This was my second times at this resort. It hasn't changed since last visit. The resort room requires renovation. I noticed that mold developed in the shower area. Staffs need more training for foreigners as not too many server in the dinning room speaks English.
The location is beautiful - right on the beach, the garden landscaping fantastic (way better than - for instance - Hilton or Ritz Carlton next door). I hear what other reviewers say that the property is old, but the upkeeping is very good, so you won't notice (unless for the decor a bit out of touch). If one fault, there is lack of entertainment at night, and the staff could do a better job at enforcing the non-smoking policy (it is supposedly forbidden to smoke anywhere in the property but you see people happily puffing away regardless). Service is discreet and run like clockwork. Spotless. Highly recommended.

Frank from Marriott Café Clearly, the 3 staff are extremely well-trained to bring customer excellence to me and all the Marriott guests. I am very grateful to them for going the extra mile to make my stay in Sanya one of the best holidays. It definitely brings the best memories of my experience with Marriott. Frank ensured that the coconut is delivered to my room promptly. Diana was very thorough and efficient in handling my check in. Meanwhile, Billy explained clearly my taxi-booking to the airport. These 3 staff were friendly, efficient and energetic. They served me and the rest of the guests with sincerity. Always smiling and proud to be part of the Marriott group. Thank you very much.
First of all, this is a Chinese resort hotel. Do not expect the same experience as a resort in say Hawaii or the Caribbean, as China has its quirks. About 90% of the hotel guests were Chinese, with most of the remainder being Russian (the breakfast had Russian food, which was certainly interesting). Almost everyone comes here with small children and grandparents, and the only couples I saw were foreign. We saw many Chinese couples taking wedding photos, but didn't see any actual weddings taking place (wedding photos in China are not usually connected with the wedding ceremony). As this is China, there are men smoking EVERYWHERE. Signs may say not to smoke, but they are routinely ignored. People will smoke in the elevators and hallways, even though they are not supposed to. The housekeepers did not say anything when people would walk by with lit cigarettes in their hands in the hallways. The beach (which is public) was filled with men smoking and every other palapa in front of the hotel had someone puffing away. I do not fault the hotel for this in any way, as this is the norm in China, but it is something to be aware of if this could be an issue (I have a family member with asthma). On a similar note, guests were clearly doing what they wanted and ignoring the hotel. The central lawn was roped off where a lady was doing landscaping, and yet families were happily jumping over the rope and the landscaper was not stopping them. On several days, both weekdays and weekends, private companies had rented out space on the beach for what only can be described as team building exercises for 300-400 people (although much of that time involved everyone lined up in military formation with some guy lecturing them through a megaphone) for several hours in the afternoon and early evening. These group team building events are LOUD and EXTREMELY ANNOYING. They all involved men with megaphones and you can hear them loud and clear wherever you are in the hotel. To give the hotel credit, they did provide all rooms with notices a day in advance to let the hotel guests know about the group events, but without any ban on megaphones or noise levels, everyone is forced to listen to them loud and clear. And let me be clear, these events did not involve any loud music, only men with megaphones yelling constantly. I would suggest avoiding the pool during these events and leaving the hotel property altogether if possible. It is clear that the hotel makes a lot of money off these events, but some kind of noise limit would be appreciated. On a similar note, one night we heard very loud music around 9pm, but it turned out to be the show at the MGM Grand, two hotels away. Lastly, I do want to point out what differentiates the Marriott from the surrounding hotels. The Marriott Yalong Bay seemed to have the best landscaping and was certainly picturesque. That said, the Hilton next door had a far superior pool, complete with a salt water section. The Sheraton next door in the other direction had more shops (the Marriott had no shops) and a larger, more pretty building. The MGM Grand had more activities and events, including a larger kid's play area and a surfing simulator, while the Ritz Carlton was more...ritzy. There really isn't anything stopping you from walking to a neighboring hotel and using their pool or facilities, so where one stays is not a big deal, but it may be worth doing your homework before choosing a property in Yalong Bay.
Resort is very elegant and clean. Services and features are of high level and desk staff welcomed me in a very kind and friendly way. Room was very spacious, clean and beautifully located. Restaurant Cafè where breakfast was served was very convenient to reach,nice environment,food was excellent and choice very wide. Resort is located about 5 minutes by taxi from a major nightlife block/district where restaurants are available.
