Just the cutest little place right in the heart of town. Simply lovely. Welcome was awesome. Hotel facilities brilliant. Views amazing. Love it . Can't wait to explore this town of Oia. Pool is just great. GONE TO HEAVEN!!
We stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed the experience The hotel is very well located, a minute's walk up to view the caldera and five minutes down to the station for the local bus. The hotel has a terrace to view the sunset and we watched it one night from there. It's not as good as from the castle, but you do avoid the crowds. Our room was very large and comfortable, the service by the staff was excellent, and the breakfast was good, but the best part was the beautiful pool. In the afternoon when Oia is jammed with hordes of people from the cruise boats, this tranquil oasis is a great spot to relax and get away from it all. While OIa is jammed in the afternoon, it is beautiful to walk around in the early morning and after the sunset when the cruise people have left. It's a bit like Venice, with narrow streets and paths, lined wth buildings and free of vehicles. We also stayed a couple of nights in Fira. Fira is more centrally located and only requires one local bus to get to the port, Akrotira, the wineries, the beaches, etc. The sunsets are also very good, and there are no vehicles in the upper portion near the caldera. There, however, is a lot of noisy traffic (buses, ATVs, motorcycles, etc.) in the area below.
This was to be one of those 'trips of a lifetime' that come up occasionally (!) - four days to see the sunsets of Oia, Santorini. Ignoring the vastly over-priced shuttles and taxis we spent 4 euros on the two local buses required to get from the port to Oia, quite a strap-hanging experience unless you get to the bus stops early! Arriving sardine-like in the narrow streets of Oia, we walked the few yards to the Aethrio, turning in through the main gate into an oasis of tranquility. The hotel is expansive, centrally located and maintained to an immaculate standard; the owner welcomed us with great charm and a complimentary drink, showing us to our more than adequate accommodation with its own private courtyard. First impressions were borne out by the quality of the suite: thick walls and high ceilings gave an atmosphere of both cool and space; the living area was large with a separate bedroom where the (included) air-conditioning was positioned. The kitchen and bathroom were, as mentioned by others, fairly basic, but in no way inadequate. When one considers the prices charged elsewhere in Oia, this hotel represents superb value for money, without sacrificing the atmosphere which visitors to Oia are seeking. We sought the sunset views away from the hotel among the crowds, but found that the sunset terrace back at the Aethrio was just as good, but virtually deserted. The 6 euro half-litre carafe of local wine and glasses in hand, we made this spot our perfect start to each evening, before heading off into the crowds to the designer shops and exquisite evening caldera views so close by. The included breakfast was taken above the superbly positioned (and quite warm!) swimming pool: we found this excellent both in quantity and quality, and saved lots of money by forgoing lunch (but remember to bring credit cards for even the cheapest Oian restaurants!). In summary this was a perfect experience and we recommend the Aethrio without reservation.
From the moment we were picked up from the taxi, my wife and I were treated to excellent customer service. We can't emphasise enough how polite, courteous and professional the staff are. We stayed in a lovely room which had a large patio area outside which was fantastic. The breakfast was lovely with a decent selection of dishes available. The pool area was also great and they also have a sunset terrace which was amazing. Everyone wants to see the sunset in Oia and therefore most places get very crowded. Therefore, we watched the sunset from the hotel sunset terrace which was peaceful and the view uninterrupted. The location of the hotel is also brilliant. Walk out the hotel and you're onto the pretty streets of Oia. It's also close to the bus station which is handy. Thanks again to all the staff at the hotel. We highly recommend staying at the Aethrio Hotel!
