Fantastic hotel. 5 pools , complex very clean and well maintained. Large and full but never felt busy. Never had any issue getting sun beds and i went out at juat after 8 and rarely many more than a dozen beds already reserved. I love that time of the morning so pretty much had the pool to myself. Plenty of sun beds still available at 11!! Breakfast fabulous, lots of choice ,hot or cold. We had a superior room for 3 of us and was a good size. Cleaned everyday. Pool bar good for lunch but we ate out every evening in Fira. Walk to town just 5 to 10 mins. Yes the road can be busy but there is a path all the way to town after crossing road. View over caldera amazing from front of hotel and you can see the sea from tbe otherside of hotel. Staff superb nothing too much trouble. Excellent location.
We stayed here for 4 nights and absolutely loved this hotel. The room was spacious and clean, all the staff were friendly, especially Dimitria the concierge she was so helpful. It's a 5 minute walk to the shops and restaurants.
We were a group of 22 (10 adults and 12 teens) on vacation together. We stayed at El Greco for one week after a week on a cruise ship. The resort was perfect for us - beautifully decorated, clean, conveniently located so that we could easily walk to town but also self-contained as a resort such that one could stay onsite for the day. I was a little worried before arriving after reading some of the reviews but I must say that i really don't understand the complaints. The food at breakfast was very good and there was enough diversity for anyone's taste. It's a big resort but nothing close to the size of some of the resorts in the Carribean's or Disney's. It was actually perfect in my view. I went to see the hotel we had considered as an alternative when we booked El Greco - the Aressana Hotel and Resort - and i was ultimately very pleased with our choice. Aressana was small and the pool area looked crammed. The higher price for the proximity to town was completely overrated. Finally, the staff at El Greco was very nice and, in fact, the biggest (pleasant) surprise at El Greco was the concierge - Dimitra. She was truly amazing. All of her recommendations were perfect and she always managed to get us the best seats in the restaurants (which is no small feat when you are dealing with a group of 22!). i am never usually on a first name basis with a hotel concierge :) but she was so nice and so helpful that one couldn't help getting to know her and rely on her. The only complaint that i had read that I consider legitimate is the point that the road to walk to town is very busy and one must be careful walking by the side of the road. We had a great time at El Greco and i would recommend the resort to anyone heading to Santorini.
The room itself was very nice and the hotel has 4 pools. Breakfast is nothing special but is adequate and has the essentials. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is also very convenient. It's barely a 10 minute walk in to Fira and the bus station in town. My only gripe was our room situation. The room was separated with the room behind us by a door and because of this I was woken up each morning by the loud Mandarin being spoken by the guests in the other room. I don't know if all the rooms were separated this way but it was pretty annoying at times to say the least.
Very attentive and polite personnel Good service and care Addressed an issue about our room within couple of days (- some rooms have really old bathrooms, ask in advance to be put into refurbished rooms) Breakfast is ok, not great and biscuits and juices are tasteless Nice pools (5 of them) Limited parasol on the sun beds (many beds without a shade on top) Spa was fantastic, both personnel and the packages Location is good, walking distance from Fira and still not in the busy area of Fira No kettle in the room
The hotel is in a great location and it is beautiful. The people are very nice. Although they really need to work on keeping it clean. Our room had little ants, complained and yes they to care of it. The daily cleaning service needs improvement. They didn't have little care packs in the bathroom like most hotels. Breakfast was never ready on time. The floor was really dirty around the eating area. I don't complain about hotels but I really feel they need to improve on those things because it really is a wonderful resort to stay at. Cannot wait to return. The staff at the hotel go out of their way to help and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The amazing concierge, Dimitra, was so knowledgable and forthcoming with recommendations from restaurants, (try Strogili in Oia) and car hire, where to shop and shuttles to and from the port, to name but a few. We really appreciated her friendliness and attention to our needs. The front desk staff are also incredible. The rooms themselves are lovely. Extremely clean and fresh. Comfortable beds and perfect air conditioning. The pools, and there are many, with each set of rooms located around the pools, are great. We loved the peacefulness of the resort. We cannot wait to return soon with our three children. It is perfect for them also.thank you so much to everyone who made our stay so easy and memorable. It really does make a difference when one travels to a foreign country.
