean, nice size, AC worked great, bed comfortable and bathroom was a good size. Breakfast was very nice included in our rate, many things to choose from fruits, cheeses, meats, cereals, breads and pastries. Had an area with eggs of different types . The red lounge was a great place to hang out in the afternoon after touring.
This was not my first choice for a hotel in Seville, but perhaps it should have been. The location was great, just enough outside the center to be quiet and spacious, but not too far. We got a room on the first floor with a huge terrace with a table for 4 and queen sized day bed. The room was well appointed, clean, great amenities, and just great overall. There was one issue, which can be resolved very easily. We were scheduled to go on a tour of Granada, and they were going to pick us up from the hotel around 7 am. We requested that breakfast be brought by 6, however, at about 6:15, with no one showing up, I opened the door to find that the card had not been taken from the night before. I had left it outside at around 11PM. All you need to do is make sure someone comes by every room when they say they will and this place will be perfect!
This is a great hotel. From the moment you walk into it, you are in a beautiful place. While you are registering they treat you in a fantastic eay, including a glass of cava. Your luggage istrated in an efficient maner and headed straight to your room. All the employees are very curteous and nice. The rooms are very good, plenty of space and very nice bathrooms. It´s very well located and there´s enough to aroun the area of the hotel. This is a most beautiful city, full of history and plenty to see . Don´t miss it.
Although the hotel seems removed from the cathedral and the Real Alcazar, it's less than a 15 minute walk there. We enjoyed getting to know another neighborhood, and it's only a block from a pedestrian shopping zone. We had a room in the red level zone through our visa card, and were grateful for access to the lounge with cold drinks and snacks 24/7, full breakfast buffet in the morning (though not until 8 a.m.) and tapas and snacks enough for a lunch or early dinner in the afternoon. The lounge staff was very helpful, polite and eager to please. The concierge staff was also quite accommodating, and the front desk staff was efficient and friendly. We had a beautiful view of the cathedral, but the church just outside has a bell that tolls from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. The taxi to the airport costs a flat rate of 25 Euros.
This hotel was included with end of cruise extension. Upgraded to red level suite. Red level hospitality room well stocked and attended Impeccable in every aspect. Breakfast is fantastic. Right in old Seville. You cannot miss with this hotel. Highly recommend
We had a business meeting in Seville and stayed at the Gran Melia Colon. Excellent location with abundant shopping nearby. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and we discovered a little known secret: gluten free bread and muffins available. The room was very comfortable.
This is a beautiful hotel with a warm, helpful staff. First of all, let me correct something written here a while back. Yes, a taxi can come right to the door. You do not have to schlep your bags despite the narrow alley approach. And when there, the doorman carries all your luggage up the entrance staircase, also any parcels you come home with during your stay. Very comfortable. However, it is a longish walk from the Cathedral and definitely a cab ride to Alcazar,Maria Luisa Park and the Alphonse XIII hotel, where we had brunch, while waiting for the 3 PM room opening. We opted for the romantic suite and had a very comfortable king sized bed. Also a large soaking tub with candles--and rose petals, though they arrived after our use of the tub. Large room, many closets, double sinks. One special treat was the doors to our room--and to all the rooms. They have been covered with a reproduction of a classical painting by Seville artist! One consideration is that the tub is elevated and at least a foot or so from the edge of the surround, so you have to "scooch" over to get to the shower. You have to climb into the tub to turn on the shower and then stand there awaiting it to warm up. And when in the shower, there is absolutely nothing to hold onto, if balance is an issue. We had an issue with reservations--more of a problem with Orbitz than than the hotel. The online site identified a price we liked, we clicked, and to our horror, saw that it backed us up 4 months earlier than we wanted. The Gran Melia's reservation team straightened it out, though it took several days to get through to the right person. Meanwhile Orbitz kept insisting we wouldn't be refunded--but the Hotel was as good as their word. A lovely hotel, very quiet, elegant accommodations, fine breakfast, which was included with our room. Also, since I mentioned the distance from the tourist sites: there was ALWAYS a cab awaiting guests of the hotel right at the door. And the neighborhood was also pleasant for a tourist, restaurants, shops.
I returned to this hotel mostly out of loyalty, but was somewhat underwhelmed by the Redevel option for VIP guests. It is is rather overdone and just is not necessary. There should be other ways to treat VIP guests, such as serving free champagne, wine, and goodies in suites and rooms. Redlevel suites need electrical outlets, too. I am amazed that this has not crossed the minds of those in charge during construction or renovation. Also, don't forget that for a very hot city, the hotel has no swimming pool. On the positive side, the staff are a great asset. With their special greeting, they make you feel welcome into their special company. Housekeeping is excellent. After four stays in this hotel and after reviewing this hotel once before, I now understand why I feel the hotel doesn't live up to my expectations. Gran Melia Colon may be a five-star establishment, but it is, in essence, a boutique hotel, exquisitely designed to delight aesthetes and educate harried tourists in the Spanish art tradition. But it is not a full-service 5-star hotel in the classical tradition, with several dining options, entertainment, pool, etc.
Visited the Gran Meliá Colón with my wife and daughters and we had an incredible stay. We had a suite with adjoining room and it was spectacular. The size, design, modern decor and comfort was outstanding. The front desk and rest of the staff were welcoming and pleasant. The Red Level concierge service and lounge was fantastic - the breakfast made a nice start to our day and it was a nice place to return for a quick refueling after a long day in the Seville sun. As to location, it was near the shopping district and a short 10 minute walk to the cathedral and the Barrio de Santa Cruz. I would recommend a stay at this magnificent hotel.