It was a pleasant experience The staff was very friendly, always available and helpful The breakfast was very good Nice rooms and very clean The pool was very chill and they have a sunset terrace where we watched one night the sunset and it was very nice from upstairs The location was great close to everything (the bus station, the shops, the main streets) Really recommended If I come back to Santorini, i will definitely come back to Aethrio Thank you for everything
We stayed here for three nights in May and our experience was amazing. We had reserved the taxi from the hotel itself from the ferry terminal to the hotel (we paid Euro 31). We had requested for early check-in and were given the same. We had a beautiful room (located in an isolated corner with a small patio outside). The room consisted of a bedroom, a passage where there is a refrigerator, a washroom and a small seating area where there is TV and sofa- we felt like in heaven as it was one of the biggest room which we experienced stay in Greece. The hotel seemed peaceful and not much of hustle bustle as compared to main street. Positives: 1) Spacious rooms and comfortable bed - just the bedroom seemed compact 2) A small bottle of Wine in the room 3) Central location - has three gates - one towards the bus stop, one to the main church and third to the street 4) Close to all shops and restaurants / cafes- we didn't have to bother walking a lot to reach the main areas 5) Our receptionist helped us with what all to do in four days and where/ which bus to take to Fira - go to bus terminal in Oia 6) Pick all your souvenirs from the shop at the market at the Bus Stop (the prices were same or lesser than that of Fira or buy from the International airport (olives/ honey) were similarly priced) 7) The hotel has a sun terrace where we chilled and watched the sunset with our bottle of wine 8) The pool seemed great but it was cold when we visited- we didn't utilise the pool 9) Heater in the room to warm the place 10) Supermarkets closeby to get water/ snacks etc. 11) Has View of the famous blue domed church 12) Beautiful nook and corners for pictures -Instagram worthy for sure. 13) They have board games / puzzles to keep children occupied in the main room (where breakfast is served) - we chilled in that room for few hours post the check out and lunch and before taking the taxi to airport 14) Even if you checkin early / out, you can keep your luggage at the reception and hang around the area - we checked out, went for a leisurely lunch, came back- chilled some more in the family room and then left 15) They also have a porter service, a staff who picks your luggage from the taxi and gets to the hotel and same while going back (we paid him Euro 5 each way as he picked our luggage to the room) - its just convenient as a 5 -8 min walk where the taxi drops you. Negatives 1) The buffet breakfast was just average - would rather recommend don't take breakfast option and go to Café Melenio/ Café Meteor for breakfast with view or lok for other cafes around Oia 2) they don't have in-room delivery service - you can order things by the pool or when chilling in the main area 3) the bathroom is very average and doesn't give a great feel - seemed too basic for us. Would definitely recommend this place to couples and families planning to visit Oia- its beautiful, economical (compared to other hotels) and welcoming.
We stayed at the Aethrio for two nights in July and it was fantastic. Great location, especially if you want to enjoy the famous Santorini sunset. The rooms are super spacious and clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is just perfect to explore Oia.
We loved this hotel! It was perfectly located in the center of Oia, close to all the restaurants and shops, yet peaceful and quiet. We stayed in the triple room. The staff very super friendly, efficient and helpful. The rooftop deck and pool were the highlights for our family. Look no further than Aethrio hotel when planning your stay in Santorini.
I am so happy we booked this hotel. Located in the smack city center of Oia but in a quiet backstreet, this hotel has a beautiful Greek style. The swimming pool is a must for the hot summer days. The staff, in particular Georgia, is so friendly and welcoming and funny. We loved it! Breakfast is great with different options every day, they even packed lunch for our early departure. A must stay for a reasonable price!
My 2 daughters and I stayed in the Atherio in June. The weather was stifling as Santorini was experiencing a heat wave, over 37 degrees when we arrived. We had arranged a transfer from the airport through the hotel which we were very disappointed with. The guy who transferred us was exceptionally rude and became verbally aggressive to my daughter at one point. He left us stranded at the end of a hill which takes you to the hotel. We dragged our cases up the hill in sweltering heat after an 8 hour journey. I complained to the reception staff on my arrival. I was advised the transfer company used was not the regular one and we got an apology form the receptionist re same. We also got a lovely bottle of wine re compensation. Unfortunately when we got to our room there was no air con and as the reception closes at 9pm there was no one to contact. The next day we were advised we would have no air con as the service department was closed until Monday of the following week. We were leaving on Monday. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed with this and I expressed same to the receptionist. As a result we had sleepless nights. We were offered a change of room only to be advised it had been given to someone else while we were on a day trip which the hotel arranged for us! If it wasn't for these issues I would give the hotel a 5 star rating due to their location and facilities. The reception staff were very friendly and did try to accommodate us however at times we felt we were receiving lip service to our real issues. That said they did agree we had experienced unnecessary issues which should not have happened. Our shower also leaked out onto the main bathroom area. The fridge did not work properly so keeping water cool was also an issue. We had one of the top floor apartments which had the best view of the Caldera. Had everything else worked our experience of the Atherio would have been somewhat different. That said,The Atherio has something special about it and I will return and request a room where everything works!! Best wishes to all the staff!!!