On arrival didn't find the staff particularly friendly perhaps due to the size and amount of people they deal with on a daily basis. Yes the walk into town is 10 minutes but if you are staying at one of the lower end budget rooms you take 10 minutes to walk through the establishment to the front of the hotel. We were taken to our room via buggy - or rather dropped and pointed to stairs to access our room - maybe a little more assistance might have been good customer service. The rooms were big and okay but I thought quite outdated. We were allocated this hotel as part of our Sun Tours package which was nominated as 4 stars - definitely not our room. The door didn't shut properly and I wondered about the security been stuck down the back of the establishment. However there was a safe in the room that was accessible. Breakfast was okay told it started at 7.00am but when my husband went to get some hot breakfast he was told rather abruptly it was not available until 7.30. Never did we get asked to provide our room number either. Wouldn't rate it highly. The pool area was quite lovely as you had many pools to choose from. Unfortunately we struck excessively hot weather in our 3 nights stay so didn't use to the fullest. Would I recommend not sure what we actually paid for this component of our package but I am sure that there would be other establishments smaller in nature in the actual town that would probably offer a better option.
We stayed at El Greco Resort Hotel for four nights recently and enjoyed our stay. We were sceptical after reading recent reviews, but during our stay we only once suffered a group of idiots swimming at 2am and waking most of the hotel. The staff at reception, the breakfast room, the pool bar and the cleaning staff were all friendly and most helpful. A special mention to the cleaning staff who work very hard to clean all those rooms to an exceptionally high standard every day - they do a fantastic job. We had a suite which for two of us provided plenty of extra room, with a sitting area. We were also situated upstairs so we didn't have people walking passed our door every 5minutes, which was nice. There was also a table, chairs and a couch outside on our balcony, which was quite private. As for swimming pols, there are plenty to choose from. We tendered to stay away from the large pool in the middle and found one tucked away in a corner which was only frequented by a quiet few. There were alot of "sun bed hogs" every day which was unfortunate - I thinks its a european thing - not good at sharing! We had an extensive view from our room which was magnificent at sunrise. As for sunset, it is best to walk across the road for an uninterrupted view across the caldera to the amazing sunset. If you want a room that faces the sunset, you will be very close to a very busy main road which has alot of noisey buses, motor bikes, trucks etc - so keep that in mind. The township of Fira is less than 10 minutes walk away - some of it has a footpath and other parts dont - you just need to watch where you walk and keep an eye out for cars, buses etc. other than that, it is an easy walk for able walkers. There is a small supermarket also close to the hotel - maybe 5 or 6 minutes away. There you can buy your bottled water, coke etc and some other supplies. Water was ridiculously cheap (about €2 for 5 x 1.5 litre bottles) and coke was about €3 for 6 cans. All bedding and towels were clean and of reasonable quality. Beds were quite hard, more than firm. One point to keep in mind is if you are a user of facecloth / face washer / flannel, remember to take your own. Greek hotels don't seem to supply these - just a small point.
My husband and I and 18 family and friends stayed here in July for our wedding. From the second we arrived we were treated like royalty and nothing was too much trouble. We had previously visited in October to see the hotel and wedding venue etc and they remembered us. As requested we were given the most beautiful suite and were taken there in the golf buggy. Nothing was too much trouble every staff member made our stay and our guests stays beyond amazing. From Gabriel ensuring me and my friend who are both coeliac (gluten free) that we had a freshly cooked meal every lunch and evening to Dimitra helping us arrange activities and booking our honeymoon dinner for us securing the best table, to the lovely team in reception Helena,Yiota etc booking taxis, arranging my wedding dress to be steamed to the lovely cleaner who ensured our rooms were spotless everyday to the bar staff making us smile everyday and lots more...we cannot thank them enough. On the wedding day we were looked after with breakfast sent to the room and a bottle of prosecco to help us celebrate. The day after fruit and wine were sent in congratulations. We couldn't recommend El Greco enough. If you are looking for a beautiful hotel with the friendliest staff then look no further. We will definitely be back. Hannah & James Bassett xx