We check into the Marriott Yalong after spending 2 nites at the Mangrove resort in Sanya Town and 2 nites at the Marina hotel. Our Favourite is the Marriott. Upon our check in, we 'finally' see SMILES on the faces at the reception. Smiles from service staff are very rare in China and I really dunno why. Well, we had a happy check in and bought some sort of cash value of RMB2000 credits and you get extra RMB400 which is quite a good value. We had 2 lovely rooms facing the garden and the rooms come with all the usual amendities befitting of a Marriott. Our first night, we decide to enjoy the BBQ at the fish bar fronting the sea. Ambience is lovely but you need to go early for your dinner. By the time we arrive at 7.30 or 8pm. Most of the BBQ meats are all finished so we are left with not much to order. So dinner was so so only 😔 We went upstairs to the lounge area for wine and ordered some light snacks. The whole area is rather quiet and the pianoist only sang till 10? Or 11? Anyway, my point is this hotel is meant to chill and relax and to just enjoy the tranquility. If you prefer pubs and live music, you are better off staying in the town area. Bcoz from the town centre to Yalong is about 40mins drive so it is not that near. The 2 morning breakfasts were the best we had in all our 8 nights spend on Hainan island. Our last night we had our dinner at the Japanese restaurant and it was very good with yes, very good smiling service staffs. YAY. We hired a taxi to bring us to the outlet mall to finish all our RMB and on our last day, we took the airport shuttle coach to Sanya airport. RMB25 per person. Overall, Sanya is a surprisingly enjoyable destination and we are blessed with lovely weather through out. Please find time to go Paradise Tropical Rainforest park and Binglanggu. We had all our tours arranged by Caddie from Sunny Sanya. She is a very efficient lady and speaks perfect English. Our driver is a local from Hainan and he is equally responsible and very helpful too. Thanks to all for some wonderful memories made in Sanya. Cheers ❤️❤️
The property was designed nicely. We enjoyed the grounds having plenty of space. This added to our relaxation. The lobby was open and airy, which was very inviting. The daily breakfast buffet was excellent. My compliments to the staff for such a wide variety. We did not try the evening buffet as we just were not hungry enough for a $60 buffet, even though it was massive, with “EVERYTHING” ! So we opted for pizza,which was delicious. The beach was beautiful and well maintained. Every single staff member I met was very nice and pleasant—from check-in, restaurant, housekeeping, etc. My only negative comment: the property is due for a renovation. The carpet in the hallways and rooms is starting to need replacement. The funiture at the beach bar was ready replacement immediately. It had some tears in the upholstery. Not expected when you are sipping a $7 bottle of beer! The furnishings were not terrible; just not up to Marriott standards in the states. I would not hesitate to go even now before these needed changes, but I will rate even higher after the update.
Very nice hotel, great facilities and services. The food at the restaurant is not awesome, however there is a bar next to the beach with good sandwichs, burgers. The prices for mini bar and others are expensive.
Just transferred from Ritz-Carlton to this hotel, this Marriott is even better for both the hardware and the services! The hotel offers so much more than expected, exotic design in and out. The housekeeping put heavy effort in room arrangements which is all too lovely and inviting. Pay my highest salutations to Luke, Nana, Hogan, kimi,Mark, Della for their dedicated services and arrangements, plus our housekeeper, really amazing. The Japanese restaurant is said to be the only one of its kind in the area, with good quality and sound tastes you can have a try if you are tired of the BBQs. The beach is much wider and popular than other hotels' and it has set an safe zone just in front of the hotel for sea swimming which is very convenient. While the only drawback is that the lobby is of open air which made the checkin/out time miserable if the whether is hot, I think they should set an air conditioning room for the front desk area.
Apart from the beautiful private beach, things I love about the place is that there's restaurant and a small supermarket right by the exit of the resort (less than 5 min walk from lobby). But the best thing about the place is the service provided, the front desk was friendly, English speaking (Chinese English speaking but I appreciate the professional attitude of using a language that the guest is more comfortable), friendly house keeping staff and the best concierge service. The concierge (johnny) not only helped me to arrange for my local tours during my stay, he even remember when I need to check out and gets me taxi to airport before even I left my room and have the chance to ask for his service.
